I hate that my injury is giving skydiving a bad name...
davedlg replied to Jeth's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A skydiver who paralyzed himself jumping at my dropzone was treated badly by the staff at a major rehab center. He managed to stand up and walk months after the doctors told him he would never walk again. The staff at the center actually told him that he was no hero because he had hurt himself "screwing around" and it was the people who hurt themselves working or in car wrecks that were the real heros. I can't believe that they would act that way. When an injury like that happens it is life-changing regardless of how it happened. Would it have been any different if he had done it in a car wreck driving to the dropzone? -
Agreed I backpacked from dos palmas into sirena and along the black sand beach to Madigral. It was the highlight of my trip! Lots of walking though. I wasn't terribly impressed by Monteverde. It was small, espensive and too touristy. Arenal was even more touristy than Moteverde, however seeing the volcano offset a lot of it. I loved the waterfall. We got there as soon as it opened in the morning and had the place to ourselves. We took busses everywhere and had no problems getting where we needed to go.

good news for me is...maybe this'll hit Colorado and give us a good dumping and get our ski season started already!!

Costa Rica is awesome. The people there are great. There is so much to do there...everything from surfing to whitewater rafting to backpacking in the rainforest to climbing active volcanos to...well you get the point. If you've traveled to other central / south American countries you may be surprised by how expensive Costa Rica is in comparison. But it is definatly more modernized as well. My favorite memories of costa rica involve backpacking through the rainforest to huge waterfalls and a black sand beach. GO!!!! Definatly check out: Corcovado N.P. (rainforest jungle and black sand beach) Pacuare River (whitewater rafting) Ricon de la Vieja N.P. (geologic hotspot near Libera) Playa Tamirindo (surfers village) Arenal Volcano (erupts constantly)

Yup...I'ts official. Ivan's back...

1. Tried to climb a 22,000' mountain in Peru 2. Paddle guided a whitewater raft down Class 5+ Gore Canyon having never seen it before. At least most of the paddlers were also professional raft guides. 3. Went to Costa Rica with no clue what we were going to do. We ended up going on a backpacking trip through the rainforest and crossing croc infested rivers. 4. Got a "real job" 5. Rowed a raft down the Grand Canyon. It was the best 18-days of my life! 6. Jumped out of an airplane. Then did it again. and again. and again....

I dont want to grow up.

Well...It's official...Jeanne's a Hurricane now. For all of you in Florida, I hope this projected track is accurate.. As for me...I'm headed off to West Virginia to go whitewater rafting! What's left of Ivan should be hitting there this weekend make this an interesting trip to say the least. I'm expecting high water...

Fastracks is a massive, 4.7 billion dollar public trainsit proposal the Denver area voters will vote on in the November election. It proposes to build 120 miles of light rail and commuter rail throughout the metro area and to Boulder and DIA. It is huge ...It dwarfs TRex even. Additionally, it will expand bus service throughout the suburbs. Personally, I'm all for it. I think anything that promotes getting away from the ridiculous scene you see on I-25 at every rush hour of a sea of massive single-occupant SUV's is a step in the right direction. Direct Hit by Ivan Could Sink New Orleans edited to add: I dont think I'd be sticking around...

Hey, I'm a civil engineer in Denver! The mousetrap? I dont know what the heck was up with that....CDOT bureaucracy I guess. TREX seems to be coming along quite well however. Just wait and see what happens if fastracks passes ...
