  1. You know the removable brackets (you can kinda see em from the first picture) that are used for mounting the camcorder or stills camera..... You know of any sites that sell em... they seem to be quite hard to find.. I'm trying to use it with the PC8.. but the bolt hole isn't placed correctly (4mm too far back) Bolt hole not screw hole. Are there different types.. or are you supposed to just drill your own holes ? I am a wizard.....
  2. Hi all. New jumper (180 jumps) (not jumping camera till 200+) Am wanting to get into camera jumping (as I do a lot of editing and stuff) and have bought a camera helmet to be used with my Sony PC8. It's a Bonehead helmet, and I was wondering about cutaway systems.... since it's a fixed chin and you put the helmet on by inserting your head in from the back rather than pulling it straight down. Anyone got good any ideas or suggestions ? It's got a visual timeout fitted (goes off in your ear and makes a red light flash on the ringsight), so even if I do get distracted by filming (which appears to happen more often than most people think..... judging from some posts I have read) Also have a Pro Track which I will fit in addition to the visual timeout... Saftey in mind with regards to altitude awareness I was actually more concerned with the deployment sequence.... I will only be using this camera helmet for Video for the moment (as I don't have a stills yet) If you look at the picture you can see the problem I am thinking of. The camera is mounted on the top of the helmet... I am planning to have it mounted inside a metal case rather than just use a camera condom for it. I hear a bit about riser strikes or lines catching. I hear people dipping their heads at deployment time so it doesn't strike.... I hear many things.... What are peoples views on this setup and their views on cutaway systems for this type of setup. 3. ahh.... just saw a second page when looking for my post..... covered most of what I said anyway... oh well.... I am a wizard.....
  4. Several things to be aware of when capturing video to a PC. 1. you need a fairly large amount of disk space 2Gb for 10 mins (roughly) Using a standard DV compressor. 2. Don't capture in Uncompressed.... file sizes are unspeakable. 3. Defragment your hard drive. (Drives fragment over time as files get moved deleted and so forth.) Free tools can be found all over the net on trials and freeware. A heavily fragmented drive will severly reduce the capture performance and you may find your PC dumping \ dropping frames. 4. Use an adequate processor, not really a direct impact upon the capture, but can have an effect on the program running it (especially if there are multiple background processes running) 5. You may want to disable your virus scanner if you have one (and disconnect from the net) The virus scanners can be set to scan incomming files, entire drives folders and files etc.... you don't want this program requesting read access to areas of your drive while you are trying to write to others. Disconnecting from the net is just a general good idea (my flatmates drove me insane by sending net messages to me while I was copying) 6. Memory not that important in the actual CAPTURE (unless it's being captured to anything like MPEG) but as it's cheap as chips, you may want to top up :) 7. Expandin on the above.... capture in AVI. It's cleaner and easier to work with (and you need type 1 or type 2 AVI files to export back to most camcorders. 8. Limit the number of programs running (you said you did this already, but I am wondering if you are terminating the processes by using the icons on the bottom right (near the clock) or by using Ctrl + Alt + Delete and selecting the processes there.... (Don't do this unless you know what you are doing) 9. Win a lot of money and get the most stupidly fast machine with lots of memory and disk space....... I'm still working on the winning bit.... I am a wizard.....
