The majority of skydiving helmets are definitely over priced and offer very little impact protection. Style and fashion seem to be the main consideration. If a company like Bell came out with a product for skydiving that complied with DOT or Snell standards I'd buy it.

I was of the understanding that when the CI signs off your A licence you are considered safe to do most of the above. Basic RW skills are assumed on the completion of your B licence training. (ie, in .au) If a skydiver reaches this stage and decides free flying is his thing and gets proper coaching in this discipline (FF) why should they be considered any less safe? If their attitude to safety suckes that's another issue. Proper training and information from competent instructors/tutors goes a long way.

Was anything else different, besides not having the ditter. Lower exit altitude, different DZ to usual? What sort of jumps were they, ie vertical or flat?

Re: [billvon] Fogged visor, hit power lines.

Nice plan. Preparation is definitely the key to survival. -
It depends on how you feel at the time. Skydiving is not the be all and end all of life. I'm in the fortunate position where my long term partner is also my team mate and a skydiver. I also enjoy plenty of other activities so if for some bizzare, improbable and unimaginable reason she asked me to stop jumping I would ask "Why?". If she gave me a good answer I'd probably stop jumping and take up Freestyle MX instead. Kiss my dogs arse.

Atom Harnesses have the Main ring located higher up the main lift web. Reverse risers are not a problem as this harness is designed to be compatible. If you fit these risers to another harness, like a Vector or Javelin, it is highly likely the reverse risers will not release if cutaway in a low drag malfunction, like a baglock, where the body is still belly to earth. The angle between the main webbing and the riser causes the reversed ring to press against the harness, thus locking the 3 ring system. This can be easily demonstrated on the ground. It's usually the middle ring that gets jammed. This is a problem that surfaced many years ago when some people chose to fit Atom risers to their rigs because they liked the idea of the velcroless brake set up. Kiss my dogs arse.

What kind of Mini-DV tapes do you recommend and/or use?
spottydog replied to scottbre's topic in Photography and Video
Exactly, I have used Panasonic, Sony and TDK DV tapes and they all work great. J.. Kiss my dogs arse. -
Have you considered the TRV22? For not much more $$ you get analouge to digital convertion which allows connecting of other devices, like a lipstick camera. Kiss my dogs arse.

The DZ I jump/work at offers DVD as the supreme option. It ain't cheap either @ $70 above the cost of a normal VHS video. DVD also makes more work for the dubber. cheers, The Dog. Kiss my dogs arse.

Tandem person shooting their own video?
spottydog replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
Handcam has become very popular with commercial Tandem only operations in Australia. From what I have seen most of these factories are charging the same price for handcam as having a real camera person do the job. The footage looks crap when compared to having a real camera flyer do the job. The camera is glove mounted, most likely on the hand used to take the passengers money. cheers, Spottydog Kiss my dogs arse.
