OK, we've all been there. You're standing around with your friends planning your next hot skydive and along comes somebody you really do not want to jump with - but who really wants to jump with you - and asks if he can join your group. I'm not talking about the guy who might be a second or two late to his slot. I mean the guy who you know, from past experience or reputation, will simply destroy your dive, take out everone else several times over, disappear at six grand and reappear under a deploying canopy directly beneath you. Oh, and then come down and proceed to give you some tips on improving your skills. The question is, how do you deal with it when he pops the question?

Yeah, rub it in, why don't you...

Habits from skydiving that cross-over to other areas of life?
MikeJD replied to HeatherB's topic in The Bonfire
Yep, when I first started jumping I found weather forecasts became a lot more polarised - from 'hot', 'windy', 'wet', 'cold', 'snowing', 'overcast' to 'jumpable' and 'non-jumpable'. Now I'm a little more jaded I've started to take notice of details like temperature again... -
I'm not saying that aliens aren't abducting people. What I want to know is, why do they insist on bringing them back?

Maybe you could apply to be a Group Member. Do you guys have the option of joint USPA membership? Here in the UK married couples / cohabiting partners get a discount for joint BPA membership (still hellishly expensive, though ) - and just one magazine per household.

Not me - but another jumper was telling me how, drunk in bed the other night, she found herself trying to use knee turns to stop the room from spinning... -
I was quite disappointed to find out a few years ago that he was Canadian and not Scottish after all. Although I bet any Scots could have told me that in an instant...

UK first to offer new VAFF training - advertised on "Hollyoaks"

We've been going out for TWO years and you still cannot spell my name!!!!! Vicki, go easy on him. He's not been well... -
Interesting thread you linked to about copyright, Lummy. I guess the owners of the rights probably have bigger fish to fry (like mass-production pirates), but the fact is that it's copying somebody's work, and worse, using it as part of a package that's then being sold on to someone else. Now, I think in this case, especially with the older stuff, it's as likely to promote that artist's material as it is to put him / her out of pocket - you probably just made a better video for the song than s/he did! But to me the ideal would be to produce your own tracks. Every dropzone must have musical talent, and you can make studio-quality recordings in a bedroom these days. Get someone to write and record the perfect skydiving soundtrack - including all the changes of tempo etc. that work well with a tandem video. Then it will be exactly right, you can use it again and again and there's never any possibility of you being chased for royalties. It also gives your budding dz musicians a chance to get their stuff out to a big audience! Just a thought...

Yes, that's it! Fandango, but as scripted by small children! -

On a slightly serious note, does anyone vet TV and movie scripts before they allow production companies to film at BPA dropzones? I know it's only a stupid soap opera, but it's hardly showing the sport in a favourable light. -

Seemed to be Netheravon-on-Sea. -
Erm... yes. But of course I switched off as soon as the naked women appeared.

To anyone who went to the trouble of watching Hollyoaks last night after I reactivated this thread - I am so sorry. I knew it'd be bad, but... but i had no idea...

Only likely if it was a night jump, I'd say. In which case, anything's possible.

Hmm. I couldn't possibly comment about that. But at least we only have lion enclosures to worry about at Headcorn. What I want to know is, where is this nudist colony? Is there something going on at Boscombe Down that we don't know about?
-
Just noticed in the TV listings that this goes out tonight at 22:50 on Channel 4. Jake, Ben and Billie (whoever they may be) are making one of those hyphenated sky-dives for charity. Apparently they 'make a safe landing in a nudist colony'. Just a regular Saturday afternoon at Nethers, then. But who spotted that lift?

Can I add the following message to your list? It is not necessary to remind me every ten minutes that it is now ten minutes / twenty minutes / three hours since you last ate. When I eventually feed you it is because your regular meal time has actually arrived - not because all that begging has worn me down, thus proving its effectiveness...

But you're not having your 8-way slot back. it's mine now, all mine!! MWAAAHAAHAAAAHAAAAA! Oh, alright then...
-
Yep! And the weather man says you're going to struggle to train this weekend ...

Good summer so far around the world (weather wise)?
MikeJD replied to vonSanta's topic in The Bonfire
Nope, not in the UK either. It's been pretty lousy so far. Now LAST summer was a different story... -
You got 'em? I want 'em!

I'm surprised if they don't offer that service themselves, or use a third party that will do it for them. Last time I had some embroidered patches made, I just sent the manufacturers a regular jpeg of the logo and they worked from that.

Presumably you're starting with a drawing or something similar - in which case the quickest way to get it into a digital format would be to scan it using a computer scanner. Then if you need to you can work on cleaning it up within the computer using a graphics program. That same program should allow you to save the image in whatever format the printers need. If you can't get access to a scanner, then you might be able to get away with taking a digital photo of the design and transferring that into your computer to use as a starting point. I'm working away from home this week and living in a hotel , so I have some time on my hands

Can somebody please emails these pics to me too? Ta!
