Good call man. I chickened out of my first A last night too. I got up to about 600' and the winds were probably 25 degrees off the wire and pretty light, so I decided to head back down and jump it another night when i liked the winds a bit better. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

I've done several WS rodeo jumps out of a CASA. Nothing too difficult, the rider has to control the CG, and the birdie can still fly pretty much the same as normal (just faster.) It's a great way to lead tracking dives, and the speed seems to be right about on par with normal trackers... just be sure to plan a safe breakoff. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWN! I'm sorry that I didn't see you yesterday to tell you in person. I was definately feeling that cake on sunday... waaay too much chocolate! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

I did a few wingsuit jumps with Gunnar at Zhills a while ago. He seemed like a really cool guy. Does anybody know when the show will air? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

I'd definately recommend the tounge switch for BASE purposes. I believe that you can take pictures faster by flicking your tounge repeatedly (but then I have some practice ,) than by biting. Also, it's hard to hold your mouth open through your average BASE opening, so you'll probably end up taking a picture on every opening with a bite switch. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

Has anyone here had any luck with padlock shims. They seem like a quick alternative to picking . Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

I'm a bit confused. What constitutes a "Session?" 1 day (20 jumps), or 3 days (Dec 27-29, 60 jumps)/ 4 days (80 jumps.) I am going to be in Wales Dec 27-29 for Collegiates. I will be competing for the first day or two, but I could definately commit to 20 jumps on the 29th (weather permitting.) Would it be possible to commit to a 1 day session? There was another thread in the "Events & Places to Jump" forum just a few weeks ago about Collegiates. I'll be there to compete in Swoop Sport Acc. & hopefully Freefly too. I'd love to try to get a big collegiate WS flock together. How many other wingsuit pilots are out there? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

Hey guys... maybe we can conspire to set the tents up in a swoop lane type fashon. Ohh.. wait, jake would just plow through it Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

I've got a Crossfire1-139 @ 1.15 in my wingsuit rig and I honestly think that the canopy doesn't perform too terribly well at that WL. A Safire at the same WL has significantly better opening and flight characteristics. I'm pro-rated on a safire and I think that it's a great canopy for most people and most purposes. ^ Bummer. I'll be there! Joey Costa is organizing & so far there are ~10 people pre-registered, so there should be some nice big ways! Seeya tomorrow! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

^Wow... at 2 seconds I would suspect that the wing is under very little stress, other than that of your arm pulling the fabric tight. Also I would suspect that the blowout would have a less pronounced effect at that airspeed than at WS terminal. I had a the leg wing blow out on my S.U.I.T. length wise down a rib seam on the topskin. The flight was slightly more squirreley than normal but still perfectly controllable. ^The dog is cute... seriously. Ohh, and I'll be at the DZ tomorrow afternoon too. All you fockers better show up to jump the PAC Ohh, and Dave & Marion, we'll finally get a chance to try "The Exit" Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

Ohhh oh, ME!!! I'll be there! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

Nice shot... but WTF is sticking out of his rig between his leg strap and PC? It isn't a bight of bridle, is it? WTF? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

^Tippy (name to be changed... consult Marion) is a very sweet pup. I think that she'll fit in very well at the DZ.... and she & Charlie would make a cute couple I heard about Joey losing his canopy in Chester. That's a really tough break... but I think he needed a good excuse to buy a new Dedalius PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Rumor has it that Paul is going to buy a PAC-750!!!!!!... That's right, a brand-spankin'-new purpose built skydiving airplane. Word has it that they're pretty comfy and fast! We will have one as our primary airplane all next week, so come and check it out!!! It's got a 750hp dash34& it'll get 17 jumpers to altitude in ~14 minutes on only 11gal. of gas! ^^ Wow... the media is really eating this one up. I wonder if he's going to get a tattoo of himself hanging from the wires to go along with all the other objects on his back? Ohh, and I'm suprized that Channel 13 is still mentioning how BASE is illegal at every opportunity... I thought that Jason B. had corrected them once already. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

^Ohh, I want one of those photos! How much was it? Darin> We still have 2 kiddie pools and a slip & slide underneath Marion's trailer. They should function well as kegerators for the weekend. Casey> I think BackFocker should be reserved for the camera guy... or maybe FilmFocker... who knows. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

Collegiate Nationals: Dec 27 - Jan 1 @ Lake Wales
eUrNiCc replied to negativeblue's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hello & congrads on making the trip to Collegiates! I'll be getting there on the 26th or 27th. Lake Wales is a really great DZ, however they're still rebuilding from the hurricane last year so I'm not really sure what sort of facilities that everyone should expect. Last year we made due with a trailer for manifest, the last hangar left standing for paid packing, a tarp for free packing, and a small bathroom trailer. This will be my second trip to Collegiates with the University of North Carolina-CH Skydiving Club. This year I'm hoping to compete in Freefly and Sport Acc, as well as doing some wingsuiting for fun afterwards. I'd definately suggest camping, just bring a warm sleeping bag. Last year was suprisingly cold for FL. Memorable experience: Last year I landed in the swamp right next to the camping area... I was lucky enough to stand up the landing, but stopming through the mud in booties is no fun either. Do: Have lots of fun, make lots of jumps, meet lots of cool people, beat some military teams. Don't: Come to collegiates to compete in Sport Acc. with like 3 jumps on your new Katana 107, decide to huck a 270 from about 300ft, and dig out just in time to save your femurs. Yes... this happened to a guy last year. He hit the ground hard enough to knock his shoes off. He limped away, but he had to drop out of the comp. December can't come soon enough. I'll see you all in Lake Wales! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age. -
This is really cool! Thanks alot!!!!! On a related note, this is the kind of stuff that would lend itself well to a Freefly-Wiki. Check out THIS link to the BASE Wiki that Jaap just started... very neat stuff. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

The Shoe-Vue (from bonehead) is pretty nice, however it's MUCH cheaper to make your own. You can get all the same fittings and parts (except the carbon toe cup) at a fraction of the cost of the BH from McMaster-Carr. Go to catalog page 2387. Good Luck! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
