As a teacher I can happily say that the school year is over and the summer has begun! ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

I wish white zinfanfel would just disappear. My favorite wine is Zinfandel...the real stuff. It is not pink, it is not sweet. It is a real wine...red wine. I hate having to explain this to the bimbos who only know white zin. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

I am lame...I only stalk my husband. Although I did start stalking him 6 months before I met him. Now it is such an ingrained habit I cannot stop! ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

I believe in consequences. I think there should be some sort of punishment for beling AWOL for 2 hours. In our family it would probably be a loss of priveledge the next time an opportunity came for some freedom, be it a party, going to a friend's house, going to the pool alone.... ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

And to answer the original question...I learned to swim from infancy. The house I grew up in had a pool in the back yard. I broke into the pool area when I was 6. Smart enough to get onto the pool deck. (Also smart enough not to get in, but that did not keep my parents from punishing me.) I teach my daughter all sorts of survival skills. She knows how to swim. She knows how to call collect. She knows to yell "This is not my mother (or father)" if someone grabs her. When I met her at age 9, she did not swim very comfortably, she was afraid of escalators, and she was not comfortable talking about the "what-ifs" of the world. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

Please tell me you did not mean this in reference to your children. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

He will not even remember it. I, on the other hand, walked in on my parents as I came home from church choir practice at age 11. They were in front of the fireplace in the living room. I ran to my room. Not an image I needed....nor can I get rid of it. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!! -
Just remember that humans have run off most of the squirrel's natural predators. Therefore it is our DUTY to kill some of them, just to keep the population in check. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

We have one cat who is crazy for fruit...oranges, grapefruit, apples.... We have another who is more of a carb cat...he likes cookies and waffles and crackers. This one will also fairly aggressively go after your popcorn is you happen to try to eat that at our house. Our third cat is lame...he doesn't like people food. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

Should school kids be allowed to have cell phones in school?
FallinWoman replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
As a teacher, this is a battle I fight every day. The rule is that if I hear it or see it, I take it and it goes to the administrator. The admin then returns it at the end of the day. The second time the admin makes a parent come get it. I have learned to tell when a student is text messaging during class. I make my girls put their purses on the floor (otherwise they put their hands in their purse and text!). I wish that parents would look at when their kids are calling and texting and take the phone away if it is during school hours. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!! -

In college....drinking Trivial Pursuit (if you missed a pie piece question you had to take a shot( Now...Skip-bo. It is not a board game...more a card game. My step-daughter brought it into our home and now I have taught my nephews (5 and 7) to play. I love it as an adult and they love it too. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

Student suspended for .....GIMME A F*CKIN' BREAK!!
FallinWoman replied to RastaRicanAir's topic in The Bonfire
Yes, but on the other hand parents expect me to teach their children how to act appropriately. There is a time and a place for certain things. I just had this discussion with a student who flicked someone off in class and said it didn't hurt anyone. I explained that it is my job to teach him to control his impulses and that there are times when such behavior is inappropriate. If a kid sang something like that when frustrated with me, I would send her to the principal also. However....I have been known to burst into song frequently in my class. One of my current favorite songs is to the tune of Joy to the World.... "Joy to the world, my teacher's dead. I barbequed her head. I chopped up her whole body, And flushed it down the potty, And round and round it goes, And round and round it goes, And round and round and round it goes." ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!! -

Skymedic and I spent $200 with tip when he and I went there recently. Sounds like a great deal to me. I would be interested to know what it would cost if you purchased each of those things separately. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

I guess my experiences are a bit different. I love teaching. I hate the politics though. I wish they would just leave me alone and let me do my job. I have very few problems with parents. i call or email when a kids grade has gone down, and I document every conversation and email that I have/send. At the end there are no reasons to be mad at me, because I can prove that the parents had fair warning about their little darling failing and have not done anything about it. I do NO work at home or on the weekends. I get to work at 7:15 everyday and leave by 3:30. Occasionally I have to buy something to use in my teaching, but that is the only time I spend outside of work hours. I get all my grading and planning done during my plan period. This was not true in my first years of teaching, but I am currently in my ninth year of doing this. I teach high school algebra. I find the money to be just fine. I cannot afford everything that I want, but I am not scraping for funds, either. While I was still single and teaching I bought myself a little house. It can be done. Even bought myself my first rig, including a brand new cypres. Do it because you love it. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!

A Stress Relief technique that actually works......

People used to talk about going to their happy place and I thought it was BS. Until I had to get a spinal tap....I went to my happy place...sitting student in a cessna with the door open! I did not even mean to "go to my happy place," it is just what I naturally did. ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!
