High altitude records - no, not the "usual" question
vpozzoli replied to Orange1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Kittinger used a drogue to keep stable. Therefore his jump does not qualify as "free fall" and is not recognized by the FAI, or so I have heard. The record is for highest free fall, I guess the Russian did not use a drogue and qualified. Ciao. Vale -
Here you go http://sentech.manufacturer.globalsources.com/gsol/I/Breath-alcohol-tester/a/9000000066342.htm The "lock me out" part probably has to be custom made. Try pissing off enough people here and you'll find someone willing to do it for free! Ciao. Vale

Look out! Here comes an S! Oh no! There's another one! Duck! This message brought to you by the Society to Prevent Apostrophe Abuse. For the record, cats rock. He meant the musical, silly. Oh wait, he didn't.... Nevermind Vale

When I was about 3 I got a tonsillectomy. I actually have several memories from my hospital stay: - being on the operating table with a rubber mask being placed on my face - starting to pass out from the anestethic - waking up in pain in post-op - refusing to drink a glass of water no matter how much sugar they put in it (I think in the end it was more sugar than water

Yep, they are still quite popular this side of the pond. They differ in that water is heated in real time as it passes through the heater instead of having a fixed amount of water held at temperature in a storage tank. Main advantages are: - smaller size - do not use any power at all until you actually turn on the hot water faucet - you can leave the hot water tap on for as long as you like, traditional heaters lag behind after a while and water starts getting colder Downfalls: - more expensive - usually you get a lower flow of hot whater, but this is compensated by the fact that you can have as much hot water as you like, it will just take a bit longer to fill the tub Hope this helps. Ciao. Vale

Actually, it is. From a "survival of the species" point of view a female of the species should become sexually active as soon as she is fully developed (i.e. sexually). There is no advantage in wasting reproductive cycles waiting for further development. From a social standpoint it has become immoral or even illegal, but keep in mind that well into the 20th century it was "normal" or even expected for a girl to marry as soon as she reached puberty (around 15, I know the age is lower now because of better living conditions). Nowadays with dramatically increased life expectancy and reduced mortality it has become practical for a woman to marry as late has her 30s, this however changes nothing at the biological level. It is still "normal" to feel sexual attraction for a fully developed female, it is just not allowed by society to act upon this impulse any more. You cannot regulate biology. Ciao. Vale

If the bridle is too short (i.e. shorter than your burble) the PC will never get out of the burble and bounce back onto your back. If this is the case a longer bridle can fix this issue, provided the spring has enough strenght to launch it far enough. Ciao. Vale

The best: a full refund. The worst: a service period extension on a service that sucks thoroughly. Where's the compensation in making you suffer longer? ciao Vale

Not to mention possible criminal charges against those who pushed a disabled skydiver out of the plane instead of riding the plane down with him. Maybe that is why it hasn't been circulated much. Ciao. Vale

Are cults illegal is Germany? Don't think so. Probably don't get the same tax breaks a church does though. Personally, I think they should be classified as a scam and treated accordingly Vale

Scientology is much more clever than that. The way they operate you are not exposed to the more radical bullshit (i.e. Thetans and Xenu!) until you have been sucked into their Church. At the beginning you are only exposed to some pseudo-scientific rubbish that apparently lots of people want to believe in, and are willing to make generous "donations" to have access to (donations my ass!). And their racketeering tactics work really well too. Ciao. Vale

In the absence of crickets or other noisy insects you should look straight ahead instead of down to better judge your height. Looking down doesn't work that well even for people with depth perception (which you of course lack). That is what pilots do when landing an aircraft (I still remember my gliding instructor yelling at me when he caught me looking down instead of straight ahead during landing flare), of course it is easier when you are landing on a runway and have straight lines to help you judge convergence, but I found it works well even while landing a square in a grass field. My landings have improved a lot since then. You just have to fight the natural impulse to look straight down. Ciao. Vale

What do you mean exactly by "files that are recurring"? Vale

MEDICAL TESTS required in your country?
vpozzoli replied to skydiverek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In Italy, they do (require tests for a driver's license, that is). Just not that often (every 10 years till you're 60). Vale -
I've been in Europe for 35 years. Does that count? Ciao. Vale

Dontdatehimgirl.com --Scary on so many levels
vpozzoli replied to PRSKY71's topic in Speakers Corner
What's even funnier (in a sad way) is they have a "Privacy Policy" and allow posters to remain anonymous (while naming the alleged cheaters). Priceless!! Here is the clicky www.dontdatehimgirl.com Vale -
Ok I'll play. How about "spot"? Vale

MEDICAL TESTS required in your country?
vpozzoli replied to skydiverek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In Italy you have to have a medical, with no exemptions (well except tandem passengers, but those are just that, passengers). To be renewed every 2 years till you're forty, then every year. The tests should include heart, vision, hearing and general motory functions, for first time jumpers an EEG is required as well, I suppose to test for epilepsy or seizure disorders (that was actually the first and only EEG I ever took). I'm afraid Italy is a very bad example for what you have in mind, I suggest you look somewhere else Ciao. Vale Edited to add that all the above is required by law, and not by the local version of the USPA, since there is no such thing in Italy anyway. -
The doggie is named "Chris&Bryan"? Does he have a split personality? Vale
