  1. I never post on here, but whatever... I totally agree with this. I photograph really well, ummm, too well. I'm definitely a cute girl, but some of my pictures make me look like I'm way hotter than I really am. So I always avoid posting really good pictures even if it is me untouched. You just can't win, I guess :-P
  2. I have surfed and hosted many times. I exercise logic and reason in my choices of hosts and guests and have had no problems whatsoever. It has been the single most fun/awesome/inspiring experience in years.
  3. I put my stuff on the curb and then include my address in the ad. As soon as I see that the goods have been picked up, I remove my address from the ad and add the the word "GONE" to the title. I do this to avoid the exact nonsense that you speak of.
  4. No one ever understands it, but I will randomy say to people "Listen, Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time". I don't know why that particular line stuck with me. I just finished 1001 Nights in the Iraqi Army by Shant Kenderian. It's the best book I've read in a couple of years.
  5. I highly recommend it, however, it is well known that Stevia has an aftertaste. You can avoid this by buying high quality stevia. The cheap stuff usually has alcohol in it, which is the source of the aftertaste. The good stuff is expensive, but worth it.
  6. I've never been cause I'm not into the kind of music that ACL showcases, however, I know a lot of people that are and they love it. If you like the lineup, I highly recommend it. Plus, Austin is just a really cool town. There's a ton of stuff to do here, especially for the outdoorsy types. There is one band playing this year that I'm sad to miss and that's Built to Spill. Oh well, I'm sure they'll be back.
  7. She rows at "Texas"? Do you mean UT? I row at Austin Rowing Club. UT is just down the river from us. We have a group going to the Head of the Charles this year. I've elected not to go to that one and have instead decided to go to the closer races so that I can do more of them. Also, Head of the Charles is extremely competitive and I'm simply too novice to go. Plus, I'm sure I wouldn't get chosen due to my size.
  8. I've been rowing a bit over a year and never had the experience of college rowing. I row on a women's competitive team and am concentrating on single and double sculling. The club has lots of sweep rowing too. Right now I'm getting geared up for the head races. I'm training for the longer rows, which I actually prefer to the sprints. I think Head of the Hooch is 4500 meters? The only thing I don't like about rowing is that it sucks being small. I think there needs to be a featherweight class! I'd like to cox more, but am scared that I'll get pegged as a cox and never get to row again.
  9. There are other rowers? Cool!!! I love it so much that I'm saving my money for regattas rather than jumping. I'm thinking about doing the marathon in Natchitoches this year, but really want to do the Head of the Hooch in Atlanta this year. Is that the regatta you are talking about?
  10. There's a rollergirl league here in Austin and it's a pretty big deal. They get tons of press. Also, I hear those girls are ROUGH. People love it though; they're treated like rock stars.
  11. I always tell people that if I could be fed intravenously and never have to deal with the hassle of food, my life would be greatly improved.
  12. I live in Austin and am a non-smoker, but unfortunately, was out of town for the vote. In any case, I spend a lot of time in bars seeing live music so I'm interested to see how it will affect the venues that I frequent as well as the music scene. Honestly, I'm not even sure how I feel about the smoking ban. While I believe in my right not to have to inhale that bullshit, I also know that I can choose not to go to those places, but I choose to accept the risk and go anyway. Sorry to hear that this will negatively affect your income
  13. I just finished getting my license at Texas Skydiving Center. I've primarily seen tandems and AFF students there.
  14. - jicama and salsa - apple/celery or anything crunchy with nut butter. The high fat content in nut butters makes this a pretty filling snack (peanut butter, almond butter, macadamia butter, etc) - trail mix
  15. Primus. Frizzle Fry was always my favorite, but I recently saw them perform and they played Seas of Cheese from start to finish. Since then Seas of Cheese has been my favorite. On a lesser known scale, one of my all time favorite bands, NoMeansNo, is coming to town soon and I'm so psyched I can't stop listening to them.
  16. I'm not a huge metal fan so I don't have a top ten, but I love Houdini by The Melvins.
  17. I'm so glad you posted this! I printed all the articles to PDF so that I'll have quick access to them.
  18. Holy Shite! I don't read the forums that much so I don't know you, but that is so appalling that I feel compelled to post and express my sympathy. Even if you're a total asshole I can't see doing that to someone. I wish you well in the search for your next job.
  19. Some good ones that I have recently seen: - Capturing the Friedman's - Metallica: Some Kind of Monster - Double Dare, it's fun and might be of interest to skydivers as it contrasts the start and end of two different stuntwomen
  20. Just curious.... How do you prove that someone gave you a VD? Seems like that would be hard to prove, but maybe it isn't given that according to this article Lima isn't disputing that he slept with the accuser or that he gave her herpes.
  21. I don't know enough about these cases to comment on them. I simply have never had enough interest to follow them. I know that may be difficult to believe given the media blitz surrounding each of them. I tend to be of the opinion that unless I know everything about something that I don't know anything about it. So unless I know all the facts, I don't feel that I can make an informed decision about someone's guilt or innocence. Ultimately, this is something that I feel very strongly about and I find it completely unacceptable for an innocent person to waste away in a jail cell or be put to death for something that they didn't do. Humans run the criminal justice system so there is always some understood level of error. However, it's not okay to say that just because someone most likely committed some crime that they should be found guilty. I think one of the real problems is that the system is set up in such a way that finding the real perpetrator is not the goal; it's often more about who wins the case. I don't think that we'll ever be able to move away from our current system, but I think that we can do things to mitigate its results. As I understand it, criminal trials use a system of "limited" discovery, whereby not all information is disclosed to the defense (I am not an attorney so I don't know the details of this). There are groups writing legislation to change these types of things so that we can improve our current system. I hope that our representatives will support these changes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't think that we should ever convict someone solely on circumstantial evidence, no matter how convincing it is. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So you agree with the O.J. Simpson verdict. And you think Scott Peterson should be set free. Along with Charles Manson...
  22. Wow, I had no idea that was the case. That's really disheartening. While I am not opposed to the death penalty, my thoughts about prison and the death penalty have changed significantly with more reading on the topic. Some good non-academic books about this subject include "Newjack: Guarding Sing Sing" and "Bloodsworth". While the former is not about the death penalty, it is an interesting study on the effects of prison life.
