I was able to find a job one year aftrer I retired. They job lasted 4 months, then pfffft gone. Been looking for a job ever since. Applied all over, interviews out the ass, All has been fruitless. I have had two interviews in the last 11 days. Know no more now, than I did before I had them. "we'll call you and let you know." Phone hasn't rung. What do you do? no job, no money, in debt, can't jump, hope rapidly slipping away. 5. Believe it has allot to do with depth perception. I understand that you loose your depth perception at about 35 ft. Go higher, and you don't feel the height, this is why the surrealistic feeling at 14,500. Like being on a mountain top, you don't really feel the sensation of height. Nearer the ground, your perception of depth is greater, so your are more aware of the "height" and the natural fear of heights kicks in. This would seem to make sense. -------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule

    JOBS

I wish I could tell you I had a job, but I don't. With the exception of a 4 month period of time last year, when I had a job, that I got layed off from, I have been looking, without success, for a job for two years. Ever since I retired from the service. I've had two interviews in the last 11 days, and have no idea. Jobs out here are few and far between. Any openings that become available have 100 time the number of people applying for than there are jobs to be had. It's bad out here for those that are jobless. I see people complaining about the jobs they have. To them I will say one thing -- be glad that you have the job to complain about. There are many of us out here that would love to trade places with you, if you are so unhappy with your jobs, we would gladly have the jobs that you are complaining about. One other piece of advice, if you have a job, keep it. Don't quit. Your lucky you have it, if you quit, you might not find another one. Then, It will put you in the same boat with us.. wishing you could get hired, and seeing hope of that happening slipping farther and farther away from you with each passing day. -------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule
  15. I would have to say that mine started at a very young age. I grew up watching Television programs like "Twelve O'Clock High", "Sky King", "The Whirlybirds", "Combat" and a program called "Ripcord". These shows instilled three things into me that molded much of my life. One, that I wanted to serve in the military, two, that I wanted to fly airplanes, and three that I wanted to skydive! My childhood days were filed wioth imaginary ground battles, flying imaginary fighter planes and bombers and imaginary parachute jumping. "Ripcord" was a show about skydiving, they put out a six inch tall, plastic figure molded into the shape of a skydiver. It had a plastic parachute and you folded it up, threw it up into the air, and the jumper would come down "under canopy". I had dozens of them! Then onc day when I was probably around 7 years old, I got my hands on a beach umbrella and reasoned that i could jump off the house. Needless to say, it didn't work very well, but the thought was planted in my mind. Now, I look back on my life, to this point and find. I've one, served a career in the military, two, I am a pilot, and three I am a skydiver. So I guess the seeds that were planted by the shows that I watched as a child, took root, grew and brought forth fruit. Guess I accomplished all my goals. Now I have to wonder, is there anything left to do? -------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule

  17. The beer tradition is something I see as fun, nothing more, nothing less. Without traditions, events/things tend to not have the atmoshlere/fun that is normally associated with them. New events always are the start of new traditions. It's fun, it contributes to the social atmosphere of the sport. Yes, I like beer, but I know people that jump that don't, they hang around and socialize just as everyone else does. I know an AFF instructor at my DZ that doesn't drink at all, always soft frinks when everybody else is drinking beer, doesn't effect him, or the fun that he has. In fact, when I got my new jumpsuit, I was walking back after landing (he was on the same load with me), he walked up beside me and said, "Hey, that's a cool suit you got there. New?" I said yes, "First jump in it?" Yeah, I said. Then he laughed and said, "THAT would be a case of Beer!
