the newer ibooks have slot-loading cd-roms, but the older style had a tray. It sounds like the drive in question is tray-loading, and he got it figured out. note to everyone: no, those little cd's don't work very well in slot-loading drives, hehee. I scared myself the first time i tentatively checked to see if the drive would take it.... spent about 10 minutes getting it out.

Chinese Chef is gloriously cheap, too :) Just stay away from the sweet & sour chicken... oh wait.. that shouldn't be a problem for you ;)

And, for what it's worth, Apple JUST updated the hardware in their laptops yesterday morning. More performance for either the same or less price than before. I love my ibook.... highly recommend getting a mac, the low-end ibooks are very usable, but I'd get the best that you can afford :)
