Got some sad news yesterday. . . . Doub Coombs, world famous ski/climbing guide, was killed in a skiing accident in La Grave, France. This is a trememdous loss to the skiing/climbing community. There is some cool info about Doug at Powder magazines website. I know Doug had done some skydiving in the past. I had the pleasure of doing steep skiing camp with him years ago. He was one of the good guys; he will be missed. J.P.

my .02 I think jump numbers and number of objects jumped is important. But also attitude of the instructor. There are certain people on this forum that are more than qualified to instruct, but they're also assholes and that could affect their ability to teach. ie. big egos getting in the way of common sense and teaching BASE to those who are qualified to learn. Part of being ready for BASE is being able to determine whose is a suitable instructor for you. In that regard it is as much the responsibility of the student to do their homework and decide for themself. I chose my FJC instructor because I was told by some trusted BASE friends that he an easy going guy with alot of experience off of a bunch of objects. Equally I was told he's a personable guy who has a genuine concern for the quality of his teaching method. My friends were right. Couldn't have had a better instructor. Cheers, J.P.

This is the "Tony had a baby" thread, not the "Abbie moved in w/ Cheri and Tom Aiello". -C. ----------------------------------------------------------- Ha ha ha ha! Classic.

Interesting viewpoint Avery. . . . . .fair enough. I respect that and agree with you in some ways. cheers, J.P.

yeah. . . . but then most likely that means logging on to a whole new site and new usernames and all that. it would be a little more convenient if we had one here. . . . . .what can I say? I'm a lazy piece of shit!!

yeah well the S in question was not legal. And yep I fully agree that it does increase the chances of jeopardizing the load for the obvious reasons. I'm pretty sure this jump was a late afternoon/very early evening jump too. Well thanks for the feedback. Personally I would never take any of my non jumper friends to watch. Period. Let me know if you would like the details on this one; I'd be happy to pm ya.

Quick question on ethics. . . . . A friend of mine who recently got into skydiving met some BASE jumpers at the local dropzone. They decided to take my friend along with them to "watch" their jumps from an S that is known for being hot. Keep in mind, my friend was there to watch not GC. My friend doesn't BASE and has no intention of getting into BASE. Although I don't have a problem with them taking a non-BASEer to simply watch, I wonder what the more experienced jumpers have to say on this. Is this considered acceptable? Cheers, J.P.

. . . .er maybe I'm having trouble understanding your question, but here goes. Most lineovers I've seen on video the canopy comes out asymmetrical from the get go. I don't know how old that segment of the video is, but if it was before the days of using tailgates maybe a canopy with a lineover could very briefly inflate to a symmetral shape with some kind of wierd surge, but I have a feeling the old timers around here would say that is next to impossible. Perhaps the loss pressure on that side of the canopy was due to broken lines??

Yep. Ground launching forum would be cool.

Matt, I've been reading all the threads about your situation and I feel for ya bro. I've never experienced anything like what you''re going through, but nevertheless my thoughts are with you. Although we've never met, Collin and some other friends tell me you're a good guy; I really look forward to jumpin' with ya when you get out of there man. Hang in there. J.P.

Doing a wall in the valley is much different than trying to fuck you right? I'll climb with anyone, regardless of age. I respect your athletic ability, but if any of this is true (which I sincerely hope is not the case), then that is just wrong Clair.

No fuckin way! Dude your sister messaged me on myspace and I couldn't believe that she was BASE jumping at her age!! And now I hear all this shit. Crazy. And Jimmy. . . . . .what a dick head. I would never even think of dating someone that young. I recently hooked up with a chick that was 19 and I felt like a total dirtbag. Hey you know what sweethart. . . .fuck em both! . . . . I know people are gonna sit here and tell you that she's young and confused, and that it's important for you to focus on your relationship with her, but I call bullshit on that. That is one of the most selfish things she could have done, and she should have thought of the pain and embarassment and depression this would undoutedly cause for you. Having been through a similar situation in my past, I feel for ya. . . . . J.P.

oooh. . . . . .cold water bad!! I'll take the snow thank you very much.

. . . . Snow at the exit point is not so bad; at least there's a place to keep your beer cold. J.P.

Beautiful. Damn Good post Collin. . . . . I have no reservations with approaching BASE very conservatively. I don't ever plan to go "hard" in BASE, and for that matter I don't ever want to be known as that person. But in my mind I think I will be the most worried after I have 50 jumps under my belt and am thinking I can handle things that I can't. That's where I hope my much more experienced BASE friends can help coach me through my decision making process. And believe me, I listen very carefully and heed everything you guys tell me. J.P.

Sounds like a good time. If it weren't for my low jump numbers and horrendously slow packing. . . . .I would gladly show up and kick all your asses! Especially Mr. Cornishe himself and that pushover Collin. And yeah yeah I know, I'm the guy with the sore knee blah blah blah. . . . .summer of 07' count me in Abbie. Cheers, J.P.

Just my .02 (and I'm certainly not experienced enough to draw from personal experience), . . . .but if colder air has greater density than warmer air, might that lead to greater snatch force and increased drag? . . . .Tom A. gave me a brief lecture on the dynamics of pilot chute inflation this weekend; this would have been a good question to inquire about. Cheers, J.P.

I have a friend who lives in SF that did a tandem yesterday and is now fired up on going through AFF. He lives on the Haight and would like to know which dropzone would be his best option for AFF. Also, can anyone tell me long of a drive it would be from downtown SF to Byron? Thanks, J.P. -
I've been in contact with a guy who's been before, and is looking to go again. I will PM you guys his contack info.
