It was devastating, even from a child's perspective. Our neighborhood was spared but not by much. I remember seeing entire subdivisions pretty much flattened. You could see them from the road or highway - one home left standing in the middle of what used to be a brand new subdivision just like the one my family lived in less than 2 miles away.

LOL- the first picture would be my mom with us AT HOME in private! The second would be my mom with the teacher at the school- also most likely in private without us around! She had no problem going toe to toe with our teachers if she really believed they were in the wrong but she still held us all to a high standard in terms of grades and behaviour in the classroom. Bottom line- no one messed with her kids but her or my dad even if we were in the wrong. Discpiline was always a private family matter and she would NEVER shame us in front of a teacher or our classmates. That's just one of the ways she taught us respect.

My family was living in Louisville Kentucky at the time. I remember it well.

We didn't pie on 100's when I made mine. And I sure didn't get a hug or pack job. Only students had packers back then. The guy packing for me back then was an enabler for sure ........ I took a little grief for it from my friends but it sure was nice having someone else break in that brand new gear for the first 50 jumps or so!

I did not realize 100 was a pie-able offense! I got a hug and a free pack job on my 100th, and I bought beer!

Indeed! lol

No "worsts"- I love live music. Back when I was a kid, my dad took me and 2 friends to see Paul McCartney and Wings. Horrible seats above and almost behind the stage but I still loved it. I loved seeing him again at Wrigley Field a couple of years ago also. Other great shows? Ozomatli at House of Blues- love the smaller venue and those guys put on a great live show. Still, you know you are getting old when you make a point of getting there when the doors open just to snag a seat and the other people are getting their when the doors open so they can snag the spot right in front of the stage and don't mind standing for 3 hours before the show even starts! Mana - large venue, amazing show! I've seen them 3 times in the past 6 years. Worth every penny.

I don't think the US will even consider extradition until the final appeal has been heard. By that time, Rudy Guede (whose semen and bloody handprints were found inside and on Meredith Kercher) could very well be free, raping and murdering other young women.

The initial prosecutor was charged with misconduct relating to a different case. He has an interesting history. None of it makes sense to me. How do you charge and convict 3 people for rape and murder with 2 completely different versions of the crime and solid physical evidence against only one of them? If I was the victim's parents, I would be wondering how the guy who raped and murdered my daughter got such a light sentence. 15-16 years? For all we know, they will still be arguing appeals when he is released.

OK, let me be more clear- alcohol for the gift givers to drink! It's only fair!
-
After all the assorted showers I have attended in my life, I think I have earned the right to decline any invitation to a shower that does not include alcohol! Most traditional bridal and baby showers are pure torture on everyone invloved and only one person walks away with something to show for it! Assuming booze is served, the perfume bar sounds like it could be fun!

Mine drink from the bathroom sink but I won't leave it running for them all day. We keep the toilet lid closed when not in use!

petco sells one for about $20.00- their own "house brand" and it works just as good if not better than the much more expensive name brand fountains. My cats love theirs.

part Persian, part Maine Coon, part pig. Love the description! When my senior kitty had a thyroid problem, he would eat constantly and still lose weight. The medication was too hard on him so I had to send him to "RadioCat". That worked like a charm and in the long run was probably less expensive than keeping him on the thyroid meds. The worst part was leaving him there for 5 days but the treatment was completely non invasive with no side effects that I could see ........ Just a thought if Charlemagne stops tolerating the thyroid meds ......

I don't believe anything I read until I see it in the Daily Mail!

What a beautiful smile! I am sorry for your loss. -
your cat should definitely wear goggle when she skydives!
-
My niece has never made a skydive. She went to a party once where she did not know many people. Just for grins and without any warning, the host decided to introduce her to everyone as a skydiving instructor. She went with it and spent most of the night BSing about skydiving. I thought it was a pretty funny way to break the ice. Honestly, the pretend jumpers and wannabes don't really bother me. I do hate when someone finds out that I skydive and immediately tells the story about his or her best friend's neighbor's cousin who made a jump and his "chute" didn't open.

I was stuck at the Newark airport about a year and half ago waiting on a delayed flight. I swear I saw a woman nearly come to blows with a teenage girl who was using 3 outlets to charge her phone, laptop and ipod all at once. The lady wanted to charge her phone and there were no other available outlets. The princess wasn't about to give hers up ............

The newer cabins have water, electric and air conditioning. Did you have a chance to take a walk or drive through the rest of the campground? Some of those trailers are pretty plush. Not exactly "tent city".

Aww! Hope you heal up fast! So who made the turkey and all the fixins while you were stuck in the hospital? Isn't that normally your job?

Funny/Weird Things Your Parents Have Done For You?

I've got a ton of "Mom" stories. I really should write them all down! She's been gone 3 and a half years and like you, she is more on my mind this time of year. Holidays are hard. Take care of yourself this Thanksgiving and hold those good memories close to your heart! I had an aquarium when I was in Jr. High. If my mom walked past and saw a "floater" while I was at school, she would scoop it out, put it in a bag and drive to the nearest pet store to replace it, trying to find one that looked just like it! I never knew until years later. She didn't always do such a great job "matching" the dead fish, but it never occurred to me that she was replacing them so I just thought they were mutating! -
"Staff" here. He'll get over it but for now he is punishing you for leaving. In his eyes, you deserve it!
