(man, does that title work on many levels...) hey.. boogie virgin here... new A license, 35 jumps.. here's the situation: i'm a pretty nice guy. i can hold my own in most conversations. i don't usually drool for no reason. my arrest record is clean (does that disqualify me?). only problem is two fold: 1) i'm not good at breaking the ice in social situations. 2) i don't like doing adventures to new places alone - i always feel like an interloper. so.. i'm looking for a sociable soul who would be interested in sharing expenses, time and fun going to boogies and occasionally just to visit a new dz on a semi-regular basis. either sex is okay - prefer female company, but not looking for, um, that. i just get along better with 'em. but okay, guys are fine too. my main concern would be that they be easy going, social, party types, and willing to rough it a little. by rough it i mean packing area camping, although i could see eventually getting a tent or something. local cheap hotels work too. btw, i'm in memphis and WTS is my dz. by local, i mean anything within about 8-10 hours drive time from here. that covers a -lot- of territory... roughly the circle from chicago to oklahoma city to dallas to the gulf coast to tallahassee to raleigh to columbus - probably 40 dz's? that oughta keep us busy and broke for a long time.... anyone game? also looking for a buddy? know anyone? michael Michael Hart

Caravan @ Tennessee Skydiving Center

... there are different kind of bumps. ...speed bumps... bump your booty on a butt landing.. there are bumpy brothers ...dance from the 50's called The Bump... ... the bump to tell people to get their bumpy booties out to Tullahoma this weekend and jump! .. a bump being a drink or beer. example: Do you wanna go out for a few bumps? Hmmm.. that sounds like something I'd rather stay *in* for.. mmmm... i'm thinking "bumpin' nasties" would DEFINITELY be a "stay in for" or, for those in the military .. "bumpin' privates"... hey all... wow! i'm so excited... for multiple reasons... 1st - woohoo! i've always loved looking at the pics on the walls from the previous Halloween boogies... can't wait to be at this one (my first!). 2nd - i finally put dz names with faces from the dz.. hi everyone! judy, chris, trent, kevin, andy... hey.. now i'm wondering... i'm hoping there aren't any boogie-virgin initiation rites... you know.. some strange, deviant sexual practices or something... wait, what am i saying! of course i do!! michael Michael Hart -

agreed. i had this conversation just the other day with a friend who's been broadening my musical horizons . in SO MANY hip-hop and rap songs the artists (not gonna touch -that- argument!) talk about "theyselves" and how great they is and gotta say their own names... waaaay back before howard stern got really big he had a habit that always annoyed me. every time he'd say something he thought funny or profound, which was pretty much everything out of his mouth, he'd play this sound clip of clapping and applause - like that was 'sposed to clue us that his highness said something important? he doesn't do it much anymore.. another example - rush limbaugh... his ?slogan?motto? was always "talent on loan from G-d"... gimme a f*ckin' break... all you performers - don't tell us how great you are, show us!! give us good music, movies, books, discussion, whatever... if it's good, we'll know it.. just my thoughts... your mileage may vary michael Michael Hart

not gonna say much 'cept I liked the movie "8 Mile". also, i like his two cuts on the sound track... Now, for real listening pleasure, check out Wierd Al Yankovich's "Will The Real Slim Shady Please Shut Up"... Freakin' hilarious! Michael Hart

0:0:0 damned Hur. Jeanne... AGAIN! Even here in Memphis, winds were high.. too high for me anyway.. WTS has the german ?Seals? on site again, and they were jumping. the wind was gusty and very variable... those huge (350 sq ft) were really bouncing around... did see a few tandems and a few others. I saw very few people jump twice I admit it - I tried to figure out the notation... x:y:z... what're the three pieces? Sat:Sun:Number of shots? solo sex: couple sex: group sex? Belly: free: rw? beers: shots: pizzas? michael Michael Hart

DISCLAIMER: I am not a lawyer nor have I ever played on TV. Seek competent legal representation. Drawing on my experience owning many rental properties, evictions, mortgages, etc... I don't see anything to be concerned about at this point. -IF- he were to fall under a suit freezing his assets, you might be affected, but not much, at least, not for a long time. Don't know about your state, but in most states (my experience is limited to FL), renters -do- have quasi-owner rights. Even if he's taken away and all assets frozen, the holder of the mortgage on the property would be required to honor your rights. Now, that's not to say that the landlord (or his agent, or the mortgagor should it get that far) couldn't give you proper notice (usually 30 days on an annual lease - check your lease) at any time. But frankly, that's true today as well. I'd just keep an ear & eye on the news, see what develops. Call your landlord and ask if there's anything you need to be aware of. The thing to remember is that, from a landlords' perspective, any unit is better off rented than not! michael Michael Hart

when i was 20 and in the AF, I had a brief thing with a 36 y.o. with -1- exception, every woman i've ever dated has been older than me. i don't think that was a conscious decision though, i think i just ?gravitated? toward older women. for the ladies who (tend to) date older men... (or men who date older women) why? is it a maturity thing? stability? a different kind of look & sexiness in older men? do you find a general age range (IE, 5-15 years older than yourself) to be consistently attractive, or is it just "older". and of course: so where are the 27-35 y.o. women that are looking for a mid-40's kinda guy? interestingly enough, my buddy in the next cube and i have recently been having in depth conversations about this exact topic. I'd love to get others' opinions ("others" especially being younger women who date older men), but i don't wanna hijack the thread. (if anyone or enough pm me and indicate interest in continuing said topic in a semi-serious thread, i'll start a new one... ) Sundays' mission: 5 jumps! woohoo!!! michael Michael Hart

Until just a few months ago, I'd have nixed 'em. (No, I haven't recently come face to face, as it were, with one - just been ...expanding my horizons...) Like most things, they can be either ugly, bland, or extremely beautiful and erotic. I'm firmly in the "beautiful & erotic" camp.... michael Michael Hart

Hey all.. Just wanted to boast a little! I finished my A license today at West Tennesse Skydiving... 34 jumps total. Started at Skydive Sebastian in Sebastian, FL just a little over a year ago. Been on contract in Memphis, TN since October 03 and jumping at WTS. Thanks to all who've helped me along the way... Mic, Mark, Euwe, Chris, Judy, Andrea, Stephanie, Kevin, Brent, Donnie, Steve, Maak, Andy and others who i don't recall right now... I love this sport. It's one of the few things I've ever been involved in where, almost without exception, EVERYONE will help you, with no ulterior motives other than helping you learn the sport. When I've learned enough to be able to "Pay It Forward", I will. Humorous note: I've been having trouble standing on landing for the last 15 jumps or so.... Jumps 32, 33 & 34 were fantastic stand ups!!! 34 was my spot jump.. last A license item. So, on the last load of today I did my first A-licensed jump. Fell on my face!! some kind of cosmic poetic justice there... Blue skies all.... michael Michael Hart

Novice & Canopy question: Silhouette, Sabre, or ???
mhartboca replied to mhartboca's topic in Gear and Rigging
yes, i've seen the charts. the max weight for a PD230 is listed at 230# and i exceed that. EVERYONE i've talked to indicates there's -lots- of safety margin in the tables. I'd have to agree. i've jumped a Navigator 220 a few times, my PD230 a few times a sabre 210 twice and a 260 a couple of times. all my instructors and rigger feel, based on watching me fly and land, that a zp210 is fine for me. So far, i'm comfortable with landing all those canopies, except the PD230, which (they've said, having watched me land it) has no flare. I'm open to suggestion. Michael Hart -
Novice & Canopy question: Silhouette, Sabre, or ???
mhartboca replied to mhartboca's topic in Gear and Rigging
new jumper, 23 jumps, currently jumping a PD230 (bought used with about 400 jumps). my OTD weight is about 250#. Instructors watching me land say i don't get enough flare from the PD230. So i'm looking for a ZP main. Right now I can get a sabre 210 for $750 or a Silhouette 210 for about $600. There's also a Sabre230, a Navigator, etc, but these two seem to be at the top of my hit parade. Pros and cons of either? I've heard the horror stories about the "Sabre snatch". I've also had others tell me they have never experienced it and love the Sabre. The Silhouette is a ZP top/F111 bottom. I've not heard anything at all bad about the Silhouette except possibly resale prices. Everything i've read about the silhouette sounds good. since the silh is a hybrid, what kind of life can you expect from it? i understand ZP canopies to be multi-1000's of jumps, and F111 to be life limited at about 700 or so. What about a hybrid like the Silh? additional info: i'm 46 and VERY conservative - IE, in NO way a hot dog. I want to be able to log thousands of jumps. at my age bones don't heal as quickly. I'm guessing that, as my friend Judy would say, "hot chicky babe" is probably outta the question? Michael Hart -
novice here, but for whatever reason, i've just wound up with 3 helmets - a Havok and 2 Z1's. The Havok's are all made with the same size shell and the fit is done with different sized pad sets. My Havok has an XL pad set. I must have a big freakin' head, coz i can barely, and i mean BARELY get the damn thing on my head. the parts that cover the ears turns in at the bottom and i can --just-- barely get it over my ears. then, the face shield is RIGHT up against my face. No way i could wear my glasses, which is part of the reason i wanted a full face. The two Z1's fit ok. still a little small for my liking, but at least i can get it on without killing my ears. but even with this one, there is NO WAY i could wear my glasses. i haven't jumped it yet, but it does seem to me as though the chin strap is less than totally secure - i could see how it might come off. (not mine though, coz it'll be held on by the friction fit!) When i rode motorcycles i always had a full face helmet. These seem to fit completely differently than motorcycle helmets. Are they supposed to be so close to the face? is any particular brand/model known to be larger to where glasses become a possibility? I know my head is large and that i might have issues getting a good helmet fit - for one thing, those "one size fits all" baseball caps? Never, ever, ever found one that fits. so for now, i'll wear the z1 with contacts... Michael Hart

Another newbie here... Something I've always wanted to do... So, thanks to my own personal mid-life crises this past year (and continuing).. I did it! Wheee! Wow! Whoa! So many words to describe it, but none really do the job, do they? Meanwhile, I'm past AFF, hoping for jump #14 this weekend, weather permitting. I live in SE Florida, consider Sebastian my home DZ, but work in Memphis, so I also jump at West Tennessee Skydiving. In TN, ya gotta wear extra clothes! Brrrrr. And these things that go over your hands; "gloves" I think they're called. At home, we sometimes have to wear long sleeves. :-) I love it! Currently looking for my first rig, if anyone knows of one... Something around a 220, with all the accessories... Blue skies all! Michael Michael Hart
