  1. Wow I wonder what its like in other parts of the country. In 2 years of packing mostly on weekends, I have made quite a bit mroe money in six months than i every did as a full time auto mechanic. It sucks at times, but if you are good, you can make up for it when you are busy. My best day was 97 and best weekend (3 day) was about 260. I also only pack for fun jumpers, Tandems and students are taxed and dont tip where I'm from. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

  3. Yo Larry!!! That 2" strap should be part or your kit so you can bust it out in front of Sonic and freak him out!!!! "Are you kidding me!!!" See ya at the DZ with my molar warrior for my weekend of packing!! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  4. Though I've never refered to it as "moving up", you are right, tandem is linear editing. And I would ask a videographer for a recomendation on a dvd burner cause the lacie I mentioned is not for use in tandem world. I think most of the guys at my DZ use a sony unit. 5. Maybe a valid point, but I don't think a good one. But I think I am going to upgrade to pro, simply to get a hold of DVDSP. iDVD is awesome, but I would like to mess with compressor and DVDSP to try to avoid using DL DVDs this year for our club video. 6. To sell Final Cut Pro? Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  7. Canopies are still just fabric and sticking. Every manufacturer makes canopies that turn. Its part of the game. Most are also very good at taking care of it. From my experience it is more noticable at lighter loadings. But it could also be one or more of the following: Harness, friction adapters, line trim, risers ect. 8. Having a dealer when something goes wrong is also invaluable. I used a crappy dealer once and almost got screwed. Our dealer stands behind everthing he does and everything he sells. Its nive to know you dont have to worry about those things. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  9. Well Im pretty sure I wouldnt want to jump with that thing halfway up my brake line. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  10. ohhhhh, smells like iMovie. I coulda used that a few months ago. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  11. Well I would suggest you move up to NON-linear editing I have a Lacie DL dvd burner that is awesome. It also has lightscribe which I have never used, but for DVDs it is great. But it is a firewire drive, and I dont know how that translates to PC users (if you are one). Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  12. No worries. Gotta represent! You know how it is. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  13. Its not just another skydive. I would not let someone of your experience go with me on a tandem. I dont have the experience yet in Tandem than I would want just anyone on a tandem with me. Like was said, 500 jumps is the norm, but it is up to the TI. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  14. Scalling doesnt work if you are trying to make a 135, 150 and 170 from a 107. But I have talked with engineers that said they have found no difference in making a 107 a 110 or a 135 a 138. Changing an airfoil 1% is a lot different than trying to go 20%. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  15. Most canopies are not "spinners". I know people woth thousands of jumps on "spinner" canopies with no cutaways. You learn to fly openings just like you learn to fly the canopy. You should jump the canopies and see which one you loke overall the best. I can sit here and tell you to buy a Xfire2, and then someone else can tell you why you need to buy a nitron, but it comes down to you. Get a hold of some of these canopies (if you are qualified to even jump them) and do some jumps. From that list I would say the "safest" one would be the Xfire because it is the biggest, and size/wingloading is the single biggest factor in canopy performance. Ohh, and its revocery ARC. 16. Im not sure about the factory, but the service centers here in the US do them for under $300. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  17. It's all about practice. I can't psycho pack for crap, never wanted to. But I can make the neatest S folds you've ever seen, even if its straight from the factory floor. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  18. You losing Joe's gear already? Good for you! But no I havent had the joy of a tandem cutaway yet, skyhook or no. Utah did talk my ear off about it though. (big surprise) Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  19. A little off topic, but try using screen capture shortcuts shift-apple-3 and shift-apple-4 rather than busting out the camera. Word up to freeflydrew! Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  20. Yeah, look at the money in my pocket and stop whining! Yeah they hurt, but it stops after a good 2 weeks or so into the season. And kneepads. Knees are worse than the hands. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  21. Packing is probably the thing that does the most damage to the average canopy. (One that isnt left lying in the sun like maybe a cutaway.) I have been told that sweat is the biggest reason for this. You will see patches on the area where most people but their knees during packing than anywhere else on canopies that have been around long enough to need a lineset or 2. But packing in and of itself does not harm the canopy. Sweat and dirt does. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  22. 65 of my 71 pack jobs on Sunday were for people who knew how to pack. And I am closing in on 10k pack jobs with out a malfunction. Sounds good to me. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  23. Here's what I got. The blue one has a 143 and a Safire2 139 Mine (not that hot a rig pic) has a 143 and a Crossfire2 119 in it. I now have a VX 104 in it, but no pics of that. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  24. Contact the Chicago service center. Para-concepts.com Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
  25. Yeah I got the 15" powerbook cause the 17" was too big. Now I am torn between getting a 20 iMac or a G5 tower. I would love the room to expand with the G5, but I wouldnt mind saving the money with the iMac, getting the intel chip, and waiting for them to introduce the intel towers. The preceeding is the only way Apple has complicated my life. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
