Sometimes i feel too much attention is given to the rights of the (foster)parents to have children and too little to the rights of the child to have a good quality of life. I know there are lots of conditions foster parents have to meet, but still - some people are unfit to have children, natural or adopted. Sort of office - I know these people but am only good friends with one of them. I am one of the volunteers that conducts childrens educational programs so it really shouldn't be 'creepy' or inappropriate in that regard either. Haven't been to a Halloween party in a very long time but I am helping a friend by making her a blind melon bee girl costume and decided maybe I should give this Halloween thing another try. It is everyone's personal decision and their own comfort level to decide what the right thing for them is - what they can live with, what they can't, what will or won't be on their conscience. I can't even describe how disturbed I was when I read the article, mostly with the demeanor of the attacker. I, too, have been on the shaft end of bystanders doing nothing and as much as it sucks, it is a personal decision and one many people don't think about until after the fact. For me personally, the consequences of being jailed, injured etc for doing what I believed was the right thing is so much less than that of doing nothing and knowing for the rest of my life I *could* have made a difference and didn't. Without being there, there is no way to know all the variables. People do survive multiple stab wounds just as some people don't survive one seemingly superficial one. That part of the equation is out of my hands. I was forced to defend my life while waiting on police who got lost responding to a 911 call. I got arrested. It sucked beyond belief. The charges were dropped, but even if I had gone to jail...given the exact same circumstances, I would do it the same. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Well in answer to your original question there are some locations where it can get lodged and only be detected on x-ray. No it won't dissolve. Sometimes they perforate the esophagus and enter the chest cavity causing all kinds of hell. (had a friend's lab that this happened to from a stick the neighbors were throwing for him to fetch). Fat cats that don't eat for several days can start having metabolic problems that can cause death. But like you said, maybe he can handle it with nothing.
