Unstowed brakes do what to the opening?

After a jump I forgot to stow my brakes, The packer who packed it did not stow them to teach me a lesson. It worked. Life's a Beach, Not a Mountain. -
My first off landing-long but you will laugh

One dreary day out at Eustis, Fl., a few of us decide to do a hop & pop & do a down wind run for the airport. The spot was a bit to long & we were about to land A couple of fields short. On approach there was a bull in the field & he spotted us. Well he took off & started running, came up to a barbed wire fence & thried to jump it. Well guess what got caught. The last guy landing said he heard the bull at a 1000'. That had to hurt. OUCH Life's a Beach, Not a Mountain. -

Going to WFFC with Less than 50 Jumps?
footbagman replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There is nothing wrong with just going to watch. There is alot to learn about landing by just watching. I know I have. Go have some fun. Life's a Beach, Not a Mountain. -
Good day skydivers. I am taking a cruise in July to Alaska, does anyone know of any places to jump either near Ketchikan, Juneau, or Skagway? I would love to make a jump or two while I am up there.

You're not a real skydiver unless....

I guess I became a real skydiver my second jump back into the sport after a 15 year lay off -
Welcome back. It was fifteen years between my jumps. Made my jump last October. Just like you was nervous at first but got out that door when the instructor said go. Waited way to long.

Some friends & I were at a bar called Nippers at Guana Cay, Bahamas, last summer. The bar sits on a small cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. We just hanging enjoying the scenery when out of the south a Twin Otter with floats comes screamng by @ 100" off from the bar. Twenty minutes later comes back from the other direction. Both times never heard it coming. That was cool. Life's a Beach, Not a Mountain.

Get yourself on video. It will help see what you are doing wrong. When I got back into the sport I was backsliding alot, When I saw the video I was able to see what I was doing wrong & corrected it. Blue Skies. Life's a Beach, Not a Mountain.

If all landing areas looked that good it would be great. Life's a Beach, Not a Mountain.

My exciting first hop n' pop story!
footbagman replied to schattenjaeger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Back in '81 when i was a college student at ERAU, jumping in Deland, I just had bought a used square, a heavy cloud 310 sq.'. The DC-3, Mr.Douglas, was heading out & offered a free hop & pop from 3000' for those who wanted to go. Got out, waited 5 secs, pulled, malfunction. One of the brake lines released & rapped around part of the canopy, 4 cells inflated out of 7. I thought I could clear it when I realized I could not, I was to low. I figured out how to make it fly straight & landing near The Relative Workshop. The best plf I have ever done, walked away from that one. -
The sport has changed so much in the last 20 years. The equipment is much safer but speed seems to be the in thing. With these new high performence canopies & freeflying it was like going from a para-commander & static line jumps to freefalling & squares, big changes. It is good advice to take it slow, have every intention on. Its just fun being back in the air again. Blue Skies Life's a Beach, Not a Mountain.
