  1. What sux is that I'm the male searcher for my floor. We are told from the lobby security desk to standby. I think I'm gettin' the fuck out of dodge! And I hear fire trucks on the way! Fuck! Where's a BASE rig when you need one? Why the fuck am I finishing this post when I should be getting the fuck out! Later! What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  2. That's a tough one. I'd have to say I would need watch them all pack in front of me first. Hey, I'm sure I'm not the only one that does that..... What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  3. blood twice a year baby! I'm a tad bit pissed off the last time I donated blood. The people extracting blood, left me with a noticeable permanent scar the size of a grain of rice by my inner forearm. Makes it look like I shoot up. I'll do it again but I'm gonna warn the mofos first. I'll kindly ask them to try their best to not leave a scar on me. If they do, I'll crumble the complimentary cookies between their butt cracks and make them sit on it all day. lol j/k. I won't make them sit on it for that long. 4. Check your settings. You could have outlook setup to connect to mail server. Do the workstatoins connect to a domain or a workgroup? We connect our workstations to an Exchange Server which is part of our "DOMAIN". When the exchange server is down, outlook, pops up a window requesting for: user name, pw & domain. Check your mail setup options. What does it read? I'm assuming the workgroup post office is a workstation in which the mail server resides in, correct? Where does the e-mail server client reside in? 5. That's all that I hear about Sunshine. Sunshine, if we ever get to do a two way, we'd have to dirt dive until we get it right or until I feel comfortable with it, deal? What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  6. Someone always ends up falling for the other. Then, it ends bitterly. I learned the key thing is not to hang out with them before or after the deed. Don't let 'em sleep over and vice versa. And keep phone conversations to a minimum. I know this sounds impossible cuz we're all human but that's my recipe for a successful long term fuck buddy relationship. 7. I wouldn't say it's beautiful but it's definitely a mug. I was sportin' a scalptop for a while but I couldn't stand the remarks of resembling a buddhist monk any longer. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  8. Easier said than done my friend. I finally got it out. It wasn't easy. I had to open up the case and then opening up the casing of the drive itself. I had to remove some springs and some more screws and a solenoid. The bastard still didn't come out. Then, I got lucky. I powered up the drive with the casing off and drive exposed and then I pushed it out. I probably voided the warranty but fuck it. Tape is out and drive is reassembled. I'm RMA'ing this fucker. I'm just telling those incompetent non-english speaking offshore Helpdesk bastards at HP that the 3 LED lights are still flashing and it won't allow me to insert tapes. Let those mofos deal with it! 9. External SuperDLT not DLT. DLTs are 40gb uncompressed and 80gb compressed. SDLTs are 220gb uncompressed and 320gb compressed. They're similar dimensions wise. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  10. This morning I inserted a blank tape in this drive. I walked away for a few seconds and came back and the tape ejected itself. I was inserting 10 other tapes at that time and I thought I forgot to push the tape in. Well, I pushed it back in and then all 3 LED lights were flashing for the past 3 hours. I tried ejecting the tape. I tried shutting it down and then powering it back up again, nothing. I even tried holding down the eject button for a few seconds. My last resort will have to be opening up that sucker and taking the tape out myself. Let me know if you might have any other alternatives. Thanks. 11. It's cool dude. That's the one bad thing about reading posts. You don't know the person and assume the wrong tonation and attitude. I'm indirectly saying the same thing you are. "Let's just move on." And thanks for the concern and advice.
  12. Wasn't a jumpmaster training you and monitoring you on swoops? Did you ask him what his opinion was? First, I would strongly suggest you pay for some canopy coaching before doing this. It hurts the pocket but it keeps you alive and keeps you in the air. I'm not recommending you do this at all but I'll share with you what I trained on from experts. When I took the Flight 1 camp with Scott Miller and Heath Richardson, we practiced doing approaches on 1/4 brakes first. We didn't do this without practicing up high first. So at about 4,000 - 2000 feet, we flew in 1/4 brakes, held it for few secs, then we flared to our sweet spot and then finished the flare. We did this at least 7 or 8 times up high. Then, we progressed to a 1/2 brake approach. On that day, the winds were gusting 19mph and we were getting some turbulent air too. The 1/4 braked approach was fine. The 1/2 brake approach kicked my butt! The last 15-20 feet my flare didn't have shit to it, I got darted to the ground. Just before the flare I was getting knocked around, catching a nasty rotor too. If my flare had not been on point, I would have smacked the ground hard! I didn't get hurt but my landing was not standup and my pride kissed the ground. Therefore, I wouldn't encourage you to fly in windy day on 3/4 brakes unless you get proper coaching and training from a certified canopy coach/instructor. I'm not an expert and correct me if I'm wrong but on a windy day and on deep brakes, your canopy has already lost its forward speed and sinks a lot faster. If you don't know where your sweet spot is and don't get the right coaching for the timing of your flare from deep brakes, then you'll probably flare too late or not enough and I'm sure you know what would happen to you afterwards. Take your time progressing, you have your whole life ahead of you. You can read all the books, watch all the videos and get all advice up the ying yang. Video and books will leave out so much information. You can't squeeze in great canopy coaching advice and tips in a 1hr video or 1,000 page book. For myself, I benefitted from taking a shit load of canopy flight instruction. Canopy coaching will brief your drill jump and debrief your drill jump for about an hour a piece. What's more, they'll catch your landings on video too. Just my $0.50! Be safe and blue skies! p.s. don't take what others have to say to heart. Listen to the advice not the tonation. If no one gave a shit, they wouldn't warn you about apparent dangers. Regardless of how your past attitude was to others, no one wants to see you get hurt. 13. Thanks dude. Now let's get back on the topic. What do you have to contribute to this post in reference to canopy control or swooping besides pointing out grammatical errors? Post was edited to add smileys so you can see I'm just being a smart ass. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  14. Thanks Bro. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  15. No, there I've said it. Lemme splain' lucy. d/w leg to base leg to final leg I use my toggles. Double fronts approach@130-100 feet: toggles all the way up, toggles still in hand, two fingers in each front riser dive loops - holding both down for a few secs, 50-60 feet, slowly letting up on the front risers. 15-20, two stage flare with toggles. I hope this is clear enough. Blue Skies! What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  16. Come one now after all this talk about slowly progressing and you think I'm toggle hooking? I'm a more sensible person than that. I stayed alive in this sport 200 jumps later not by luck my friend. I'm a very careful and anal person. Thanks for the concern though. I'm only doing double fronts straight in. When I can dial it in lower, to get a nice swoop out of it, probably 200-300 more jumps then, I can start doing other maneuvers. And that will be another post my friend. Blue Skies and thanks all! 17. reply to payback462: you gonna die boy! p.s. great post daless. i hope others get the message. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  18. Thanks Skymonkey, ManBird and Chrisgr. I really don't want to downsize yet until I get 1,000 jumps out of this canopy. I have yet to discover what I can milk out of this bad boy. For now my double fronts straight in approach are doing very well. However, now my accuracy is out the window. Kinda like learning how to chew gum and walk. I am dialing it down slowly. I start my approach and slowly let up the toggles by 50feet or so. And on no wind days, I haul ass man. I grass skate across the ground for about 15 feet or so. Nice little 5 second rush. Thank you all for the vote of confidence in executing this basic high speed landing. I'm still a tad bit scared about letting up the fronts lower than 50 feet but eventually I will get there. I smell a challenge here folks. Give me 2 years and let's play for beer or we can play the loser has to do an RW skydive wearing a pink G-String only. 19. After speaking with a few swoopers and instructors today, I got a lot of feedback. Some negative and some positive. I decided to give it a shot today. I did about 5 practice double front riser dives on my first hop and pop. I slowly let up my toggles after pulling them for 5 seconds. Then, as I built up some forward speed, I went into 1/4 brakes to plane out. As I got down to my final leg, the moment of truth had arrived. At about 100 feet, I held those suckers for a few seconds. Man, closer to the ground, you really see how much forward speed you can build up. Well, it freaked me out. At about 60 feet, I popped my fingers out of the front riser dive loops (my hands and other free fingers were still holding onto the toggles) and then I planed out right away by doing that, my forward speed slowed down tremendously. My flare was normal as ever, slow and soft. I then, realized that I could have held them down longer and slowly let up on the front risers and prepare to flare. It's not so bad afterall. Sure gave me a good scare though. I'm gonna be smoother in letting them up next time around. I spoke to Heath Richardson after I landed. He advised that I should always use smooth movements when letting up on the front risers or to get the wings leveled again. Thanks for the great tips Billvon. I'll definitely use those them in my progression. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  20. Thanks Spizzzarko. Now I don't feel like such a dork for my slow progression. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  21. Well actually, I was planning on adjusting my pattern legs so that by 600 feet I'd be at my final leg. If traffic permits of course. I would never do this if there's traffic around. 99.99% of the time when I'm doing hop & pops, the whole sky is mine. I usually don't do practice canopy maneuvers if I jump from full altitude. I refuse to do that with other canopies in the air, that's just me being anal and too careful. You obviously don't know Superkat. I'm strong like bull. Seriously, when I'm doing hop and pops and my canopy is open at 4,000 feet, I do right and left 360 flat turns at half brakes, 2 practice two stage flares, hold down both front risers for 10 seconds, two 180 left and right front riser turns and a practice stall with toggle wraps and one with rear risers before 2,000 feet and still have enough umpfh to flare. It's quite a workout but I can do 5 of those hop & pop drills a day. Too bad this workout doesn't help my gut any. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  22. Yeah okay tough guy, easy for you to say. Why don't you go back in time when you had 50 jumps and see if you'd feel the same way. Man, that is so true. I can't afford to spend money on canopy coaching any more. I think I'm pretty capable of learning on my own now with expert advices from other people, like you mentioned previously. I mean spending all that money was worth it but my pockets have holes now. Time for me to start using what I've learned to use. I'll stick to doing the slow turtle paced method and just gradually dial things down within a couple of hundred jumps. It's time I leave the bird's nest and start flying on my own. And yes, I will always consult others before performing a new maneuver. For now, it's straight in double front riser approaches from 600 feet. Then, I'll slowly dial it down in baby steps. Thanks for the support Grega. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  23. Yes, I am aware of that. It's just that I have to do this in baby steps. All my 200 and some odd jumps have been straight in approaches with no toggle input for the last 10 seconds. This will obviously take some time for me to dial it down. And I will take my sweet time because I've witnessed too many low turn injuries. Thanks that's definitely dialing it down in baby steps. Scott suggested the same exact thing because a lot of times Heath is just too busy with Monkey Claw coaching and what not. Now that's some deal. If I'm lucky and can probably get some freebies from Heath too. I'll let him know I'm strapped for cash right now. Maybe that sad pathetic story will open his heart. I've got an idea. I'll tell heath that I plan on doing double front riser approaches on my next jump and other maneuvers for every preceeding jump. Then, he'll spill out free coaching for me and by the time he realizes he's been giving me free information, I'd be swooping the pond already and beating him in swoop meets. Damm, I'm good. Seriously, I'll definitely try in seeking pointers and advice from other swoopers at the DZ too. Thanks for all your help everyone. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
  24. 100-200 feet is scary dude. I come from the school of the 10 second rule. Provided, there are no obstacles, you leave the toggles alone for the last 10seconds or 100 feet of flight, until it's time to flare. I just heard it straight from the horses mouth. Scottie told me to not try this on my own as a landing approach and to seek coaching from Heath first. So until I can afford more canopy coaching, I can only imagine I'm landing like this from above 2000 feet. I would really like to attempt to do this on my own but I hate the idea of dying in a hospital bed. So I'll just wait till I have the $$$$ to take more coaching. However, a big part of me inside feels confident enough to do this. And confident enough to know I'll be okay afterwards but I have to listen to the principal. 25. That's exactly what I plan on doing. I want to start off at 600. I will watch my alti and notice when I'm "in the corner". Then, I will, how you put it, dial it down a bit, in baby steps of course. I'm very anal and very very very careful so there's no rush for me to expedite my learning process or downsize my canopy. I plan on staying in this sport till I turn to dust. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
