IMO he was within his rights to protect his property. ---------------- What kind of protection is that??? He's shooting up his car, and what would he expect to happen??? If you are shooting at someone in a car, would you expect them to calmly pull to the side cause you're shooting at him/her? Assuming that the goal is not to hit air with every shot, which was obviously not the case here, there are a couple of options: 1) You hit the car, just damaging it further than it would be if the guy made a clean get away 2) you shoot out the tire, which will probably make him lose control and crash your car that you're supposedly trying to save 3) you shoot him, and he crashes the car that you are supposedly trying to save The motive sounds good in theory, but is not practical. He was not "protecting" his property in action. When you talk about people having the right to bear arms, just like you said, CR, you have a responsibility to use that firearm responsibly...that means having the ability to think things out and deciding if you are, in fact, responding properly to a situation, or simply reacting. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

In Texas even if you are defending yourself from bodily harm, if you shoot and miss and hit someone else, YOU are liable. There are others, in which a theif get's his due, and the other person has maintained what I see as the moral high ground. If it were true, though, that it is either thiefs or vigilantes, I would still have to disagree with you. I totally agree that the actions of the theif or assailant are to blame, but it is up to us to be responsible for our actions, and putting value where it belongs. I'm sorry, but my friends and family are worth the lives of another, but I own nothing material that cannot be replaced. Just like the true test of a marriage does not come when things are all hunky dorey, nor does the test of true morality exist when everything is going your way. It is specifically in those situations where you have to make a split second decision that you will know who you truly are. It's a pretty sad commentary on human nature and our society when a material object is determined to be more valuable than a human life. Having an intruder in your house is one thing, or someone in the process of stealing from you...you don't know what they are about to do...THAT could be self defense. When someone is getting away, though, they are no longer threatening you...it is a vindictive attempt at taking someone's life because they pissed you off. So what, a rig, a car, $20, big fucking deal...it's not worth someone's life, and allowing people to believe that it's ok to take such drastic measures for something to trivial is going to take our moral standards by the hand and continue them on the walk down the low road...welcome to the world where vigilantes rule. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

Should have stuck with the "what he doesn't kno...." -------------- You say that now, but had you not told him, and he found out later, then you would have been saying, "I wish I had told you sooner." If you said nothing, and it really was a big deal to you, you may have always held onto it as the blemish in your relationship. It's best not to do it at all...second best is to be honest. I think you did the right thing considering the circumstances. Sex is one thing...but a drunken kiss? If you had a serious relationship and it were to have progressed possibly to marriage, you would have gone through times a hell of a lot more difficult than that. There were 2 things that could have happened...you get past it, or the relationship was over...either option is better than living with something like that between you.
