polite conversation? on dz.com? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA You expect people to be polite and respectful (not litter) with their actions but not with their words? if so, how do you expect anyone to improve themselves? are you implying that all self improvement stems from criticism? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

but defending the act of throwing your butts on the ground is ridiculous I didn't defend the act of littering with cigarette butts. I completely agree that it is a really bad habit, as are many many other things. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Bad form.. oh It's bad enough you have such a useless, nasty, stinky, unattractive habit.. That, I would call bad form in a polite conversation. i haven't seen leaps in logic like that since... When similar forms of litter were brought up (gum, rubber bands, bottle caps, etc) it was simply dismissed as irrelevant. If the purpose of this thread was simply to bitch about other people's habits and leave absolutely no room for introspection into our own habits then I apologize. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Its fairly common to take a concept to an extreme to illustrate the counter point. I will try to simplify it. Are you perfect? Do you have any flaws/bad habits? Would you like a public discussion about those flaws? Perhaps we should have a thread dedicated to discussion about the poster who nearly (intentionally) caused a serious traffic accident because of a cigarette butt. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Please stop driving your vehicle, it damages the enviroment and makes the air smell. Please stop flying, it REALLY damages the enviroment and humans. Living near a major airport (I live by ORD) has been linked to a 40% increase chance in getting cancer. Simply unacceptable. Please stop using anything that requires electricity, the power plants damage the enviroment and the power lines cause cancer. Please stop eatting meat. The animals never did anything to you, and don't deserve to die. Please stop eatting anything organic, plants have just as much a right to live and not be up-rooted, torn apart, chopped up, and cooked as you do. This list could go on and on... Seriously tho, I am really glad the world is filled with so many perfect people that don't have ANY bad habits that the world could easily do without. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Free for awhile I use avast and you're right...it's top notch. For some of the more obscure viruses I use to use panda because Norton didn't catch them. I don't have to do that anymore with avast Having used Avast for quite awhile now.... and never having paid for it, no idea what you're talking about. However, yes Avast is an excellent scanner. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Recently flew from Chicago to Athens, Greece (layover in Paris). One person in my group was trying to fly it cold turkey, another had brought dip (that he somehow lost), and I brought some nicorette in hope that it might actually do something. By the time we landed in Paris we were all chewing nicorette, it doesn't entirely cover up the craving... but it helps a bit. Though, I admit to being tempted to go for the door. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

well... with the way my life is... and the way the world is... If I live long enough to die from smoking, I did something right. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

at what point do you just buy a whole new 'puter?
Cudlo replied to SpeedRacer's topic in The Bonfire
Every two years. nah, its every 18 months. 2 years and you're beyond outdated Seriously though, you get what you pay for with computers just like cars. Buy a cheap computer and you are buying a cheaply built computer. Companies like Dell can afford to sell computers very cheaply because the parts they use are not only rare but f'ing cheap. I was installing a new HD in my friend's Dell, when I went to set the jumpers on the original HD to Master w/ a Slave I was suprised to find out that the off brand HD had 32 freakin jumper configurations. I'm sure somewhere there was a purpose in mind when they made "Master w/ Slave: And subtract 4GB of space on Master" Just my opinion, but its generally best to avoid the large scale bargain basement computers like E-Machines, Dell, etc. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard -

Yeah.. that was fun... Went in for an ACL fixer up (hamstring graft). Was supposed to take an hour or two. Woke up about 5 hours later to the doctor saying "Hey, we found alot more wrong than we thought!". Found out, aside form the ACL being gone, I also had destroyed my medial meniscus, lateral meniscus, and... well about everything else in there. Rehab was... fun. Weight lifting, biking, and of course the chair. When you find yourself sitting on a rolling office chair in a carpeted room, dragging yourself back and forth with your bad leg, well.. it sucks. But, it must have all worked cause a couple years later when I re-injured it, I only destroyed the meniscus, ACL held up. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Comcast Cable Internet: Current Downstream - 600-800 KB/s Current Upstream - 40 KB/s (wish they would raise that but whatever) Helps that I am not in a trendy area... mostly middle age folk around this part that don't even know how to turn on a computer let alone use the internet. So, the cable network doesn't get slammed very hard even during peak hours. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Costs about $102 to fill up my truck. According to the paper this morning (or yesterday, whatever) Chicago now has the highest national average for gas... I remember a couple years ago when they lifted the taxes on fuel because it had gone up above $2 and people were hurtin... the way things are goin its gonna be above $4 next week in Chicago. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

What is the worst thing you have ever put in your mouth?
Cudlo replied to benforde's topic in The Bonfire
Didn't do it personally, but still made me sick. In basic all the nicotine addicts had to get their fix. So.. you either crawled through the woods at 3am for a smoke, or chewed tobacco (I was the dumb ass crawling in the woods). Anyway... the guys who chewed needed a place to spit, so we stole a couple extra canteens and they would spit into those. Some kid had the misfortune of grabbing one of those canteens before going out for PT... Not sure if it was cause of the CAT 5 heat or what.. but they would tell us "drink EVERYTHING in your canteen then hold it upside down over your head to prove its empty"... yuck. this kid not only got very sick, but very messy when he turned it over. DSs were NOT amused. We ended up doing PT for about 16 hours that day because of that. _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard -

That is not to produce hydrogen, it is to allow you to fill up the tank from your home gas supply for a natural gas powered engine. Actually (according to the discovery channel) it was for producing hydrogen. Not sure where you got the
-
There are several different methods for obtaining the hydrogen. It can be produced from coal plants (not very eco friendly obviously), it can be removed from natural gas (Honda has an idea to put a box outside your house that is hooked up to your naturual gas line, gas pump at your house!) or it can be produced passing electricity through water (the eco people want plants with wind, solar generators to make the electricity. For the vehicle itself, its an electric engine, passing hydrogen and oxygen past eachother with a plate inbetween (obviously its a bit more complicated) which generates electricity as it pulls electrons from the hydrogen (if im not mistaken). The byproduct of a hydrogen fuel cell engine is... water. Gov. Terminator out in Cali recently signed a bill setting up Hydrogen Highways as it was called. Basically, building the hydrogen fuel pump infrastructure needed for these cars. Also of note.. While they have prototype cars using this technology, they already have operational hydrogen fuel cell buses on the street. Wonder if they could make hydrogen fuel cell prop planes... _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

I am all for enviromentally friendly vehicles. I am really excited by the concept of the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. But, as for the hybrid engines. What happens to the batteries when they no longer accept a charge? Garbage dump? Enviromentally friendly? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Kinda reminds me of a video (TV interview) i saw where the student blamed the equipment for the incident. Said he pulled his parachute but nothing happened, then the instructor pulled it out of the container and the parachute just flew away... They then showed the video. He had pulled his cutaway handle instead of the BOC hackey. Instructors pulled the pilot chute for the main out, clearing the now cutaway main out of the container before deploying his reserve. How do people like this get on tv?!? _________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard
