Confusing windsock direction and landing downwind
nbblood replied to sjc's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Funny thing about that pic is that the canopy isn't landing in the direction the wind sock and tetrahedron indicate. But that is definitely a tetrahedron. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
Confusing windsock direction and landing downwind
nbblood replied to sjc's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I worry more about the established landing pattern than I do the wind indicators. I watch the other canopies land and follow the pattern. If I'm the first down, then I pay more attention to wind indicators, but if there has been an established pattern all day, it is likely it will still be the same. You should know, or at least have a good idea, which direction you're going to land before you board the aircraft. Then it's a matter of confirmation by watching the pattern and indicators, but you pretty much know what you're going to do ahead of time. Have a plan. Get better quick, Shari!! Just an update: The night of the accident she had some sort of HALO device emplaced to hold things together. She'll be in surgery tomorrow to emplace the more permanent hardware. I must say that this is secondhand info from her teammates, but I happen to know one of them pretty well. We'll be thinking about you! Get well quick! Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Does anyone have any info on the Jet?
nbblood replied to Skymonkey13's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Oh, here we go again. If you really want to jump a jet, the best bet is to join the Army and go to Airborne School, then you might get to jump a C-141 if you're lucky. I'll believe they'll have a jumpable jet at WFFC when I see video of it on jump run, not a moment sooner. BTW, I believe the Perris jet is a DC-9 and it will probably be at WFFC. They flew it out there last year. I understand it did very well for transportation purposes, but no jumpy. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
Yes, but winning a decision and actually gettiing the money are two different things. In most of these cases there are additional incurred costs to file wage garnishment papers and such. In the meantime, they're renting from somebody else and guess what happens when the garnishment kicks in......repeat cycle. I also agree about some people's priorities. Funny how some people spend their money before rent becomes a priority. That really sucks, man. Hope it works out for you. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Ok what canopy should i buy from this list
nbblood replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I like the Vengeance from that list for longer recovery arc/lighter riser pressure (I have no experience with the Vision). However, I think it's also the one that's most likely to spin on opening. It really sounds to me like you're looking for a Sabre2. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
It's actually the Skydiver's Information Manual, and it's not just for those on student status. Welcome. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Yeah, they're open every other Sunday, if the weather is good, which gives them about 7-8 jumping days a year. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

What if you had to give up skydiving?

Mykel, It was good to see you back in the air again! Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
I can relate. When I started skydiving, my mental picture of an arch was to arch with my chest. I strained to arch harder but was really just making things worse. I finally realized that the arch is with your hips. The more you relax, the more you can arch. Try just standing and let your hips go forward and head back, then relax more and see how it allows your hips to move farther forward. I'm not saying that this is definitely your issue, but it may help you visualize a good relaxed arch. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Yep, I have. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
Yeah, but where's Jed been hanging out? He needs to get back out there! Early next month? How early? I'm off to Fort Campbell today, be back on the 6th. Then I'm on leave from 7-14 May. I'll be at Spaceland during leave but I may be just a bit preoccupied. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

I did say I was here, right? If she's looking for awesome freefliers, I guess the best we can do is Stevie and Trent. I guess they're pretty good, or at least they gave them those little gold medals at Nationals. If they're not available, I'm always there on the weekends. What time frame are we talking? Oh, and is that really big Norwegian in Norway??!! No, just kidding. Have her look me up. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

Major improvements in Skydiving gear in the last thirty years.
nbblood replied to TheDonMan's topic in Gear and Rigging
if you want comfortable try a racer with NONE of your items... I'll add wind tunnel training and design of RW suits. rm Um....no thanks. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
The Vengeance is not tame. It's not a Velo, but it is highly elliptical and performs as such. It is easy to get it in a diving spin if all is not right at opening. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

velcroless tuck tabs cut-in laterals hip rings chest rings deluxe back pads pull-out deployment I'm all about comfortable rigs. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. -
The Vengeance is not cross-braced. It is airlocked. I've jumped all these canopies. I'd recommend starting on the Sabre2. I just sold my Stiletto and kept my Sabre2 because I like it better. The Vengeance is a great canopy but often requires pilot attention. It is highly elliptical and kind of funky during opening. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

My first and only was around 750 or so. It was definitely due to complacency (rigging). It's a long story, but the bottom line is I failed to do a thorough line continuity check after attaching my main, resulting in a ride on a 3 day old reserve pack job.
