New Guy getting stationed in Germany
zoobrothertom replied to DustinGI's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Yep, me too. I even had to wear water wings for a few jumps because of a pond across the runway. When I pointed out that I had more jumps than other members, they let it slide. Cheers! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
18 in jump school and then first skydive at ft. Lewis, WA a week before turning 19. Like Wendy, I've been on a break for about 10 years now due to family and the money ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

New Guy getting stationed in Germany

The British Army also runs a dropzone somewhere around there in Patterborne. It's listed under British Army of the Rhine if you google it. Good luck! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Hey, Wendy! Nice short flick. I love the way you used the old 'From Wings...' CRW songs! Some of our younger CRW Dawgs got a good history lesson there. Keep it up and jump until the sun goes in! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

A new Skydiving talk show would you listen?
zoobrothertom replied to DiverStump's topic in The Bonfire
Hey, Stump. Give it a shot! Maybe keep it to 30 minutes or less for the first few episodes. Throw out a few short segments and see how your audience reacts. This will give your audience a chance to give their input on where they would like it to go. So, sign me up! Anythng politcally incorrect gets my vote. QuoteFWIW I think discussing manoeuvres when you haven't jumped, is like discussing your favourite sexual position with a virgin. reply] I once dated a skydiving lady with gymnastic experience. She could reach over her shoulders in freefall and grab her toes. Now let your mind think dirty thoughts.... ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

On my first custom flite-suit in '84, grippers were an upgrade only for the knee/calf area in kind of an S-curve. I think you could get arm grips, but suits were easy enough to grab by then if you couldn't get a wrist. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Skydiving cats. Have we talked about this before?
zoobrothertom replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
I remember that Skydiving Magazine ran an April Fools Day article called "National Cat Catching Championships" sometime in the 80's IIRC. Is this from the same guy with the radio show? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -

List of Jumpers I Should Have Heard of...?

A lot of military jumpers will never forget Paul Rafferty. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Quite right! Any young skydiver should be honored to have Pat's signature in his logbook. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

B-17 & other cool jump ships
zoobrothertom replied to pilotpilot's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Replying to all of the above... I only saw a B-25 listed for two folks. I've had two B-25 jumps out of two different planes. One of them was the Silver Lady and the other was the Blue Dog. Anyone ever launch a 2way out of the bombay of a B-25 besides me? Another cool jump was from a Sikorsky Sky Crane. I got 3 jumps out of the boxcar at 10K jumping into the 82nd club in the early 80s. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
The good 'ole airborne PLF has saved my butt way too many times. I, too, treat every landing as a PLF with feet & knees together until my flare tells me it's standupable/runoutable. Back when I was an active jumper, I watched too many jumpers come in with arms and legs everywhere unable to do a PLF if they suddenly needed to. On landings, do your best but be ready for the worst. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

John, I arrived at SDH when the memory of her passing was still well known. The CRW dogs filled me in on the tragedy and the memorial bench. I know Tim was really affected by her death. I used to sit on the bench some Saturday evenings after a long night around the bonfire and contemplate the sky and her message before heading off to bed. Even some of us who didn't know her recognized the loss among those who did. Thanks John. I vote for #3. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Bird Base Blues Bros..& THE CATERPILLAR FROM HELL
zoobrothertom replied to faller's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Joey, You told me that story at lakewood in '83 when I was a student. I still tell that story to others around the bonfire sometimes! I knew it was you less than halfway through the story. P.S. I was the USMAPS student jumping the Starlite in a blue Starlite container back when Joe Alter lived there. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Me, too. Sitting on all night CQ in the army. Drowsy as hell. Suddenly, found myself looking straight down at the roof of HQ directly over my position and at about 100' up! Scared the shit out of myself. Zippppped right through and back into myself in a flash. No sleep that night!! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Damn, couldn't name all those capitals. Got all the others. Shit, I'm getting old, too. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Thanks! That was a lot of fun to read. Good memories. The ones we can still remember, that is. I got my NSCR in '85 but never sent in for the patch. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
