How often statistically does the parachute not open?
ahegeman replied to Addicks's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Should you stick with the sport, your fear of the canopy not opening will quickly be replaced with fear of it opening too fast. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry -
Eh. Where someone sticks their willie in their free time is pretty much the least of my concerns. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

Would you pay $5 for 1/2 hour tunnel time?
ahegeman replied to Avion's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd pay $3. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry -

My point was that your can't compare a skydive to what that motorcycle rider did. If you think that someone on a motorcycle thinking "I'm going to shoot that gap next to the moving truck right next to where that guy is standing" is on par with someone thinking "I'm going to go make a skydive", then so be it. I'm not trying to make any point about riding in general. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

I am well aware of that dangers of skydiving, which is why I said "to the same extent". It seems pretty obvious that a motorcycle trying to shoot a gap beside a moving vehicle a few feet from where someone is standing is creating a more dangerous situation than going on a skydive. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

That's a specious argument. Stupidity in traffic puts a lot of people's lives and property at risk. When I go skydiving I'm not putting other people's lives at risk to nearly the same extent as someone trying to shoot a gap only a few feet away from someone standing on the side of the road. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

Nice shottie. I'm still trying to decide between one of those and a Mossberg 500. Good choice on the 20 ga, too. 12s can be brutal. A Surefire would be a nice addition. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

Mandy said you did well. Good job. Bring beer next time. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

I like that. Robin, you'll be informing the others about the beer and the Rules at our next training camp, right? Of course, if I can't find some way to start consistently being part of the dive I won't have to worry about getting hurt. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

I see. You should be careful with such inflamed political rhetoric. It may contribute towards making someone feel persecuted. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

OK, so what you are saying then is that "we aren't really against people of faith, we just think that Christians involved in politics sound like terrorists who kill by the thousands." Did I get that right? --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

Be concise. Don't feel like your answers should be long. Answer their question directly, don't ramble. I interview people all the time, and I hate rambling. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

Curious as to how you came up with this conclusion. What is the statement based on? I was afraid someone was going to make me dig that old post up. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1230637;#1230637 --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry -

On average, a skydive is as likely to kill you as 30 miles on a motorcycle. Sounds like a pretty comparable fatality rate to me. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry -
While obviously not applying in this particular case, and old expression comes to mind - "better to be judged by 12 than carried by six". That being said, I had a roommate once who pulled on gun on his phsycho girlfriend because she came to the house and started banging on the door and windows after one of the many times they "broke up" (they're married now with a daughter). I almost kicked him out of my house after that. The gun was totally unnecessary in that case. Definitely the most fucked up people I have ever had the misfortune to be associated with. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

I remember seeing that on some Discovery Channel or Learning Channel show. Just one of those "wouldn't it be cool if . . . " kinda things. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry -
So you're familiar with them, then? I got busted by a Plano motorcycle cop hiding in the shadows under the 15th st overpass a few months ago, then just after my 90-day deferred adjudication was up I got busted in Allen. I've been driving for 13 yrs, since I was 14 and never gotten a ticket until I started driving 75 to SDD. Those cops are sneaky. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

And if you're driving to Skydive Dallas on 75N, watch out for cops on all the Allen overpasses. @$%@ers. --------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry
