Hey Don! Good to see you posting here. You might remember me as "Whit" Garrison from the 82nd club. We treked up to Ft. Campbell a few times as mentioned above. If I recall correctly, we jumped a little bit together when you were at Ft. Bragg. Around that time you had a cover (?) photo in Parachutist of a sunset landing. You're time at Bragg seemed to be rather short. Did you PCS out suddenly? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

India Graduates Millions, but Too Few Are Fit to Hire
zoobrothertom replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Amen! I live in Korea and live this nightmare of rote memorization without active thought on a daily basis. I've meet dozens of young engineers that can't identify or use most handtools much less any powertool more complicated than a drill. Changing a flat tire? Not a chance. What's ironic is that the older folks are sharp. It's the test score generation that's coming up short in the creativity department. Time after time, I've been in a situation where a western class of 1st grade students would be jumping all the answer and not afraid to be wrong. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Scary stories from the old days?
zoobrothertom replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Nope, not an April Fools joke! It starts as a stack. The top guy decides which half of the center cell he wants. With a little bit of brakes from the bottom to take off the line pressure, he then goes in slowly feet first. That's about all I know judging from my memory of the photo. Some of those old 1:1 nylon squares had big cells! I would say it was taken in the late 70's up to about 1982 or so. I was newby when I saw the picture in a book or magazine. Anyone have any more info? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Scary stories from the old days?

Anyone have photo of that? I recall seeing a published picture years ago of a stack with the top guy inside the center cell of the lower chute. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -

Break off altitude doing downplane
zoobrothertom replied to blagogada's topic in Canopy Relative Work
With F-111 7 cells you can get under a 100 feet with a slower terminal velocity than ZP canopies. I've done it many times. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -

Any thoughts on this - My several intentional cutaways were done with a BASE rig worn underneath my skydiving rig and D-Bagged out the door. The BASE rig had a normal cutaway handle with a pullup cord tied to it for visibility in case it slid under the main lift web. Our team used this quite often. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

What a deal! I paid $500 for my used system in 1982. Same setup. God, the openings were hard and fast! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

This is one my old friend Grett Dalton (RIP) used to say. He was a Cobra pilot and skydiver. No shit! There I was, out of ideas, altitude and airspeed. One was turning, one was burning and I knew I was upside down because my air medals were dangling in my face! At the 82nd Airborne Parachute club when he was DZ Safety Officer, his mandatory safety briefing for the experienced jumpers was, "Okay now, you up jumpers listen close. Ya'll be safe now, ya hear?" ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Joining a CRW Team - Is this normal???
zoobrothertom replied to Orygun's topic in Canopy Relative Work
Thanks guys (and gals) for one of the funniest CRW threads in a long while. Here's one from a long time ago..... "Hey, Asshole." "What?" "Pull this now!" "Fuck no! I ain't pulling your cutaway!" "Look up asshole." "Oh, our pilot chutes are wrapped." "Yep, you can pull it now or I can pull it later!" ........ Conversation from a side X side around 1984... (edited to add) @ around 1800 feet ... Hang in there CRW pup! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
thining of the old days....long past
zoobrothertom replied to chuteless's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Bill, don't give up yet, you old coot! Have somebody grab you a MP3 player and a microphone. My father and mother-in-law are Korean and lived through the war as teenagers. My kids are only 6 and they won't be around long enough to tell them stories. I grabbed a good mic and have been recording their stories in Korean and English for future generations. Give it a go. Talking is easier than writing! Best wished mate! I love your stories! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
In a recent survey, 9 out of 10 men who have tried Camels ......... prefer Women! That reminds me of a camel joke.... There was a Foreign Legion colonel assigned to a distant post in the dessert. He was the new commander there, and his first sargent was showing him around. This was a truly desolate place. The colonel asked his sargent what the men did, when they were in need of a woman. The sargent said follow me. They walked around the back of a building, and there stood this huge female camel. The colonel took one look, and said, "I can't believe that anyone would resort to that!" Well, the weeks passed, and this mangy-old camel started to look a little better to the colonel. One day the colonel decided to give it a try. So, there was the colonel and this camel, doing the wild thing. About then the colonel's company of men came marching around the corner. Everyone stopped stone still and stared with disgust on their faces. "What in the hell do you think you're doing," said the sargent!" "I'm just doing what you told me," said the colonel. "No! No! No!", said the sargent....."We ride the camel into town!".......... Steve1 and monkycndo You guys talk too much about big camel dicks!

Do you know where your jump aircraft is?
zoobrothertom replied to Guru312's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Already happened. The FAA switched over to a plastic license instead of the old paper. I found out by accident here on dz.com and just made the cutoff window for renewal. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
