Yeah, have to agree with that. I had the same issues early on in AFF and my solo's. How did I correct it? RELAX!! and just have fun. Why call it "Failed" ? How about opportunities for additional training ? I for one do not like to use the word "failed" as I feel it does not create a good learning environment in both the instructor and student. As long as your altitude aware, pull at your planned altitude, land safe (can walk away) and having fun, well, all is good, right? No worries, happend to me also. This may sound strange, but I broke it down what got to me. It was all the sound of the wind going through plane when the door was opened. So, I bought myself my own helmet and bingo!! Took care of the sound issue. I also wear earplugs sometimes too. Makes everything very pleasent. And yes, you can still hear you instructors just fine. Like everyone else has said, just do it. Ask your instructor to go over dive exits if you havent done them yet. Im not a big fan of hanging outside poised (well, its fun on a 182), I like to dive out. I had the same issues. Just too much to think about. I ask my instructor if I could just dive out for all my exits. He said sure, great practice (unstable exits) to get stable fast. I found that dive exits relaxed my body after getting stable. I was ready for the rest of my dive plan. jmo "Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying who shall I send, and who will go for us? And isnt that the bottom line here? I have limited jumps, but I know when Im at my hard deck and I cannot land it, the choice is made for me....get rid of it, period !! Sounds like a textbook event that you delt with. As I was taught, know your hard deck and get rid of it if you feel that you can not land it. Congrats I say!!! Glad you hear to talk about it. You said instructor #2 caught up to you and grab on, that must have been one hell of an exit to shake your instructor. I know all of my 2 instructor AFFs jumps with some messed up flipping exits they stuck right with me. BTW, most of my exits up to 10 really sucked, but, I was able to get stable within 5 sec each time. As my instructor said, stable exits are prefered, but getting stable fast is far better then a good exit. Just jump my new rig today (well, new to me) and the PD230 has about 200 jumps on it. After jumping all the student rigs and used to a snivle (3 -5 sec), when I pulled at 7000' (first jump on it), and moving back into a good arch, I looked up and my slider was coming down at me already, and the canopy was open (on heading), flying perfect!! And you know what? No slam at all!! I was very surprised how soft it was. I made two other jumps today pulling lower and the same thing. Fast and soft openings. Good for you!...Do you think you are going to keep that hard deck for the next 1,000 jumps? My safty and life for a few extra seconds of freefall?, yes, I can say I will still pull higher then everyone else. [reply Some skydivers with cypreses have replaced their fear of death with a fear of paying for a new cutter and a repack. Ever heard the phrase "that's why I have a cypres?" Some jumpers use their cypres to give them sufficient confidence to no longer fear a terminal impact. And we all have to remember, an AAD is STILL a peice of equipment that CAN fail. As requards this thread, a 30 day sit down for any unsafe act should be mandated. Then again, the USPA is still self governed body and I would hope that would not change. Im my limited sport skydiving experance, I know my plan, I dive my plan and train for the unknown. I dont know how many of you go over emergency procedures before jumping, I do, every time. Is the PVC smaller then normal? Do you have big hands? I never really thought of this an issue before now. Im still on student status and have jumped 5 differant rigs, 3 with PVC, 1 hacky, 1 monkey fist. Once I have the rig on, Im always checking that I can find the PC before getting in the A/C. Anyone out there take the packing class at Perris Valley? Did you get signed off on your A card the same day? Did you jump you pack job before sign off? On a Cessna, if the pilot will let you, climb out with feet on the wheel platform, move out as far as you can hang onto the strut, let you feet go and give a big wave and smile to the pilot and let go!!!! Its the climb out that I dont like. I could not get a handle on it to the point on my 9th jump (with a coach) I called it off and sat down. Road the plane down, walked into the head instructors office and said "thats it, Im done with jumping" We talked for about and hour (didnt really help) and I drove home. The further I got from the DZ, the more I wanted to jump again. A few days later, I went back, talked the the coach I was (didnt jump with) with that day. Like myself, he 40+, he got into the sport at 35 and thought he was going to die each time up to 50 jumps (his words). I think the ride up is what freaked me out, so, I bought my own helmet, made it less noisy. I was able to think about the jump. My time came, 12,500, I was first with 12 other jumpers, door open, checked for traffic and my spot, this was it.....out the door!!! I was free from that darn plane!!! Pulled at 4k, standup landing and ran to get another chute and to the plane. So, all I can say, Its a frame of mind, no pressure, its all about you. Hope this helps Clear skys!!
