What exactly is a PC in tow in BASE jumping? I always new it in skydiving terms as a total malfunction where the main container never opens resulting in (hopefully) a reserve ride.

This thread has a good picture of what I'm refering to. Clicky If you look at the picture you see that when you close the pin flap you will end up with some of the bridle between the pin flap (the part that wraps under with the stiffener in it) and the top flap. There's no way around it. Tom A. mentioned (if I recall correctly) that's why he liked the containers where the pin flap doesn't get tucked under because you can bring the bridle out the center and not pinch it between the pin flap and the top flap. Wow, this seems really hard to describe for some reason.

Ok, so do we get to hear the details to these incidents (or see some video)? Did anyone get hurt?

Actually getting a tailgate installed or would tape work ok? Not possible because the Sabre will be attached to my paragliding harness. I use that harness because I need the wheels to land on the ground. There's no way to use my BASE rig for this. No, just my Fox. Maybe in the future I'll try d-bagging my PG but they just don't open that well and I'd prefer not to have a reserve ride under a round. UGH!

Hee, hee... That would be pretty damn funny!

I could be wrong but I think he's been out of town and somehow not been able to get to a computer.
-
I always hoped I could get a sub 1000 number just so I could fit it on a California license plate (BASEXXX). At this rate it doesn't look like that'll happen.
-
What happened? Was it caused by the use of a slider? Lastly, did you use some tape or something to act as a tailgate to prevent a line-over or did you just risk it?
-
I've already got my "E" then. Oh wait I flew into that hillside with a paraglider, damn! Does that still count?

I don’t have my rig in front of me but I think it’s impossible to bring it out the center and NOT tuck the bridle with the pin flap on a Vertex. If you don’t tuck the bridle with the pin flap that means the bridle has to be on the outside of the flap. If that’s the case you can’t get the pins in. I don’t know how to explain that very well. I’ll try to go home and play around with it and take some pictures.

Uh oh, here we go again.

It's paragliding for speed junkies. I do a lot of paragliding myself and have always complained about how slow our wings fly. Now this looks like fun. Maybe I'll try my Sabre 107 off our little training hill we have at our local flying site. Do Sabre's have a decent enough glide ratio to ground launch?
-
I'm curious how you actually launch something with a wing loading between 1.2-1.5. To ground launch you have to get the wing flying first. If you have a wing loaded at 1.5 I'm sure the stall speed of the thing is in the 20's (mph that is). How do you get it flying? Do you just need a good upslope breeze to get the right airspeed but have a slow enough ground speed to run that fast? I'd love to see some video of a launch.

Towing? Do you mean getting towed up on the tandem and then jumping out instead of ground launching from a hill? Or do you mean something different?

More altitude won't really be an option this time of year. Not enough (or good enough) thermals to get much higher unless I get really lucky.

I’m going to be trying several static line type jumps from a tandem paraglider (again). I’ve done this before using my vented Fox 225 both with and without a slider (used tailgate when jumped without slider). The goal of mine is to jump my Sabre 107 this way. I’d like to be able to slowly downsize canopies step by step rather than killing myself going from a Fox 225 to a Sabre 107. I’m going to borrow canopies from people starting with a 190 then a 170 then 150 and so on until I feel comfortable jumping the 107. The question I have is this. What should I do about a slider? Should I use the sail slider the canopy has on it or should I take it off and use some tape as a tailgate? Or should I get a mesh slider made for each canopy? Getting a mesh slider made for every different size would get expensive. I plan on doing these jumps from an altitude of around 1000’ AGL and I would have a round hand deploy type paragliding reserve (although I don’t trust those types of reserves much). I know this isn't the smartest idea but it's something I want to do and I am just trying to find out the safest way of doing it.

I could guess that it's not good because your container would be open and nothing would be in tension (still slack in the bridle). I've always heard a premature container opening is bad! I don't know but just a thought.

The second guy has much better form than the first.

Wasn't there a 2 minute (or less) PJ done at the beginning of Continuum II? Not a tandem but still...

We PM'd and I said it was cool to post my question and name. Oh well...It was MEEEE! Thanks anyway Tom.

I've got a Vertex which has a wrap around closer and I tired it this way at Bridge Day this last year. I brought the bridle out the middle, to the top then bottom (stowed). I've only done it that way for one jump but it worked even when I went head down and then did a flip.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Check out this video of a PCA (thanks DexterBase) I did with a MESH slider on a vented Fox 225. Clicky

I don't know much but if I was even a little worried about my SL anchor breaking off I would find something else to use. I agree with Tom, tubular webbing at a climbing store is cheap. You can pick some up (here where I live) for $0.25/ft.
