  1. QuoteWho did low pulls....nobody I ever heard of... ----------------------------------------------------------- "I didn't pull low." "Yes, you damn well did. When you pulled, I could count all the fingers on your left hand!" "Oh, okay. So, next time if I make my left hand into a fist it's okay?" Bill Bright(ness), BASE jumper and Skydive Houston CReW Dawg, discussing his 'maybe' low pull with the DZO on a lazy Friday afternoon. Oh, it was low alright. The ants were scattering on this one.
  2. Wow! I finally checked back in to see who posted. There's some good stuff in the posts above. I have no problem exiting with or without airspeed at 2000 ft. I've done both. I do think learning or jumping regularly from a Cessna played an important before AFF. I took a girl on her 100th jump for a rodeo ride. She was an AFF grad and had never pulled below 3.5k. She was rather hesitant to jump with one of the CRW Dawgs. Once convinced, on the ground, I taught her how to swing onto my back. On the jump I started tracking and she really got into it. As we went through 3K, I started waiting for her to freak out and kick off. No such luck. She was totally into it and un-altitude aware! At 2.5, I rolled her off and watched her pull with a big "OH SHIT" look on her face. Priceless. Shortest canopy ride from a terminal velocity pull for me skydivng has been about 15 seconds. Not hero material, but definitely fun!

  4. Oh, what the hell! Download the sim and memorize the thing. Think up as many "loaded" questions as you can and put them on a note card for your first jump course. The instructors won't know what to do with someone who knows the SIM better than they do! Have fun! Blue skies ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  5. Hey Nuts (hey, that was fun to say without getting slapped!) If I'm not mistaken, your Aussie parachuting association membership is valid over here. Check wihh uspa.org. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  6. Hey Adrian, Congrats on making your first jump into the skydiving world! About what package to buy, just ask one of the instructors to explain the pros and cons of each package. Don't worry, those "tricks" take a lot more jumps than a package deal! Next thing you know, you'll be a skybum like the rest of us! blue skies ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  7. F#%@ing spell checker locked up! So, here it is again. Just a thought. Should we compare low pulls from the 'old daze' vs. swooping fatalities today? Have the new studs of the sport traded low pulls (unbeknownst to them) for swooping to get the same thrill? If you've been jumping more than a few years, you've pulled low occasionally. I'm comfortable pulling at 2K when I have to. Also, not uncomfortable when I have to pull at 1500' because someone got over my back without lookig down.! I was fortunate to learn back in '82~83 from the old timers who ocassionally waved me into a 3 way at 2300 feet. Dock around 18~1900 ft, break, staggered pull and sitting in around 1300' ready to chop and pull if need be. So, we can't do that any more (except Friday afternoon) without getting gounded for 30 days. So, what do you think. Have our newbies gone swooping because they're taught that low pulls are verbotten? 8. Hey Cirrus1ag, thanks for posting. I always wondered why Bill Arnot was so eager to let us jump his plane when we visited Corpus Christi in '85. I never knew that our team had jumped it the year before as well. Chris was definitely a 'unique' individual. I can still remember docking my canopy on him for a two stack over Raeford with him sitting on his slider! We broke off just before landing and he flared his canopy with a firm grip on his brake lines! I learned from him how to do half a back flip in my harness and hook my ankles in the risers. Hanging belly to earth and then flipping forward as you flare was a rush! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  9. I'd go with the beer and pizza! Show up in the late afternoon on Saturday with a couple of cases on ice and hang around for the nightly party. It would make a much more lasting impression and you would get to know the DZ staff and regular jumpers a lot better. Have fun!
  10. "Got a copy?" Nope! Can you post it?
  11. Of course, eating cheese has always been a popular activity in the military. It's synonymous with brown nosing and kissing ass. The difference between kissing ass and brown nosing is simply a matter of depth perception.
  12. Another version goes... "No shit, there I was at 2000 feet out of ideas, altitude and with lots of airspeed..." or for pilots.. "One was turning, one was burning and I knew I was upside down because my air medals were dangling in my face!" ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  13. Yep, kiss passes don't happen as often nowadays. Of my many kisses, one of the most memorable was over Lauterbrunen, Switzerland in 1990. After jumping on the slopes and skiing all day, we loaded up to jump back into the valley. A cute German girl and I were going to freefly the base for a 4 way. We exited at about 10K over the valley and immediately hooked up. At that point, she pulled me in and we started some serious spit swapping! Pulled in so tight, we were smoking! Despite having exited with us, the other 2 jumpers didn't catch us until about 6K when they forceably broke our grips! On the ground, my wife asked my why it took the other jumpers so long to catch us.... ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  14. For Christmas, we should all chip in and get you a white shotgun to lean against your tent at the DZ! I'm hoping my twin sons follow on for third generation jumpers. My Dad was airborne and I'm airborne and a skydiver. I'll have to wait about 12 more years. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  15. There is an old story about a monkey (chimp?) being static lined. He climbed the lines and collapsed the round canopy and streamered in all wrapped up. Urban legend? Who knows.
  16. ---------------------------------------------------- Yep, just like earth tones of the lates 70' ~ early 80's - Bounce and Blend ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  17. For the supporting brass trio of the Booze Brothers, I think it was the "Hays Brothers" or maybe spelled "Haze Brothers." Anyone know for sure? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  19. I gottta ask. He went hand held off the WTC!? I know what the picture shows, but ...why? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  20. QuoteThe early FB vids were ripe with classics, some they stole like Peter Gunn, and some they came up with before the no-rules Freak Brothers convention became the Mommy May I Boogie. They even held it in a cool place, Freeport . . . I have some of that stuff on VHS, and I'll see if I can render it for you . . . -------------------------------------------------- Hey Nick, I was at the '83 convention when Norman Kent screened the Freak Brothers movie for the first time. We went crazy! It rocked. My friends told me I had a great time. The '83 convention was the only time I have every heard the following announcement. "Jumpers! Please put your beer cans in the trash before boarding!" I'd love to see some other footage of different early conventions! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  21. ----------------------------------------------- Would that have been Joey D. at Lakewood, NJ? In 82~83, they had the color version hanging on a wall somewhere. This is the first time I've seen it since then!
  22. I do remember calling it the Ica-cide because they were so damn small and fast. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  24. Who recognizes some of the seals on the front? That rig & I sure did a bit of traveling back in the day... ---------------------------------------------------- Freak Brother Convention? I seem to recall having a similar gear inspection tag on my old Wonderhog for a few years afterwards. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  25. Shouldn't you wait until it's over to post it in history and trivia? Sounds like fun! Wish I could go. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
