  1. It seems that you have to open some loaded ribs. Trust me,will be fun closing them And remember, when you really want to kill the sewing machine, don't. It was your fault becoming a rigger Good luck and have fun Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  2. Why not HMA ot Vectran for Sabre 2? Where is the problem? Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  3. He was just referring to Bill Booth's comment on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-WBBLAgE_s at 5:47min. I'm sure that he is aware of the EPs when jumping with camera. I just wanted to point out how much faith he was putting on a small piece of aluminum, after watching the Skyhook promo video. But let's go back on the question why sometimes Skyhook doesn't work as a MARD Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  4. See, that's the only problem with the Skyhook, the way it is advertised. "You can chop on 100 ft AGL and have a fully open reserve, ...it always work, except when you have a total....,you never gonna lose you freebag because it stays with the main....etc. And then, something happens and Skyhook doesn't work as it's advertised, and the first thing the jumper is saying :"the Skyhook is shit" I've had a chat with a jumper with about 700 jumps. He was jumping with camera and He had a Skyhook. I asked him: Why are you jumping with a RSL and a camera and he said:"This is not a RSL,this is a Skyhook". I asked him what is the difference and he told me:" With the normal RSL you can have an entanglement with the reserve bridle or lines and with the Skyhook, this can't happen." So I asked, But what if on some reason the Skyhook doesn't work as a MARD and only as a RSL....??? He said:" THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE...if you have something out,the Skyhook will extract the reserve." He was so sure about that because he has seen the Skyhooh promo video. Cool a?! Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  5. I think that here the key will be the staging loop + heavy reserve+ really bad angle of pulling. The relative wind during the spining mal is high,so the RPC takes over easier. Just my thoughts . 6. To the OP It was not a malfunction. Malfunction will be if you had a total and the lanyard did not disconnect from the skyhook. I’m going to shear my thoughts, why Skyhook did not work as you expected it. Before I start, I have to tell that this is NOT a post against Skyhook or Vector. During the last few years I have witnessed 2 cases myself and have seen 4 videos when Skyhook worked as a normal RSL. It is not a big deal, but it got me thinking why is that. I discovered that in those 6 cases, the rigs were with the MAGNETIC riser covers. Now, what I tend to believe is that there’s connection between Skyhook, magnets and Skyhook not working as a MARD. Why not…well the magnetic riser covers tend to get closed when the risers are already out. The yoke design on V3 with riser covers closed, makes it more difficult for the free bag to leave the rig. I did some ground tests and I have to tell you that you need twice as much pull force on the bridle to get the freebag out when the riser covers are still closed.. And this is when pulling on angle 30 degree or less direction towards the yoke . The things are getting worse if you have the maximum size reserve for the rig, or bad fabric distribution during the packing. I think that because of the higher pull force that you need to get the freebag out, the reserve PC has time to take over and finish the deployment. This is what I think about: “why sometimes Skyhook doesn’t work as a MARD”. They are some great riggers and a gear designers in this forum and I would appreciate any input about the subject. 7. Hi Shlomo, As much as I respect your knowledge ,I have to disagree with you on this one. A few months ago I had a Smart reserve with # 3,5 links for I&R. The first thing I did after I saw them was to contact the manufacturer and ask about them... Here is the answer: Hello Deyan, The Smart is TSO'd with 3.5 and #4 links as well as softlinks. 8. Aerodyne has TSO'd for their Smart with Rapide links # 3,5 and #4 "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  9. How come if Vectror3 and Mirage are using the SAME spring for their reserve PC (same manufacturer, spring strength, model number)...? I don't know. All I know is that when I have the rig on the table and when I pull the ripcord,Mirage's PC jump higher than V3"s. The only reason I can think of is the pin cover flap. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  10. Strongest PC spring doesn't mean highest PC launch does it? Javelin's PC has to clear only 2 flaps when V3's has to clear 4. I think that they are both good rigs. My personal preference from those 2 is Javelin. They are a few minor details which are big enough for me to put V3 on the bottom of my "wish list" If somebody want to hear my reasons for that,he can send me a PM and I'll give him an answer ,but I'm not going to talk about them here. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  11. Well, I don't think that the launch of the reserve PC from V3 is the highest. Not even close. It's way below Advance, Vortex 2, Mirage, Voodoo and Atom Legend with "Quick 3.1" PC. This is the data from my personal experience. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  12. Rob, I think that the Russians are using PPK-U as a AAD for the drogue release Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  13. Congratulations dude. Welcome to the dark side. I have only one advice......never stop learning. And don't be afraid to say:"Oh,I don't know ..." Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  14. Just clarifying -- are you still talking about Vectors? Their tuck tabs are rather long compared to on other rigs. Yep. This was a V310 Micron, a Spectre 150, and a girl who weighs 120lbs. sans gear. I have seen this 2 times. Once on Vector 3 and once on the new Icon with skyhook. Both times the risers were packed UNDER the cover flap with the note:"place the risers on TOP of this flap" I think that the magnets are great solution for solving the problem with V3 riser cover design. And the problem is that if you have a wrong fabric distribution on the reserve with too much fabric in the "ears",you will have troubles with the riser covers staying closed "in place" when the rig is ready for jump. But if you put the main risers under both riser covers, you might end up in situation when they can remain closed after the deployment. I'm happy with the tuck tab riser covers on my G4. They work great. I had a baglock malfunction on the second rubber band (about 3 ft above the risers) and the both riser covers were open with no problem.(according to Bill Booth,I had to clear the riser covers myself before pulling the reserve ripcord.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSVRSIicQDk ....@ 6:47) I'm looking forward to see how many manufacturers will change the designs on their rigs from tuck tabs to magnets because of their costumers. Not because their design need change. I know a guy who bought a V3 only because of the magnets......Well...we will see "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

  18. Hm....Asen "Sammy" Popov no longer runs DZ in Bulgaria, and he is the most careless instructor I've ever seen. If you don't trust me,check this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_wp7dBtkUU&feature=related AFF student without helmet, with t-shirt and Sabre 2/170 as a main. If he is a "hell of a good instructor",I don't wanna see a bad one!I have to admit that he has the flying skills, but not the teaching skills. Anyway..... 19. OK,this seems to be another Skyhook discussion. We all know that Skyhook is faster than the normal RSL(when it works, because sometimes just doesn't work and nobody can tell why). The big question here is:"How much faster".Are we talking about 200-300 ft vertical difference ,or more like 100ft. I found 2 videos on youtube. Both intentional cutaways. One with skyhook and one with RSL. Well, doesn't look like a big difference, does it? Skyhook cutaway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy35JMUCcAw&feature=related RSL cutaway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w4OFyizivE I would like to see side by side cutaway with both,Skyhook and RSL. The same size reserve, the same packing technique, the same or close to the same WL. I don't think that the difference will be more than 100-150 ft. But who knows? 20. What about this one??? Centaurus + Pegasus + Phantom 26. The worst thing about this gear is that it's still in use Don't ask me "why" and "how" Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

  24. Both reserves are listed up to 115 kg max. But why not Optimum 143 into TJNK?! You are a big guy. The size of the rig should be the last thing you should worry about. The difference between NJK and TJNK is not so big. You hardly can see it and I'm sure that you can't feel it when the rig is on your back.
