  1. i was told that the same people that make the eclipse and stunts tandem rigs bought/buying the company, so that parts will still be available. jaybird
  2. good luck, cant wait to see you back at the dz jaybird
  3. my first canopy (which i fly now) has been a crossfire 149. i am about 190 out the door. when i was ordering this canopy i borrowed several different canopies to try out, while downsizing at a comfortable pace. That is truely what it comes down too. what are you comfortable with in flying, and landing. i like the crossfire, it is very quick, and incredible surfs(without a hook turn, i dont do those). and the openings are great. try to demo some canopies as others have mentioned, that way you can get a feel for what you like in each and the size you are comfortable with. safe skies jaybird
  4. I fly a crossfire (highly eliptical) canopy. i am 190 out the door, and the canopy is a 149. although i do not stall the canopy, i do sometimes hop and pop at 12000+ and play with the controls. i have gone switching directions on the spins, and have not had a problem. i just start slow and watch to make sure im not creating a problem. this also allows me to get a little more canopy control practice. safe jumpin and blue skies jaybird
  5. Im not sure if he has any seminars coming up, but John LeBlanc(performance designs) gives an incredible lesson on landing high performance canopies, everything from approach, flare, to general flying of the zp squares/ellipticals. you might try to look at PD's website to see if there is anything there. blue skies jaybird
  6. i talked to my local retailer, and he said that it not so much as the company is going under, but has been sold to another company, the same company that makes the eclipse harness/container. so i would imagine that the line should carry on. here is the email i recieved. ------------------------------------------------------------ they were purchased by Bill Daze and now in addition to the Reflex manufacture the Stunts and Eclipse Harness container systems blue skies jaybird
  7. my brother introduced me to the sport, and we try to go skydiving together as much as possible. My mom worries a little about us jumping from planes, but has accepted the fact we both just love to fly. blue skies jaybird
  8. i have a jvc dvm-90 and am having a hard time finding an x-jacket so that i can mount it to my nvertigo x helmet. anyone have any ideas. i was told that they quit making this model jacket. or does anyone have one they would sell. thanks and blue skies jaybird
  9. I have a jvc dvm90. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get a bonehead or similar mounting bracket for it to attach it to an nvertigo-x helmet. I'm not quite ready to fly the camera yet, but would like to try to get the gear ready for when I am. thanks and blue skies jaybird
  10. It was great to have you out and introducing so many people to the sport. cant wait till you come back after your trip. look forward to doing some jumps. hopefully you will be able to jump the boogie. blue skies jaybird
  11. richmond hands down. there are 4 dropzones closer to my home, however, i drive to richmond every weekend because i am more comfortable with the instructors, the planes, and the safety. we have both tandem and aff, as well as static line. as cameramonkey said, we also have one of 2 parasim (virtual reality canopy training) in the country used my dropzones. it is also one of the largest areas to land in. check the web site or call if you have any more questions. WWW.aerodromeskysports.com 888-234-jump again, look me up when you get there, first beer is on me jaybird
  12. chasing a freebag may be a nice retrieval, however lets not forget that we have to land first. Last year, my brother had his first cutaway. Another skydiver caught the freebag in mid-air. however when he was about 30 feet from the ground he decided to drop it to the ground, which in the process he accidentaly let go of his brake toggle. he was unable to get a hold of it again, and crashed hard. he ended up with to compound breaks(through the skin) on each of his ankles. It was nice that he tried to get the bag so it would not be lost, but remember, safety first. jaybird
  13. I ordered a vector 3 micron for my first. although i dont have it yet. should be here this week!!! i have 89 jumps now, and have been jumping a 149 crossfire. my exit weight is about 190 although i have jumped with 10 lbs of lead a couple of times. this canopy has a lot of potential that i have yet to unlock. i fly it in conservativly considering the number of jumps i have. i will have to say that the glide plane and flare on this canopy are incredible. i have flown stiletto's, but this crossfire is awesome. the crossfire also is recommended at loadings between 1:1 to 2:1. so at 210 exit you would not be overloading it at all. keep in mind, this canopy is highly eliptical, not sure if you are looking for that or not. the openings are great, and basically on heading. i have not had a diving opening in my 30+ jumps on it. if nothing else, talk to your local s&ta, that is what i did. jaybird
  14. well i can always buy you a beer. after im done jumpin of course. jaybird
  15. Just have to say one thing. Love my new crossfire.
  16. More important than anything, I think that you have to be comfortable with what canopy you will fly, you are the one who has to land it afterall. I have recently purchaced my first canopy. A 149 icarus crossfire. i am about 170 lbs then add gear for an exit wieght around 185-190. I started of course with the manta 288, then worked my way down with rentals and demos till i found what i was comfortable with. I have read though that the same wing loadings at different size canopies will still react differently. As far as pack size, that is still a mystery to me.
