It's been a while since I've visited this wonderful site, and it's been even longer since I've jumped. I almost wish I could say that I've been injured and couldn't jump, but the painful truth is that I have been in recovery from a problem with drugs. After my Dad passed away, I began to have serious problems sleeping. I started taking a benadryl or two to help, and before I knew it I was taking demerol. I had isolated myself from everything and everyone and never talked to anyone about what I was going through. I kick myself in the ass when I think that a few conversations might have stopped me from going down the road of drug abuse. I took a few months off of work, went to rehab, and have now been clean and sober for 1 year. Life is starting to be beautiful once again, and I'm actually saving a lot of money by not going to bars and such. I hope to get in a jump before the year ends, I'll probably do a tandem, and maybe start AFF over next spring. I've never met anyone on this site in real life, but I feel like I know a lot of you and feel a certain amount of friendship to the skydiving community. I have missed this site, and have really missed all the great people at Skydive PA and look forward to getting in the air again. Who knows, maybe with all the money I'm saving, I can finally afford that G4 I'm so in love with.

Martial Arts Practitioners i have a question.
SkydivingNurse replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
I practice Wing Chun. It's a pretty useful style. There aren't a whole lot of flashy hollywood kicks, no "let's spin round 360 degrees to do something" moves. I have never had to use it, which I am grateful for, so I can't tell you how well it would serve in a bar full of drunken idiots looking to get into trouble. You don't need to be super flexible or really strong to use it. It's also a fairly brutal style when it needs to be. I haven't studied any other styles, so I can't speak for how useful they would be. (and just in case anyone is wondering, I studied with Sifu Dave Meadows in Norfolk, Virginia. His Sifu was Duncan Leung. Mr. Leung learned from Yip Man) -
Sword fight. Goofy? Yes. Likely to happen? Probably not, but anything's possible in an infinite universe. Actually, anything with some nobility in it. Saving a life would be nice, but dying for a reason, not some accident or the infirmity of old age, seems like the way to go.

Get some vaseline, find a car from someone in management that may have been less than kind to you, write profanities in vaseline all over the car's hood, wait for the road grime to bring on Shenanigans!

I wanted to jump today. It's my Birthday and I thought that getting back into the air would be a nice way to celebrate. Unfortunately, it was cloudy all day today. Oh well. There will be other times, and I've taken two cases of beer to the dz and hung out and talked and generally had a fantastic time. I'd have loved to jump, but hanging out and bs-ing were fun, too.
