Had my first ever cut away this past weekend
ffp1974 replied to regulator's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a veteran of three cutaways, I was always questioned when I was on the ground as to why I did what I did. The third cutaway was a major malfunction, so no one questioned me on that one. But the grilling you get from other jumpers, tend to make you questioned what you have done. Go with your training, if you don't think you can land it, then chop it. Don't ride a bad canopy to the ground, while you are wondering if you are doing the right thing, or what the other jumpers will say. FF -
oklay on my gps garmin legend. When I save the individual tracks, do I lose my timestamps?
-
Lou can you give detail instructions on how you set up the garmin. When you turn it on etc. How to make it record different jumps etc. I would like to work it out so I can jump with it this Sunday. Thanks FF

sounds good. will there be any other aircraft, besides the twin otter?
-
I think I can land somewhere other than s.c. Is there any dz on the east coast having anything special going on the last weekend in Aug?
-
To make a long story short, I have two plane tickets I have to use by the end of Aug. I am limited to the S.Carolina area. Where is there a place to jump, that will have something special going on, the last weekend in Aug? Would love to jump a baloon or helicopter. Thanks Francis

shoot with a higher shutter speed. In the old days with film and manual camers, that is what we did.

wow great information. Now I need to know how everyone is attaching the gps to themselves and by what means?
-
Thanks for all of the information. I have a gps and the paralog for my pda. So all I have to do is buy the software for my computer. One more question. How are you attaching your gps to your chest strap?
-
Do you get a good signal from the satalites when it is on your chest strap? How do you seperate different jumps with your gps?
-
I noticed that paralog can now interface with a handheld gps unit. Has anyone done this? Where are you putting your gps unit? How does it link up with the paragear software? thanks Francis
-
thanks just what I was looking for!

does anyone know of a log book program that will run on a palm pilot? Thanks FF

I know I will renew, but I would like the uspa to be more than a money pit for dues. They told Mike Igo at Gold Coast Skydiving to " get a lawyer" to help him with the airport authority. I thought that is what the airport defense fund. I was told in a private email that the fund was used only if the airport was doing something illegal. Well everyone has a right to a goverment airport. Why is mike being kicked off. They won't tell him why. It would be nice to have a huge organization on the side of the dz wielding a big stick. That is all I am saying.

I got a triathalon. I used to put in alot of jumps, but with having kids active in scouting and school I just didn't have the time do put into it over the past 5 years. Now that the kids are in college, I can starting jumping more now. Just as long as the money holds out. lol

Gold Coast Skydivers is moving up the road 20 miles north of Trent Lott Airport, at a little town called Lucedale. Great little grass strip with a huge landing area. Call Mike and he will give you directions.

can I still psycho pack it?
-
I got my renewal for my membership in the mail this past week and am debating on what to do. As some of you know that Gold Coast Skydiving is in a legal battle with the airport. What help has USPA given. ZERO Where is their help when a member dz needs it.
-
Do you have to pro pack a zero P? Hate to say I am an old dog and don't know if I can learn a new trick. But I am getting a new chute that is zp. Thanks Francis

It looks to me like the Samsung SC-X105L might be a great product...

well after a couple of jumps i am satisfied with this little camera. It is not for you if you are trying to make a living out of camera flying. but if you want something that won't break your neck and to record your jumps. this is for you. I purchased some rechargeable batteries for the external camera. Seems akaline batteries won't last long. FF -

Does anyone have an example of the video captured with the external lens? My wife gave me one for Christmas. So I will try it out tomorrow. I have a normal camera on one of my helmets. Damn the opening will break my neck one day. So I would like to try this out. Plus I don't do this for a living, just to record my jumps. Later FF -
