We have a couple of larger packing weights filled with cat sand that works very well at my dropzone. As long as you sew it neatly and use dense enough fabric it should work OK. The negative side is that they are too large to conveniently travel with. Lead weights have a tendency to be too heavy or too small i find, still it is what I mostly use since they fit in my rigger's bag.

Another method of adding a stop to the chest strap is to sew a coin into the end of the strap. This would be for a double layer chest strap. It seems to do the trick without making the strap too difficult to route through the friction adapter. I am curious to hear if any other riggers or users have come across this and can share their experiences. I am aware that the method might not be "officially approved" though.

For what it is worth, two weeks ago we brought weight belts with lead as carry on. It was Ryan air (stockholm-stansted and vice versa) and it went fine. They were curious for sure but had no real problems with it. I think they have experience with scuba divers carrying lead weights as well... /Jens

In Sweden: Weather permitting, these dropzones operate during the winter. I think all of them are weekends only this time of year. I'd recommend you dropping them an email before you arrive, to make shure they operate that day.
