I have a Cypres on my rig and definitely feel more comfortable with it but I still plan on jumping it when the Cypres goes in for service. Incidentally one of the senior jumpers at my dz, when asked about wearing a Cypres said he hasn't needed one in 41 years and doesn't plan on starting now.

The person who comes out to the dz and makes a tandem is not a skydiver. They're tourist passengers or cargo unless the tandems are part of a student program geared at obtaining a license in the sport. Being a tandem passenger does not make someone a skydiver anymore than making a thousand posts on dropzone.com does.

In NM, we have a small non-profit club and we have to pay a 6.375% local tax and a 3.275% airport usage fee tax. We're trying to figure a way to get out of it so we don't have to raise jump prices but so far, no luck.

Emailed Sunrise about getting a bigger D bag
dmddave replied to PhillyKev's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have to agree with you that Sunrise has great customer service. I sent them my rig for a few minor modifications after jumping it for a year and they did the mod's free of charge, gave me a free reserve repack and the whole process took less than 10 days from when I mailed it from NM. Also, Heather is so easy to deal with, I have nothing but good things to say about Heather and Sunrise. -
I happened to me once but nothing since. I'm using IE 6.0.

Good job Andi, I know you've really been wanting to get in on some competitve 4-way. Maybe you can teach me a thing or two when you're in Belen. I would definitely like to work on my rw.

Good job, that sounds like quite an accomplishment for those jump numbers. Great picture too!

I currently help run a small dz and we are definitely interested in another manifest program that will make everyone's lives a bit easier. Something with a/c and fuel management as well as keeping track of wear and tear on student gear would help us out a bunch if it could be done fairly cheap.

Excellent description, thanks.

Damn, you always post such good info here. THANK YOU.

Congratulations! My first is due in less than three months.

I use soft regularly and have never had a problem. My goggles fit fairly tight and even blew off once in freefall but my lenses stayed in, just had to squint pretty tight.

I quit eight years ago cold turkey. The first two weeks for me were unbeleaveable torture and the next two were near unbeleaveable torture. After about six weeks the cravings became bearable and it took two years for them to dissappear completely. The funny thing is that I still have dreams where I bum a smoke from someone, then bum another, then eventually buy a pack. The guilt in the dream for having started again is horrible and I am SO relieved when I wake up. Cigarettes are poison.

In New Mexico I pay $35, seems to be the norm around here.

Did anyone catch the show on Animal Planet this past week about predators? Among them was a peregrine falcon somebody had trained, and to show the speed a peregrine is capable of, they took the bird to 10k in a hot air balloon with a tandem master and the narrator acting as the student. The TM held a fake birdie in his hand and then dove off the balloon when the birds owner told him to. About five seconds later, the bird was released and the camera flyer was able to get a good picture of the falcon catching the tandem pair in freefall. The bird just lurked the tandem, hovering around the two, eyeballing his birdie toy. The TM's Pro-Track said they were doing 158mph whe the falcon caught them, they figured the bird did 180 to catch up. It's amazing that something with so little mass can reach those speeds.

My wife and I are expecting our first in July. Kinda exciting and scary at the same time, but it was planned and we are actually ready.

I quit smoking eight years ago and after, spent most of my extra money on road bikes and especially mountain bikes. Now the bikes are collecting dust in the garage I'm blowing too much $$ on skydiving. Well worth it though.

Congratulations! My wife and I are looking forward to our first in July. She does'nt jump but she gave up skiing/snowboarding this winter, although she still works out at the gym regularly.

That's hilarious, I just emailed this post to my wife.

Can you verify that a reserve-pack is good?
dmddave replied to justinbuss's topic in Gear and Rigging
You're exactly right, a rigger should ask for a manual or ask the manufacturer if he is unsure, which is exactly what the rigger I know and trust did. Also, does anyone know if there is any kind of continuing education for riggers to deal with all the new gear being produced? -

dmddave replied to justinbuss's topic in Gear and Rigging
I had a similar problem with my rig which I had repacked last week. My rigger, who I know and trust told me that the last rigger who repacked my reserve did several things wrong, among them being and improperly routed rsl and bridle. He said after talking with the manufacturer, that my reserve could have probably resulted in a horseshoe if deployed with the rsl. He also said after finding these problems that he contacted the previous rigger and the previous rigger wouldn't claim responsibility for the pack job. My rigger said the previous guy was probably an old timer and not familiar with my gear... some consolation.
