Not a great shot, but it's one of my favorites. Here's a picture of me about to make my first base jump. '83 NRGB. I first heard of BASE jumping from Skydiving Magazine on Tuesday and made my first BASE jump on Saturday! I had about 160 jumps at the time. First Jump Course? What's that! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

I'm sort of a second generation airborne who turned skydiver. My Dad was jump trained in the early 60's and never did any more. I went to jump school in '82 and started skydiving that same year. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Great Read! I basically started at Raeford. Gene Paul (one of the greatest S&A coaches ever) always had an eye on the new zoomies with a shake of his head.

Got swooped by John Rich on this one. #2 of who's who sure looks like a young Bill Legg! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Paul Rafferty - post vibes here
zoobrothertom replied to Raefordite's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
Many folks have shared stories of Paul. Here's another one. Even when Raff was a newby he was a classy guy and a lot of fun to be around. I jumped a lot with him at the 82nd club in the early 80's. He and I ordered our Fury canopies together and sent in our D license apps at the same time. That was a fun night. Back then, you had to send in a copy of your log book. I snuck into our company's hangar at the airfield to use the copy machine while Paul got someone to look the other way at his company on the same night. We got together the next day and sent them in figuring we'd get consecutive numbers. I wound up with 9397 and Paul wound up with 940? something. Go figure. That was funny! I miss him a lot. I followed his career through the years always knowing I'd see him again soon.... Blue skies my friend.... ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -

Ouch!! I cracked mine when I was 10 years old. Slipped on a rock jumping across a stream and planted my butt bone right on the peak of a rock. 30 years later I still sit on my right cheek in a chair. Sorry, but there's no cure 'butt' time. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Spring Creek Parachute Ranch Waller TX
zoobrothertom replied to pcrt's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Hi Wendy, An old friend of mine, Dennis Smith, used to talk about Spring Creek Ranch. When I met him in '86, he was running Skydive Suffolk in VA. Do you remember him? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -

This really moved me…. I seldom pass along inspirational stuff, but this one got to me. I believe, in these difficult and mean-spirited times in which we live, there needs to be a message of Hope. We can all use a single image that speaks to us of love, harmony, peace, and joy. An image that suggests the universality of us all. I have been sent that image, and I want to share it with you all. All I ask that all of you take a moment to reflect on it.

Best of luck. Since everyone's throwing around advice, here's my 2 cents. "Shut Up! Cooperate and graduate!" Airborne ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Hey John, Was this the same "Hutch" that jumped sometimes at Skydive Houston in the late 90's? It's hard to tell from the picture. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Awesome! Good job! A little bit of a misnomer for the thread subject. It should be "Miles D jumps inside Reliant Stadium." The Astrodome is next door. clicky http://www.globalsecurity.org/eye/reliant-stadium.htm ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Scary stories from the old days?
zoobrothertom replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I do recall a jump in the late 90's where we were put on a weather hold for the last jump of the day. We, 8 of us, decided there'd be no harm in starting our fun early and be ready to really go long after we landed. The weather hold caught us by surprise. It was a crw jump at 13 grand. At the end, I was in a side by side at about 50 feet with a buddy when we suddenly notice that the amber waves of grain were about to eat our asses! Break, flare, slide!! It hasn't really died. It's just very low key nowadays. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Art Buchwald on skydiving
zoobrothertom replied to howardwhite's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
It's funny, because in a way it came true. Ask yourselves guys & gals, are you a better person because of skydiving or not? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
Ya know, it looks like an exit shot as they tumbled on exit!

Hey Tom, You're spot on about how it's viewed by jumpers. Trying to limit it's distribution may be futile. However, I don't think anyone should knowingly pass it on to a whuffo. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.

Okay, what gives! I had to read every post just to be sure I didn't repost another lame one. I can't believe nobody thought of this one... Let's call it a little "s." That way you'll have all the BASE's' covered! Is that lame or what?
