Here's mine. My first jump was a tandem at Skydive America in Florida. Does anyone know name of tandem instructor? Does anyone know name of woman taking video & pictures? I would love to add to my log book. 1/9/2000: Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 2004: Rantoul Bi Plane Rantoul Birdman Tube A Tube B Round Jump "It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." -J. WIND??? When will you sit?
skydivingwill replied to MrJones's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My limit is higher then most DZs and pilots are. Which is probably good for me. I have landed a few times in winds greater then 30. My max is 32 mph. I was going backwards a bit. It's turbulence and gusts of more then 10 mph that bother me. A sudden jerk is freaky and could kill you. What really freaks me out is when pilot says landing because winds got to high on way up. I've only landed in an aircraft 11 times and I'd rather jump out. It's nice and open in Clewiston, FL so not to many obstacles. But other places where landing area is tight my max is 20 mph. 2nd (Round) ParaCommander Jump
skydivingwill replied to skydivingwill's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi All, Here's an update on my 2nd jump. Seems I can only do Hop N Pops with that round now. I eyeballed the spot. I got closer to target (short by 100 yards). I had a bit more wind (8 mph on landing). I turned into the wind. and land nicely. Anyway here's a 1 meg movie shot from ground. Shot by my friend Chris around sunset. http://users.adelphia.net/~wfastige/Web20041121-Round.wmv Thanks all for the stories and info from first post. Ignore your so called friends. Try to check weather reports and make sure your there at right time or there the whole weekend. Worst case get really good at packing, it's a big part of sport. Maybe even make some money to pay for AFF and gear. Also never hurts to get to know everybody. Then when you have your A you'll have a bunch of people to jump with and you can pack fast. Persistent pays off. It took me 3 months to get 20 jumps because of rain and and wind here in florida. "It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." -J. K. I'm not pick on you response but here is my response. Shorten time between groups. Last guy gets same altitude as first guy. If you feel you can tell the difference then maybe. Maybe only good reason to lower air speed. Good example of plane that has more prop blast on ground then any other plane in flight. Good reason for that person to either not be front float or get new gear. I'd hate to be rear of that person outside the door. Thanks for replying, one aspect we didn't consider. A good question came up at my dz. We jump a Caravan here at the Clewiston Florida DZ. I've jumped out of Skyvan, Mullin's KingAir, Cesa, Porter, 206, 182 and a few others. Why do we call cut? What is the point? I use to out of habit up until 100 jumps and no long request it. To me the wind force and prop blast doesn't feel any different. I usually climb out first for camera spot. I even hear some complain that the front slot is worst because they take most of wind blast. I jumped around 150 freefly jumps with a 110 lb girl that never complained about hanging outside at full speed. (I think she wanted best looking video.) So what does everybody think the pros and cons are? "It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." -J. K. Rowling willtofly.com Videos, Pictures & News

any one know how to exit a raft from a caravan?
skydivingwill replied to medusa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I got 2 small rafts. But I'm sure we'll have to find someone that can convince the pilot to let us jump it. "It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." -J. K. Rowling willtofly.com Videos, Pictures & News -
1st ParaCommander Jump
skydivingwill replied to skydivingwill's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was told that they did that for when aiming for target, but it was followed by a tumble. I can see how it would slow the forward speed, but the forward speed isn't much. 1st ParaCommander Jump
skydivingwill replied to skydivingwill's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This past week end, I jumped a round parachute that was older then me. I'm 28 the and parachute is at least 29 years old. I have been wanting to jump a round parachute since before I started skydiving. The more I learned about this sports history the more I wanted to jump one. I was hoping to find a vintage Para Commander. I heard all sorts of misinformation from skydivers who only jumped them a few times as a student or never at all. Luckily here at the Clewiston Florida drop zone we have a few older and experienced skydivers that had hundreds of jumps on these rounds. Leo had two PCs with older harnesses. Both PCs were older then me and in good conduction. The rigger didn't like the conduction of the harnesses or of the idea of cape wells. We ended up finding a not quite large enough student Javelin to stick one of the rounds in. It took a few weeks to get all the parts together. Lee had to modify some three ring raisers and added a new spring loaded pilot chute. We had to shove the round in sidewise and use a long closing loop. In the end we had a safe but odd looking parachute system. Jerry and Pam (AFF instructors) had me do a few PLFs. Smitty who has hundreds of round jumps coached me on how to fly it. On the way to altitude we throw out a wind drift to help spot. At 5K hopped out waited 5 seconds and pulled rip cord. The opening was pretty soft. It was very quite, almost like being in a hot air balloon. This parachute didn't have much speed at all. I was guiding more then flying it. The turns were more like a rotation then anything. For the landing as instructed I didn't flare or pull down on the raisers. I just put my hands in front of me and braced for the impacted. The landing was surprisingly nice and soft. I landed on the DZ but about a 100 yards from the peas. The staff at Clewiston are great people and helped me with one of my long-term goals. I got tons of video and pictures from Smitty, Dano & Matt. I plan on jumping this round a few more times. I want to try a birdman and maybe even a Mr Bill. (Clewiston's $15 Fridays!!!) The fine print says good until 12/31/04. A few of us will be there on 10/29/04. If we get around 15+ people we could do a bunch of back2back loads and save lots of money. Yep, so far most pics from me and Kazoo but will have more from others. Saturdays are pretty busy. Sundays seem to start late. I think Clewiston has been doing about 14 loads a day when weather good.
