All the little things about cameraflying...
johnsonjd1 replied to lewmonst's topic in Photography and Video
Things I learned this weekend. 1.) Mr. Murphy loves camera flyers as much as he likes the military. 2.) Check your camera gear after you have turned on your AAD, then wait 20 min and check it again. 3.) Carry a spare SD card in your suit pocket along with a lens rag and a spare set of goggles for the TI 4.) The camera bad luck gremlins will wait to strike when you have a full plane waiting on you, with another plane taxied and waiting behind it and then either crank your exposure setting up so high that it looks like you are filming in a blizzard or turn your auto focus back on. -
CX-150 w/Hype Eye and Pro Expansion Kit
johnsonjd1 replied to johnsonjd1's topic in Photography and Video
Anyone running a Sony CX-150 with the Hype Eye Pro Expansion kit to take digital stills while filming using a bite switch? I am using a GroPro Hero HD to take stills right now on the 1 second setting but unless you are on top of them (who you are filming) they seem far away due to the Wide angle lens. I figure this will double the amount of pics I can give to our video editor for the media the passenger is paying for. Any feddback? -
I ended up getting the CX-150 at best buy for 238.00. Too good of a deal to pass up.

I am looking at getting my first camcorder for flying video for tandem. I know that Sony is the prevelent choice in the business and JVC does not have the best reputation in the past. However, the last info I can find on people's experience with the JVC cameras is over 4 years old. But, has anyone had any experience with the JVC Everio Flash memory camcorders? It does not have a internal HDD and it records to a dual SD/SDHC card slot, so hopefully that will solve the problem I have been reading with JVC camcorders dying at altitude. GoPro records to SD cards pretty well. it also looks like it has a pretty good Advanced Image Stabilizer. Anyone got any current info and/or experience with the JVC Everio Flash memory Camcorder. Below is a link to the camera in question. http://camcorder.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028647&pathId=171&page=10

Got a BH Pimp Daddy as a gift to replace my old ProTec so I don't look like a student at the DZ anymore. I know the Pimp Daddy is not the "Ideal" camera platform, but it's what I got. I am getting the Cookie GoPro Swivel mount soon for my GoPro and eventually I want to mount a Sony CX110 on it as well. I liked the setup another flyer had at the DZ where he used the Sony for video and the GoPro for stills timed to every 2 seconds mounted infront and below the Sony. When I am going to add the Sony in the future I am going to upgrade the helmet with a better chinstrap, HYPEYE D Pro, and Sight of some type. What curved mount adapter would you suggest for mounting a Sony CX110 via a Goldmember or ZSkulls onto a Pimp Daddy. I am open to other suggestions for mounts. The camera will not be in a box or cage. Thanks.
