  4. My most memorable instructor is Paul Janes from Skydown Skydiving in Caldwell, ID. (then again, he's the only instructor I've learned from). I was the only one there for the first static line jump and he tought me one on one for 4 hours, I learned a ton about the sport and he was very knowledgable and very cool. Plus, he has a bad ass dog. If you ever stop by in Idaho, I'd deffinately reccomend stopping by his DZ. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  5. I figure that I should share this story because maybe some of you were there, and otherwise its pretty entertaining... Two years ago my family and I were going on a road trip out west (I'm from Michigan) and we ended up stopping just west of Boise, ID to visit some family. From their back porch I could see countless jumps over a few days and it was torture because skydiving was something I'd always wanted to do and I was so close but the 'rents wouldn't have any part of it. So I told the parents that I was going on a bike ride and rode 11 miles until I got to the dropzone, and on the first glance I could tell that you guys are CrAzY! I'm 18 at the time, so the beer thing is new to me and the second I walk in the fence someone hands me a cold one. There's food everywhere (its the close of the day) and music and everyone's having a good time. All the sudden someone says 'Here they come!' and everyone rushes to the fence overlooking this field where a lone old car is parked. A plane flies overhead (cessna) w/ a helmeted head poking out, and he drops a bowling ball out of the plane and it smacks into the car! It was halerious, they made a few more passes, throwing paint cans, and even a toilet. I spoke with a bunch of people and I decided that the sport was deffinately something I wanted to be a part of. Later that week I made my 2 static lines at skydown skydiving in Caldwell, ID. The DZO's name is Paul and he is a great guy, he's got a bad ass dog too. Man that was great. This summer I'm finally getting a job which is going to allow me to afford to get my A, and I am extremely excited to do so. Anyway, if you were at a boogie near Boise, ID summer of '02, I saw you there! HA! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  6. Thanks for the response, I thought that I might have missed out on learning that mal but you helped me find out that I didn't learn the horseshoe because I was training static line, and we static fliers lack the required equipment. I'll keep that one in mind for my further adventures. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  7. Stupid newbie question, What's a horseshoe mal? Any pictures? --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  8. I've seen these things for rowing as well, and every 'better than sex' list always ends up w/ #n. Lets face it, its not. But I've only got 2 jumps so don't listen to me! --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  9. Ahhhh, thanks a lot. I'm sure there are tons of things that I'm going to need to pick up once I'm actually training on the equipment and not just dreaming about it. Until then, I'll just hope for sweet dreams. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  10. Ahhh, there's the question, Whats different between pull-out and throw-out then? (sorry for the newb ignorance) Its funny being ignorant again, but you guys take care of your newbs better than any other sport that I have been involved in. This community rocks. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  11. But still, even if the pilot chute is stored BOC, don't you have to throw it out to deploy? I'm missing the difference between the two. I'll consider buying that book too, It's prolly a lot cheaper than most of the books im used to buying. --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  12. I've been reading up on gear in preparation because I'm going to tackle AAF this summer, as I am a poor college student until I start my internship in May. I've been wanting to get my A since I did two static lines last summer. I am confused on a couple things though: 1. What is a BOC, and what is a throw out? 2. I've seen a collapsible slider on some videos but how does a collapsible pilot chute work, do you collapse it remotely? 3. Anyone want to donate a rig? (I'm 5'11" 155lbs, Aquarius, Likes long walks on the beach ) --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  13. Hey, thanks for the responses. I have to tell you that people that are in to skydiving seem to be much frendlier than any other rec sport that I have tried, you guys are awesome. But tell me, after your 8 levels of AAF jumps, do you have to pay extra until you get your A liscense, or do you get to just pay lift and rental? --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
  14. I'm New to this forum and sport, but I am excited about both. Sorry to tell the moderators but I'm a little more excited about the sport than the forum . I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the total cost should be if you are going through a reasonable AAF course. If you could shoot me an estimate, that'd be cool. There's a club here at my college and I am very excited to get into it, you guys have a bad ass sport. -Kyle --- and give them wings so they may fly free forever DiverDriver in Training
