The clip is from the Stockholm Club scramble championships in Gryttjom, Sweden 2006. We had an eighties theme party the same night and thus used the dive pool from 1988. However, I think the block is called "Interlock-interlock", not Venezuelan Connection as the title suggest. Booties doesn't help much for leg locks...

Had you ever practised the leg-locks before, cos they look damn smooth! Nope, however this was the second attempt on the jump since we were granted a rejump for some reason that I can't remember.

Last year Sweden's biggest DZ -the Stockholm Skydiving Club, had a eighties theme party. At the same time we hosted the FS4 err... I mean RW4 club championships using the dive pool from I believe 1988. Michael, Hopefully there'll be two consecutive competitions in Sweden. 28th of july in Haninge (Stockholm suburb) and 4th of august (Nyköping, 1.5 hrs drive from Stockholm, or direct flight with RyanAir). It'll probably be depending on if enough competitors will register though. No money, no speed event, just fun... Hope to see you (and others) there! /SweMartin

Yes, FAI is the proper authority ratifying records. But of course there is a few speedbumps along the way... As we got it explained to us from IPC represetatives on site, the following is likely to happen: This record *can* be valid and accepted according to the NEW rule changes that was decided at the IPC meeting in Poland in the end of jan. However, the problem is that these rules will not take effect until May 1st (like all IPC rules). Thomas Tuominen from Finland (the FAI controller in Lake Wales) promised to make an effort for a petition to the IPC, making the rules to take effect from feb 1st instead. In that case Tagles 146.24m will be a valid record. I don't know if that's the case yet though. -Let's keep our fingers crossed everybody! /Martin

The fact of the matter is that there still are NO official records in Canopy Piloting, not even in distance. This is because that there are no such thing as an "IPC sanctioned course". IPC has, until now, only defined a few parameters for the courses (s.a. the starting gate has to be over a body of water 3 ft deep, etc). The rest has been entirely up to the bidder of the event to present in the bid. Since we haven't had any standardized courses, we can't really compare the results from different events, and hence no records... This was one of the problems that was adressed at the 'open meeting' in Lake Wales. The concensus was that the competitors wanted IPC (represented by May-Lou, Thomas Tuominen and Exi) to standardize the courses. This giving the competitors equal possibilities to practice and prepare for IPC events in given courses, no matter when or in what part of the world they might train. A number of other changes to the rules was also suggested during this meeting (including the way too complicated scoring system). I guess we'll have to wait and see if they can be implemented before the next upcoming World Cup in august (Austria). However, we're already aware that this might be difficult, since the rule changing IPC meeting was held in Poland two weeks before the World Cup in Lake Wales... No matter what the paper work says, 479ft is still the longest distance, Jonathan Tagle is still The KING, and Sweden is still a very cold and unswoopable place in the winter... C'ya!
