  1. I'm in the military, have been for fifteen years now. I have bachelor's and master's degrees from respected universities. However, over the course of my experiences, I've learned to judge people by their individual worth rather than their appearance, credentials, or stereotypes. Some of my very good friends are very liberal, some are conservative, some are gay, some are straight. If I had to pick conservative or liberal, I guess I would call myself conservative. However, I just don't think with the issues today I could classify as one or the other. I choose to determine where I stand on a particular issue based on my beliefs and determinations rather than the popular opinion of a particular group. There are many issues that I fall on the liberal side of politics. However, most of the most important issues to me I take the conservative side. So, to try and determine who is more intellectual between liberals and conservatives is very difficult. I just think that anybody that stands clearly on one side of the line or the other has not given all issues the consideration they deserve. Now, all that being said, I realize that this is just my take on all this and is certainly disputable in many aspects of the argument. So I guess this discussion serves to entertain us for a while, but really doesn't determine anything as far as which group is higher in education or more "intellectual". 2. Skydive Spaceland has three super otters and a 182. It is a world class DZ, the facilities and staff are first rate. It is a great place. After hours it's pretty calm, although there is usually something going on. Skydive Houston has an otter and I understand it is also a very good DZ. I've heard the night life is quite a bit more happening than Spaceland. Spaceland's jump prices are cheaper 20 vs 22. I guess it kind of depends on what you're looking for. I call Spaceland home for a myriad of reasons. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

  6. I paid $100 for the spacer foam backpad on my Odyssey and it is worth every penny! I think Aerodyne offers pretty much the same thing. Others I've seen I don't think are worth the extra $$. Just my opinion though. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  7. Many of the people from Ogden jump in Mesquite in the winter. Many of the Mesquite jumpers jump at Ogden. It's kind of a brother/sister DZ thing. Both DZs are great. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

    Blackberry

I just got a new Blackberry 7290. I'm feeling like I am way overconnected now. I'm the guy that refused to own a cell phone two years ago. Now I've got this device that "allows" me to send/receive email, keep my calendar, store detailed address information, surf the internet, and a ton of things I'll probably never figure out. It synchs itself to my computer information and allows me to be at work 24 hours a day. Is this device a good thing? Will I ever be able to sever the ties with this ball and chain? Does this thing have an "off" button? Really, though, this thing is pretty cool. I am somewhat concerned that I am way over-accessible now. I really do need to find the off button. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  9. I've got spacer foam on my Odyssey and I think it's the best $100 I spent. It's very comfortable. I'm spoiled now, I don't think I can do without it. As far as longevity, I've got about 350 or so jumps on the rig in a year and a half or so and no signs of any wear damage. Still as good as it ever was. 10. I have a Velocity open face that I jump most of the time, also a Bonhead Mindwarp camera helmet and a Z1 that I hardly ever wear. I just bought a Rawa camera helmet and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I'm sure it'll be the primary from now on. I like the velocity cause it's comfortable. The Mindwarp I'm not really crazy about because it's got the old external audible pocket which is a pain. The Z1 is Ok but I don't like where the audible pockets are. I like the Rawa design because it's sleek anti-snag design and the chin strap excess is covered as opposed to other similar helmets. More when I actually get it and can jump it. 13. Sounds more to me like you earned something and don't have it......really. I'm not condoning "purchasing" a degree, but I've got a bachelor's degree and a master's degree that I got the traditional, go-to-school-and-take-classes way and I'm not convinced that they offer what on-the-job experience offers. As a matter of fact I'm convinced that OJT is better in most cases. If I was an employer looking to hire someone, I'd be much more interested in actual work experience in the field rather than a degree. If someone offers a skydiving degree tomorrow, what is more credible the bachelor's in skydiving or the instructor that has been working at the DZ for 15-20 years? Just a thought. 14. This is part of the psycho pack. I believe Icarus used to recommend it, but I don't think any manufacturers recommend it now. Also manufacturers recommended in the past that if you were going to psycho pack that you get a connection point extension. This is because when you roll the canopy in this manner it traps the canopy connection point in the middle of the roll. Hence on deployment the tension pulls the connection point across the canopy material which could result in damage to the canopy. If you're going to continue to pack that way you may want to think about getting the extension. I don't think any manufacturers recommend this method anymore though. Others will probably give you more info on it. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  15. I can tell that women are more superficial by all the male strip clubs that are around. I mean they're only outnumbered like a thousand to one by the "Gentlemen's Clubs". Oh....wait a minute...... Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

    Runners

How long have you been running? Oh, I guess 20 years back to high school track team. Do you run competitively or just for health? Only for health and military life kind of forces me into it. In high school the basketball coach forced me into being on the track team. I actually dread running but have always had to do it anyway, but it does make you feel physically better. What is your favorite distance? From the car to the door of the house.....did I mention I dread running? Really though, anything 4-10 miles is ok. How many miles a week do you average? Unfortunately I'm averaging about 35 miles a week right now. (at least when I'm not in the field). 6-6-8-10-4 M-F. (Yes, today was 10 mile day...aargh) What shoes do you run in? I have Asics Gels too but I'm not sure of any more specificity than that. Odd I found this thread only a couple hours after the 10-miler this morning. My commander is trying to talk me into running the Houston Marathon and as much as I really don't want to, I don't want to disappoint him either. Guess I'll probably do it. Damn, I swore to myself I'd never do that. Oh, well. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.

  20. Is earth shattering a good thing or bad thing in skydiving?? :14:0 13 great freefly jumps and a tracking dive for good measure. Could have been more with a little help from the weather, but all in all, a good weekend. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  21. So, I've heard rumblings about a coach program you guys are implementing. Something about a certain amount for a day or two days. Is this true? Do you realize what you might be getting into with me? Seriously though, I'm interested. Any details? Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  22. Welcome. Personally, I love Skydive Spaceland for lots of reasons. But, I'd say check them both out. I'll be at Spaceland over T-giving weekend. Stop by and say Hi and make your first jump. Spaceland has a great second-jump deal too. PM me if you want to know more. Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  23. If I remember right it's in Munsari (Sp?) Here's a couple links to get you started. You'll probably have to find somebody to translate, unless you read Hangul. http://www.skydivingschool.or.kr/main.php http://www.kpa.or.kr/ http://www.koreaparachuteschool.com/ It took me a long time to figure out what the real deal was when I was over there. When I did I gave up. It took finding a number on one of these webpages and getting a Korean to call and translate for me. Good luck. 24. A few years ago I came across two golden eagles on some cliffs in Utah. I happened to have my camera with me. I took a whole roll of film with them on the cliffs and culminating with the two of them taking off. I had the perfect shots with a telephoto lens. The camera was a 35mm, one that you had to manually rewind the film. Later in the week I opened the camera without rewinding and exposed the whole roll of film. I'll never know how those shots turned out. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
  25. Good news: yes, there is a DZ. Bad News: They're only open every other Sunday, if the weather permits. They get maybe 10-12 days a year. Also, to jump there you need to join Korean Parachute Association which is 100,000 won or about $85. Then it's 100,000 won per jump, again $85. So the first jump will cost you $170. This information is from when I was last over there, about 2 years ago. Since then I don't know how gas prices have affected their operations. To me it wasn't worth the effort or money. I came home and jumped on leave. Anyway, good luck. Blues, Nathan Blues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute.
