  1. Ok, then instead of saying Perhaps you could say Other threads have already illustrated that not all incidents are caused by swoopers, but it is leading to restrictions on swoopers. People that are implementing or supporting these restrictions are citing all accidents, not just the ones the swoopers are involved in. The argument that the only way to keep swoopers from being banned is to control swoopers, just doesn't hold water with me. At this point, any canopy collision, whether related to swooping or not, will result in even further restrictions for swoopers. For the record, I am neither for nor against SDAs policy. But I clearly don't like the finger pointed at swoopers as the sole problem as your first statement I quoted clearly does. I don't think this is helpful at getting to the root of the problem. I think you know that swoopers aren't the only problem, but your statements say otherwise. Then you continue to defend them instead of "what I really meant was...." 2. My point is you clearly identified "swoopers" doing turns as the ONLY measure we can control. You very clearly indicate that "swoopers" are THE problem. Now that I've called you on it, you seem to be tap dancing around the fact that you said that the ONLY thing we can do to solve the problem is prevent SWOOPERS from doing 270s in traffic. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  3. Here, again, you're saying that the ONE way to stop the problem is to stop swoopers from doing 270s in traffic. Again, you're implying that the sole problem is swoopers doing 270s. How would preventing "swoopers" from doing 270s prevented the double fatality involving the student and military jumper? I don't know why you insist at pointing the finger directly at swoopers and not in any other direction. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  4. You mean 12,000 or was it a ballsy tandem? I believe he's talking about the airplane climbing out, not the jumpers climbing out of the airplane. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

    Boobies!

I just voted from my work computer and the home page showed only 14 votes for the little rat bastard. But if you clidk on the picture it shows over 2000. I smell a deception plan. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  6. Around 25 seconds of enjoyable freefall, assuming I follow BSRs. But I also hook a 270 riser turn around 200 feet, not 600+ Different strokes for different folks. I'm just assuming this post is fishing for a reaction cause this is just dumb. Even in a wingsuit, you'd be hard pressed to get 25 seconds of ff time between 3.5 and 2. Then if you're pulling at 2k in a wingsuit, that's a whole different discussion. Of course a 270 riser turn at 200 feet leaves you all kinds of options too. This looks an awful lot like generating controversy for the sake of controversy. Good luck with all that though! Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  7. What are you doing? Actually thinking to the root of the problem? What's gotten into you? Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  8. That is a very interesting concept and I like it. This kind of concept has helped me out a lot, both as a TI and an AFFI. I'm still relatively new to both, but fortunately at my DZ there is a ton of experience and people that are willing to help out. There is no formal "internship". However, I was "checked out" on training jumps for both AFF and Tandem prior to taking paying students. I always feel like there's somebody watching over my shoulder, watching my performance. I don't mean this in a bad way, it's a really good thing. I've received invaluable advice in both disciplines from instructors watching and evaluating my methods and techniques and giving me advice to try this or that. It has really helped develop me as an instructor. I like the idea of an internship. Of course, the other part of that is that the "intern" has got to be willing to accept constructive criticism to develop. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  9. Not lately. The AFFI rating has become so easy to obtain, and DZ's have been so willing to fire volumes of jumpers through a cookie cutter course that the overall skill of an "A" licenced jumper is pitiful. Does 400 jumps and 18 months in the sport make an AFF instructor? How about when 90% of said jumps are 4 way, or Freefly? What about when said instructor rarely packs for themselves and has next to no knowledge of the gear they jump? When they jump a canopy they are scared of, and yell at people for "getting to close to them under canopy". When they can be heard bitching about bad spots all day but never check it themselves? When they have already been seen charging coach students $50 a jumps for their "expertise". Most importantly what kind of students does that person turn out? In the current system they MAY be qualified to supervise someone through an AFF lever, but in NO WAY are they competent enough to train and produce a "Skydiver". Wow! All of a sudden I feel really, really good about our DZs student training program and what we provide the student. I also feel really lucky to be working with the quality instructors I get the chance to work with and learn from. I simply haven't seen these things at our DZ. Not saying at all that this doesn't exist elsewhere, just glad to be part of the staff at my particular DZ with, what I think is, an exceptional student training program. 10. Because merely answering the question could provide encouragement to go ahead. The question he asked is irrelevant, he just doesn't realize it. That's what some are trying to point out. Now it's been answered, but it's still irrelevant. I agree that the OP going on a student jump is a very bad idea based on what we know. eBay sniping

I always thought that was common sense. Especially with websites that charge a minimal fee to snipe it for you. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

It let me vote 6 times. Also I voted from the computer at work and the one at home. That's a total of 12 votes. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  13. That's the professional reply I would expect from Square 1. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  14. What exactly doesn't make sense? I read your post four times and I still have no idea what you're trying to say. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  15. I believe the closest one would be Lincoln Sport Parachute Club. http://www.skydivelspc.com/ Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  16. If you build a professional site on shutterfly, you set the price for sales of the photos. Shutterfly takes a set amount for each photo, but anything over that amount, depending on what you set for the price is your profit. Depending on the size and type account you set up, it is $100-200 per year up front for this type service. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  17. I don't think he was necessarily trashing their business, but rather letting them know through a complaint that they were losing (not lossing) his business because their website might need some attention on functionality. Look at it as customer feedback. I too have dealt with Square 1 and the only problem that I have is that I feel their used gear is way overpriced. But dealing with them I have always been satisfied. I just got a helluva deal on a brand new Katana through them and had what I consider perfect customer service. Anyway, I guess it's two different ways to look at it, but it could be a chance to improve their business. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  18. This thread is real old. It may have been moved or deleted from the home page. Here is the bulletin from the Icarus website. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  19. Well, if it was a birthday, you would be 1 year old and would continue to be until your second birthday. It's also 1 year's worth of experience. It's one year in the sport. That's what I think. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  20. I sold a 96 Javelin container that was in excellent shape with not a whole lot of jumps on it, hip rings, chest rings, bridle cover conversion, etc....for $400. I thought that was about right. I think $750 is too much. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

    who are they?

Being from Spaceland and having seen that exit hundreds of times now, I can give you an idea of the setup. Stevie (the surfer) sits in the front of the door facing the rear. Trent (the surfboard), stands in the rear of the door facing the front. Stevie hooks his right foot under Trent's cheststrap. On exit, Trent goes over the top and Stevie rotates under until Trent is on his back and Stevie is surfing on top. Jed, (camera flyer) launches from the camera step. They make it look so easy, but then again, they make everything look easy. I've come to the conclusion there's nothing they can't do in the air. Just watching Stevie shoot a tandem video is amazing. Oh, and top of that, they're top class dudes. Super nice, no huge egos. They'll help anybody with anything and you just never know when they're going to "join" your skydive unexpectedly. I've learned a lot and got a lot better just being around those guys. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  22. Yes, thank-you. My favorite is Eddie, hands down. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  23. That was like a minute of my life that I'll never get back. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  24. Maybe I could use the 294 mil to pay France to take this piece of crap back. As a matter of fact we ought to just make them take it back. Wait a minute, getting close to SC territory. Oh well, there's a lot of other things I'd do too, but that would definitely be the first move. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  25. My first move would be out of Lousyana....er....I mean Louisiana. Either way, I would so leave this cesspool in the rearview. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
