  1. Interesting. Is it really possible to completely sign away all legal rights in the USA? They could still get you for gross negligence here in the UK waiver or not.

  3. Yes but this one's got Chuck Norris in it so it must be a much better film
  4. Dude, I am sorry if you feel offended but in all seriousness this site has had reporters, lawyers and the like creating accounts then asking for information. Sometimes this is following an injury or fatality or for some sensationalist journalism. Obviously your private affairs are your private affairs but if you let posters on here know why you're asking then you're more likely to get a favourable response. Folks on here can be suspicious at times but things have happened in the past. So, give a little up and you may receive a lot in return
  5. Given the postings: 1) How quick to freefall. 2) What's neg G 3) How much money's in skydiving 4) How does a pilot get to the ground so quickly. Maybe a tandem got hurt in the plane (I know of turbulence injuring pax in airliners) or had a near miss and he's a lawyer who's trying to pin it on the pilot/DZ flying negligently in order to achieve fast turnaround times to make a bit of money? Any incidents out there anyone know of?
  6. Hey.. that's not fair! We have teeth. Just put in our mouth in the wrong order.
  7. I can't speak for US dropzones but the UK ones make money to run the DZ from tandems and the regulars jump at cost or maybe even a small loss. The jump ticket price might not be an indicator of the costs of running a plane or DZ.
  8. Humans can be scum. Here's Surabaya zoo in Indonesia: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/zoos-nightmare-conditions-exposed/story-fn6e1m7z-1226298771660 The keepers should live in conditions like this for a month...
  9. Solo jumping can be a bit uninteresting. If you've got low jump numbers then sometimes the CCI won't let you jump even though others do so you spend all day at the DZ only to get one jump in which can be frustrating too. The most fun jumps I've done is with others. Get on a 2 way or get some coaching. Jumps are also not much fun if you don't have any plan for it. I'm trying to get better at freeflying so when I'm not jumping with others I'm on my back looking at the sky or in stand and just working on getting better so when I do get on another 2 way or bigger jump I'm able to be in more control. so.. Get some jumps in with a coach then some experienced friends, figure out what you like doing and set some goals. It's a very expensive and risky way of being bored... Good luck
  10. Best thing is to ask the manufacturer. Not all canopies of the same size have the same pack volumes so if you have one specifically in mind then let them know. I found aerodyne very helpful and a very quick response. Mine could go a size smaller with no problems but their zpx material canopy of the same size would be too small and would give (to quote them) hard and radical openings as the canopy would not sit tightly in the container. HTH Adam.
  11. They do bite you occasionally. This seems to have been fixed with the sabre 2 apparently. If you can jump some rental/demo gear then that would help. Which is your home DZ?
  12. Spain is great, warm and sunny and super relaxed. The food is good and there's other stuff to do like climbing, via ferrata, great mountain biking and on the North coast, surfing. Empuriabrava's having a tunnel built. Don't expect big salaries though. P.S. Good luck!!!!

  14. I'd go with the advice from the manufacturer's recommendations however not all canopies of similar sq.ft are the same pack volume so if you could give sunrise a bit more info then they'll let you know what you can use. I've got a Wings (I love it!) and I've found them really helpful in the past. Ad.
  15. In 'g' terms (as in 2 g, 3 g), from what I've read, I don't think it makes much of a difference as the deceleration speed appears to be dependent on the mechanics of the canopy/container as it opens (any riggers able to shed any further light on this?). The speed of the jumper at the instant before deployment does make a difference though. However with regard to the force applied on your body. The heavier you are the higher the force (i.e. 1.5g on a 200lb mass is 300 lb force whereas 1.5 g on a 100lb mass is a 150 lb force).
  16. This DZ had recently opened and was putting 16 loads a day, mainly tandems. There were a few fun jumpers and students knocking around. Pretty easy to get on a load and find someone to jump with (I was from out of town). They have rental gear which is also in pretty good condition. They do lifts up to 18k and 24k with oxygen *however* it's 18k above MSL rather than AGL so we actually got just under 17k but still not bad for $32. You just need to be aware of this, that's all. Other than that, the vibe is good, it's very busy so the facilities were a little cramped but that just means business is good.
  17. I remember one CCI giving the speech to a guy who used the motorcycle excuse with something along the lines of: "If you find yourself in a situation on a bike then you can slow down and park up. This option is not available to you once you've exited the plane door"

    Sherlock

Yes.. They work with the text messaging really well and the way it appears on screen. A good reboot. Can't wait until series 3.

Yes. A Scandal in Belgravia was my favourite. Mmm.. Laura Pulver... drool. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.trueblood-online.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/larapulver.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.trueblood-online.com/category/cast-crew/lara-pulver/&h=689&w=491&sz=213&tbnid=Q0YH5Wi--tLXzM:&tbnh=97&tbnw=69&zoom=1&usg=__ZPA-NoMDvI_hqSrHl_trfFu7Hj8=&docid=Ls55s4tqOk_nWM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=HFkMUOa5J5L0rAGupPGcCg&ved=0CHQQ9QEwDw&dur=464 P.S. I really liked the way they played Moriarty as a proper nut job. Much better than the tedious professor in some of the other adaptations.
  20. It's used as a derogatory remark to signify individuals who perceive their skills as better than they actually are. Simply put, there's been too many people who have downsized too early and killed or seriously injured themselves. Believe it or not, derogatory remarks aside, no one want to see YOU hurt.
  21. I remember a story about Aston Martin in the early days. A friend of one of the owners if he could only pay the cost of the car without any mark up and was quoted a price that was higher than the sticker price. The implication being that the company was run at a loss by enthusiasts who were in business to make cars not money. Whenever I've bought gear I've always found customer service to be very good. No complaints here.
  22. A very good sense of humour I see..
  23. Massive discussion on it on here. Read it and weep: http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk/cms/index.php?/topic/19379-retention/
