What jump # did you first land standing up?
maestropaolo replied to Nickkk's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
#15, #18, #27. I think part of the problem is getting so used to doing non-stand up landings that you forget there are some landings where you actually can stand up without botching them. Arse landings are great when landing downwind though... -
Reserve is a Sprint 175...

I'm a student jumper with 20 jumps, 6ft and 160 lbs. I found a rig for sale -- a Triathlon 160. The seller is telling me it's good for a first-time jumper that he started using it at 35 jumps. Question is: I went to the Aerodyne web site and found "NS" for students. But when I calculate the wing loading, it comes out to about 1. Is this out of my league? Thanks in advance for your opinion.

throat/sinus pain from freefall
maestropaolo replied to maestropaolo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's a consistent problem, once I get to the ground my throat is completely dry and irritated and it goes away in about 1/2 hour. Not the result of a flu or cold... thanks for the response though. -
throat/sinus pain from freefall

Thanks, I do deal with door fear, no question about it. But I thought my sinus/throat problems are due to the 120mph of air going through my head. Since no one else seems to have experienced this problem (I did searches on the forums for this and got no results) then maybe you're right...? -
throat/sinus pain from freefall
maestropaolo replied to maestropaolo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Once I get to the ground I notice I have throat/sinus pain from the freefall. Now that the weather's cooling down it probably won't get much better. Anyone here experience the same problem and know how to prevent it? Thanks. -
Wow, that's awful news considering I'm going to Perris (from NYC) to learn backflips and advanced maneuvers that will enable me to finally finish AFF. These flips are keeping me back in a big way and I don't know how many more hundreds of $ I'll have to spend to get level 6 right.

I'm flying out to LA this coming weekend for the purpose of sky tunnel training in Perris. I was on the phone with a trainer and she told me that I may not be allowed to do backflips since it's a potentially dangerous move. I'm going there specifically for that purpose because I'm stuck on AFF 6, and I'm going to do 15 mins of tunnel time. Has anyone trained in the sky tunnel doing advanced moves like front- and backflips, barrel rolls, turns etc.? Also, can you tell me how helpful the training was? Thanks.

AFF is not going well for me
maestropaolo replied to maestropaolo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sorry for not being more specific -- I am not relaxed enough in my falls, which is a huge reason why I keep losing my arch, etc...I also have very stiff back/shoulder/neck problems which make the falling posture difficult to maintain. My instructors keep telling me the key is to relax, but for me it's way easier said than done. Good advice here though, thanks. -

AFF is not going well for me
maestropaolo replied to maestropaolo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey all, I'm doing AFF and the cost is building up because I repeated levels 1, 2, and I'm still not past level 3 after two tries at it. I'm having doubts about my ability to take this on. Has anyone failed this many times so early on? Would the more experienced jumpers have any advice? I see that most people are 7 for 7 or had to repeat only once... Thanks...
