In the end they'll find any excuse to accuse the Unites States of engaging in a holy war. I just wonder how some here would feel if these were references to verses in the Koran instead of the Bible. My guess would be that these same people would be up in arms going, going ape s%$t and would want to hang the execs of this company for promoting terrorism.

An Example of What Happens When the Government Takes Over
Casurf1978 replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
We've also had our hand in Central and South American politics. It's not as simple as saying 'economies dont work there'. Just look at what happened in Guatemala in the 1950's with United Fruit Company. Back to the OP, I wouldn't worry about China or Japan dumping US bonds, our economies are too intertwined. I would be more worried about an economic crash in China. Came across this interesting article. http://finance.yahoo.com/retirement/article/108534/contrarian-investor-sees-economic-crash-in-china?mod=retire-planning -
Nice flying, didn't know the Germany had a tunnel. Looks like a pretty big one too.

Check out Ultimate Ears. I've owned both Shure and UE and find the latter to be a better value since the cables are replaceable. I had a pair of Shures and one of the cables was damaged, pretty much had to throw the pair away.

I agree, but science and religion should be taught separately. If you are going to teach creationism might as well teach other religious views has to how the world was created. IMO religious education should be a topic left to the parents to teach not the public school system.

Thanks everyone. It was a business check, typed out with the business name and address from a Wells bank account. My reasoning was that since it was from Wells, I could go to any branch and cash it. Thus avoiding any potential problems if it turned out to be fraudulent. What pisses me off is that I spoke to the branch manager asking him to verify the check and he did. He even presented it to a teller. I'll go to the police tomorrow and then back to the bank. Talk about a lesson learned. Just hope others can learn from this.

Long story short I sold some items on e-bay, the buyer sent me a check from Wells Fargo. I went to Wells and cashed the check, even asked the bank manager if this was a valid check from a valid account and if it was a legitimate. He said it was a valid check and cashed it. This happened last week, today I get a call from Wells saying that the check I cashed was fraudulent and I'm responsible for the 900+ dollars and if I don't pay them they will send me to collections and notify check systems. The items have already been shipped and I think I should not be held responsiblle for the banks mistake. Has this ever happened to anyone and if so what did you do.

So enlighten us as to why divorce is so high today. Here's an intersting report for you. http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_dira.htm You guys preach all these 'family values', yet this report paints a different picture. The highest divorce rates were found in the Bible Belt, roughly 50% above the national average. How do you explain that? The same people that are screaming on preserving the sanctity of marriage and how gay marriage will destroy that institution so vital to our survival are getting divorced more than any others.

Why is it wrong? Are you that concerned what two consenting adults do behind closed doors. I really don't understand why people make such a big deal about sexuality and sex if it's between consenting adults. Maybe you should watch the HBO series Real Sex. Just curious to see how many of the things on there you would find 'wrong'.

Do you think Obama will make some good changes in our economy?
Casurf1978 replied to real1324's topic in Speakers Corner
Thanks. Good article and it's a catch-22. If they don't pay dividends investors wont want to invest in the banks, hoard the cash and there is less to lend out, pay out the dividends the public gets pissed and banks look irresponsible. I would really like to hear what top economist and investors have to say. -

Casurf1978 replied to real1324's topic in Speakers Corner
I remember that party, it was here in southern california Laguna Beach I think. You also have to remember that it was booked months in advance and pre-paid for. Not much you can do there. I'm not saying it was the right thing to do, but in that instance they couldn't do much. Did you know over 83% of firms on the Street are canceling their annual x-mas party. And from a friend who works at S&P the bonuses this year are being slashed across the board. An AIG failure would've been felt worldwide. It needed to be helped out. I'm just curious to see where the previous poster got that this bailout will be used to issue stock dividends. -

Where are you getting this information from? Especially the one concerning the stock dividends and executive pay. Yes, the public was against the bail out, and they were wrong. I doubt your average Joe could've comprehended what would've happened if AIG went under. When you have people like Buffet, and Soros backing the bail out I would think most people would at listen educate themselves as to what is really going on. Instead they bitch and moan and expect the news media to spoon feed them information. Obama knows he's not the smartest man out there and realizes that he does NOT have all the answers. But what he is doing is surrounding himself with some pretty freaking smart people. Here are a few: Buffet, Giether, Summers (grad of MIT at 16 and tenured at Harvard at 28), chairs of Google, Time Warner and Xerox. All these individuals and a few others are part of Obama's economic brain trust team. Yes, I think Obama's plan will work but it will take some time. -
You pretty much summed up what I think of her. It just seems unfathomable for me to think that McCain's people did not know this about her. Hell, my first job out of college I had to give three references and they did a background check on me. All this stuff coming up a few days after the GOP loss is just too neatly packaged and nicely presented to us. I think McCain knew he was going to lose and needed a scapegoat to save his butt.

And they are wrong. Gays are not looking to redefine the word marriage, just looking for the same rights married couples have. One of the principles of democracy is majority rule, with minority rights. I came across this and it pretty much sums it up. "Majority rule is a means for organizing government and deciding public issues; it is not another road to oppression. Just as no self-appointed group has the right to oppress others, so no majority, even in a democracy, should take away the basic rights and freedoms of a minority group or individual." What is so hard to understand about this?

How are you using the constitution? I just saying that sometimes the judicial system is necessary. Such was the case back in the 60s with interracial marriage. Like I said before, I dont care what you call it just give them the same rights others have.
-
Kindof like the same judges who viewed anti-miscegenation laws as unconstitutional. Yeah real simple. We have to put these activist judges under control. Just give them the same f-ing rights the rest of the nation has. Is it really that hard? Call it what you want, but grant them the same rights.

Yeah, she's done. I also agree with your reply to my post, she is an idiot. But she doesn't deserve to be treated like this. Just let her go back to Alaska and finish out her political life. No need to be treated like this.
-
That's what peaked my interest though. You're telling me that McCain's campaign did not look into her or did a full check on anything that might damage his ticket with her as a VP pick. I never did like her, but I think the GOP are using her as a scapegoat for their loss on Tuesday. It's too convenient that all this is now just coming up.

On the purely legal side what is the next step? Wether 8 passed or was defeated I'm sure each side had a plan b. Can you file a lawsuit on a something like this. If so where would you go to. Prop 8 trumps what the Cali Supreme court ruled last year, so would they go to the US Supreme Court. I'm just really curious as to what the next legal steps are, if there are any.

You guys are really, really reaching arent you. Let's assume he would've helped her out, then you wouldve jumped on him for 'pulling strings'. It's a no win situation with the right wing, damn if you do damn if you don't. Two degrees in finance should say enough. If you don't remember the markets were on the brink of failing if AIG didn't get bailed out. Read up a little on what would've happened if AIG would've failed. My cousin is a hard core herion addict who is living out on the streets somewhere. Should I help him out? A cousin who I've only met once in my life and that was when I was 7 years old and barely remember him. Get serious will you. As a some have posted he barely knows this woman.

This country if facing the worst economic crisis since the great depression, we're going on 6 year in Iraq with no end in sight, and this is important to you. Really makes me wonder about the typical american voter and what is important to him or her. What's next? Might as well find out how many times the man bounced a check in his life, or if heaven forbid he forgot to run a full credit, background, FBI, NSA and CIA check on anyone he has hired.

FYI just check out what he has written in the past. He seriously thought the Dow would reach 36,000. Hassett has no idea what the hell is going on. If you really want to grasp this whole mess start reading some of the books Soros has written. I know you think he's a liberal scum, but he is a self made billionaire and loves this country so he knows a little bit more of what's at stake than Hassett. Then hit up Buffett, even though he and Soros differ on the bailout both make excellent points.
-
You guys forgot to leave this out about the author: (Kevin Hassett, director of economic-policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, is a Bloomberg News columnist. He is an adviser to Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona in the 2008 presidential election. The opinions expressed are his own.) Advisor to McCain so of course he's going to blame the Democrats. Love it out the OP just picks and chooses what best suits his point of view. If you guys really want to start to understand this mess start reading the WSJ, Economist and The Financial Times. It's not as simplistic as either you or the OP make it seem.
-
Rough is an understatement. Did you even pay attention to what Buffet said. He just might know what he's talking about. If this bill doesn't pass we will be looking at an economic melt down. I hate the idea of government intervention, but in this case just like back in the 1930's it is needed.

It's so easy for the right wingers to pull out and give a carte blanche to Bush for this war which if I recall was going to cost between 60B and 80B and now it's well over 600B. But when our economy in on the brink of one of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and when it needs government help they bitch about it. What's going on right now in Wall Street is not a market correction, there are serious problems that need to be addressed and this bailout in necessary. Cant they get that through their heads.
