  1. I suggest getting a larger slider from PD. I had consistantly swift openings on my Sabre 170. After eliminating as many packing variables as possible, I finally decided a larger slider was needed. As a result, my openings are soft, but don't snivel. I can now watch my canopy open. Even doing hop-n-pops it opens in a satisfactory way. Good luck! -Rap
  2. I see your point, however, one could argue that the more people sponsored (within reason), that the more exposure the brand gets. The more exposure, in theory, the more sales, which in turn, lead to larger production quantities, which lead to lower production costs per peice, which in theory relates to lower costs to the consumer. I also think that most businesses make sponsorship a part of total business equation. They do have limits, but I have no problem with someone earning their right to sponsorship. So I guess to answer your question...I do not have a problem with people getting sponsorship for their efforts. -Rap
  3. Hey Jumper71! Was the naked ride in the Mustang before or after I called you from cold Vermont? I believe the temperature was -20 f! Ouch, very cold. -Rap
  4. The biggest problem with using ski helmets over traditional skydiving helmets is that Ski helmets are bulkier and not low profile. As in, a helmet made for freeflying is low profile leaving little edge exposed to the air. I say go for a ProTec until you can save enough for a helmet designed specifically for skydiving. ProTecs aren't low profile either, but they are a hell of a lot cheaper than a $100 ski helmet. Good luck! -Rap
  5. The Malone Parachute Club at Plattsburgh will be holding its 32nd annual Last Supper banquet in Plattsburgh, NY on Saturday, December 20th. Email info@maloneparachuteclub.com for more details. All current and old time jumpers and their families are welcome! -Rap
  6. The closest you will get to a site devoted to Alchemy is www.freeflytrainingcenter.com or www.freeflytunnelcamp.com. Both are not really for team Alchemy but most of the team is closely associated with those sites. You will see when you go to them. For purposes of reaching them, the sites are effective. Rap
  7. Each country can send the top three finishers per event to the world meet. So in essence, Alchemy and the two Arizona teams from Nationals could have gone. Unfortunatly, our country does'nt sponsor teams the same way other countries do. It costs a lot to go! -Rap
  8. Check out the World Skydiving meet in France, at omniskore.com. Great Action! -Rap
  9. Please Understand, that message from RWS was sent to me personally BEFORE the mandatory testing on ALL pins. Now the official recommendation is that ALL pins are to be tested, regardless of what rig they are on. I was hoping to catch that quote before it spread due to its recent inaccuracy. So, regardless of rig, get your pin checked. Thanks. -Rap
  10. I apologize if the email I posted from RWS to me seemed as if it was coming straight from RWS. It was sent to me by RWS, but was sent before the mandatory testing. At the time the information was correct, but in 4 days it has changed. My intent was to spread factual information that was personally sent to me BEFORE the most recent Mandatory Test was announced. It is solid advice to question everything you read on the internet especially when a safety issue is at hand. Again, I apologize if anyone thought that my post was an official post from RWS, it was not... TEST YOUR PINS. please. -Rap

  14. Chris, just call RWS and they will give you a suggested size. If you are average in height, go with 21 inch risers. -Rap
  15. Go with a Sony DCR PC9. The best for jumping! -Rap

    Sit flying

Learn to sit before spending too much time on your head. One must learn how to crawl before they can walk. Goodluck! -Rap
  17. As an experienced flyer in a sit and instructor. Here's a no-nonsense answer to your question. Try getting your legs farther apart, as in, spread out more to the side when you are in your sit. You still want the "90 degree" end in the waste and knees as a neuteral position, but with the legs to the sides more, you will have less drag towards the front of your body. Good luck! -Rap
  18. I have a question to the more experienced camera flyer out there. Let's suppose you have a bag-lock situation or spinning canopy where the risers are twisted up. What is the proper procedure to consider when cutting away. I'm not talking about the actual action of cutting away and deploying your reserve. I'm talking about the possibility of getting your head "ripped off" when you release your main and it gets snagged on your side mounted camera. Should one release the chin strap first, then cut-away? Thoughts? Thanks. -Rap
  19. Thank you Chris for sharing this with all those that were there in spirit. Blues, -Rap
  20. What you are looking for are type 17 mini ring risers. You can order them from all rig manufacterers. Here are prices that I recently looke into: Relative Workshop: Type17, mini ring, stainless steel, riser inserts, Tru-Lock toggles and hard cable housings. $145.00 Mirage Systems: Type17, mini ring, stainless steel, riser inserts, velcro-less toggles and hard cable housings. $130.00 Your best bet is to get them from the manufacterer of your rig. The length depends on your rig size and your individual reach. -Rap
  21. Brian completed 2 cross-braced airlocked canopies a few years ago now. Mike Swanson placed about 1,000+ jumps on both of them. Those are the yellowish ones in the pics on Brian's site. Currently, Mike has one of those and his younger brother has the other. Both are still flying exceptionally great. Brian wasn't completely satisfied, so he made some more mods and Mike has another set that he has been test jumping all spring. Of course, Brian was still not comepletly satisfied and has made some more canopies with more mods. Last time I spoke with him he was in the testing stage and is hoping to release the new canopy soon. Once he is perfectly satisfied with the design. It really is amazing to see how he tests the canopies and how much time goes into them. Stay tuned. -Rap
  22. Although my post numbers are relatively low, I was first logged on and contributing to the site in May of 2000. My first gear review is dated May 16, 2000. Wow, that was a long time ago... -Rap
  23. Chris, how much did you pay them to model the shirts for you? -Rap
  24. I did about 150 camera jumps using a JVC GR DV1. Basically, this was one of the first small cameras and a lot of the early freeflyers used this camera. It was okay as an inexpensive way to see if I liked flying camera, but there was a lot of tape flutter (I had that thing taped up well). The Sony's are far superior in picture quality. That alone is reason enough to use them. -Rap
  25. The Vector-3 M-series is the same design as the Vector-Micron, but the M-series is for larger canopies. The toggle keeper design on the Vectors is far superior than any other design I've seen. The rigs really stand up to the about jumpers put on them. Customer service is personal and prompt. All of the little details are incredible. Thouroughly amazed. -Rap
