100% Jersey (exit 11) After that, irish, german, italian, whatever. American!

Hey, why stop there? Those parents are being discriminatory and partisan by excluding the 5 dozen or so other candidates for president. Maybe the teacher can do an arts and crafts project where the kids bury a picture of Kerry in with those others running, "Where's Waldo"-style. Here's a list.

Hey thanks. These look great. I didn't know about the 'dice' one.

Yes I can get to Google. But, what are some really good job boards on the web for finding and recruiting skilled database admins and analysts out there? (ie., Oracle, MS-SQL Server, DB2, Informix) I've found a few, but what does this industry and its pros consider to be the best ones? Some are free for posting jobs and some cost, so I'd rather cut to the chase. Thanks in advance everyone!

This one's my favorite, regarding the wall that Israel has been building: In Nov 2003, in a speech to a Palestinian advocacy group, he openly came out in opposition to the wall, dubbing it a “barrier to peace,” and criticizing Israeli leadership for “derailing” the peace process. But then in Feb 2004, in an interview with the Jerusalem Post, Kerry asserted that the wall, "continues to be a legitimate act of self-defense” Was this a legitimate changing of his position based on new information, or was it pandering based on his audience? His track record leans me to the latter.

They were sooooo close to getting Squeeze to link back up. Thanks a lot Jools Holland you pompous ass. His attitude was all like "oh, I'm so popular now with my own show in the UK, so no way I'm taking a step backward." Idiot, one big reason your show had a chance to be popular is because you used to play in Squeeze!!! That's probably why Conan O'Brien likes having Max continue to tour with Bruce, because that way he has Bruce's drummer, not Bruce's ex-drummer...

As my sig notes, the will ferrell/christopher walken blue oyster cult cowbell skit. "Fellas, I'm tellin' ya, you're gonna want that cow bell..." And of course the "Oops I crapped my pants" commercial. "Because I'm wearing them... And I just did..."

MMmmm... Carl's Junior...

Of TNG, favorite is "Deja Q". The one where Q is kicked out of the continuum and hangs out (ie., hides) on the Enterprise. Actually any episode with Q in it was pretty darn good.

Not quite. With the 2000 Census shifting more EC votes towards the south and west, Bush2000 states gained, IIRC, 13 votes. NC at 14 would then have tied it again. Others might fall short. I think it still comes down to Florida in a tight one - winner take all. Ah, I knew there was some shifting, but didn't know it was that much. Then my general point is that since 2000 was razor-close, and the left seems a heck of a lot more energized this time, just flipping a mid-sized state or so may be all it takes. And then, imho, if floridians leaning toward kerry don't come out in droves and set all kinds of records in voter turnout this year, they only have themselves to blame.

You got a point there. First it war about WMD, then it was to free the Irakies, then it was about terrorism, and now it seems to be something else.... Really? Going to war must only have one reason? Seems to me if we're going to battle, it better be as the last resort, it better be because not going to battle is in the long run a worse alternative, and there better be lots of reasons.

New News: Olympic Committee voted Skydiving down (again)
jimbarry replied to ltdiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What are you talking about? Soccer is extremely popular in the US, maybe even the most participated sport. Up until around the age of 12 or 13, that is. Also remember that the word "soccer" comes from Football Association (Assoc, or "soccer") from ENGLAND, dude. thank you very much... Plus, why is it that the world has such a problem with soccer (football) not being a major sport in the US? so it's not. so what? americans don't seem to have a problem with it being a second-tier sport here. why should anyone else? -
Then can i jump in here to say that i'm one republican who thinks kerry will win? Seriously! The thinking is that if Bush wins Bush2000 states, and Kerry wins Gore2000 states, and just flips one medium sized state (say NC) then Kerry wins!! Ok, maybe not NC, cuz i'm hearing that it's leaning Bush. But then Gore lost Tennessee too (which if won would've made Florida moot, so, so much for Moore's claim of republican "rigging".) Or just *one* swing state that went to Bush in 2000 and Kerry's our man. I agree with quade that both sides may be more fanatical than in 2000, but seems to me this behavior is more pronounced on the left. And I agree with keith that Bush has alienated a lot of more moderate republicans with his recent policies and proposals (immigration, environment). I'm in that column. Not so much to vote for Kerry tho... Add it all up and it seems we'll be listening to "Lurch" and his state of the union speeches for the next few years.

...and of course, the path of destruction of a hurricane is only as wide as those black lines there.

It's going to be tough for libs to complain and still remain logically consistent. Because lately they've been heard to argue "Well, what about N Korea?? he's a worse dictator and already has some of the worst wmd there are?" I realize the premise of this movement is missle defense, but I doubt that liberals in the US nor the N Korean gov't will see or spin it that way.

my bad. just wanted to add some perspective...

yeah? betcha woulda been cooler and excellent-er to let the family members go at the punk with a bat and a pair of needlenose pliers. the image of it starts makin' me feel better already...

Like many other questions, the answer is probably "depends". It depends on the situation, location, audience, purpose, medium. For me, most of the time it just means the writer was too sloppy to care enough about the reader to do it right. On IM, who cares, but on a resume, I just say to myself "This yahoo had 1,000 chances to check this thing out and didn't." The funniest are the ones where the error is on store sign, in a newspaper, on CNN, or some other inexcusably stupid or expensive place.

Whoa, can hardly believe that left any scar at all... i actually talked myself into not heaving by somehow convincing myself "it's only photoshop, it's only photoshop..."

Without cheating, how many posts do you think you have?
jimbarry replied to Conundrum's topic in The Bonfire
150 (ed after checkin': D'oh) Well... do Speakers Corner posts really count anyway? -
And neither did I. I said "weakened", which isn't necessarily weak. Plus, I was replying specifically to PJ. Fwiw, I have mostly agreed with what you've had to say in this thread (except for the parts that seem a bit emotionally overreactive, but that's just imo.)

Ah. If the military were more like you believe it should be (with your depth of experience building military forces), then it would be stronger, and better, and more "palatable". Got it. You should share your ideas on reshaping the DoD with your congressman. After all, why sit there and tolerate a weakened military which could be a lot stronger if only they would implement your ideas. An army of rugged individualists. Can't wait to see it. (ed: for spelling)

For a guy I usually agree with, and one who spends a lot of electrons on this forum vigorously defending america, the 2d ammendment, our rights, and our privileges, who we should fight, when and how, this little rant of yours quite frankly makes me sick. What you described *is* damn close to what military service is. Yep, you have grasped it pretty well. But it is not punishment, it is sacrifice. The best way to defend and deter our enemies is to provide a military made up of a group of people and equipment who work as a team. You can't build a military out of individuals operating as individuals. But giving yourself up completely to your country for a few years at the least is what many of us feel is an honorable way to give back and help pay for what we enjoy. Yes, that means that your precious little hide and individuality may be hindered or killed. Freedom is not free. I love my country and my family. I'll fight (and possibly die) for them. Americans have the right not to serve, and they have the right to kick the military all they want on how they operate. Just makes me sick. "I want all the good stuff (that others died to give me), but no way I'm putting my ass on the line or giving up my body piercings." Please.

A 16-year old girl is dead because of these two reckless scumbags. The sentence is creative, but hardly "cool" or "excellent".

Kerry supporters rip up 3 year-old girl's Bush/Cheney poster
jimbarry replied to tunaplanet's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes, that was me, but no sorry, these statements are not in conflict. Just because free speech should be allowed doesn't mean that some jerks out there aren't going to make it tough on people, and little girls. I mean, why do banks put money in a vault? After all, it's illegal to steal it, so it should be perfectly safe sitting on the sidewalk, right? (I just thought the phrase 'free speech zone' sounded funny, that's all) So, you throw out a "he coulda" and now what, we operate on the assumption that your conjecture is the fact? Glad you read the part where I said "he coulda", because that usually means that what I'm about to say next I'm not presenting as fact. Bottom line, the dad was perfectly and legally justified in bringing his daughter there to that confrontational location and holding that sign when he was too chicken-shit to do so. *And* for all practical purposes this was a pretty stoopid plan. He used his daughter as a human shield. Again, this is my "conjecture" and not fact.
