Ranch Skydiving Club Ends-Prices Go WAY UP!!
freeflydrew replied to freeflydrew's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Sorry if there was any confusion here... My post was meant to stress that the Ranch Parachute Club had ended, not that there would be no more pizza or kegs, and not that the Ranch isn't a great place... it was about the actual club part of the dropzone One of the things that makes the Ranch so great was the way it was established, the history it has, and that everyone there is a member of the club. We all paid an annual membership fee, we all received a club directory so we could make plans with our jump buddies while we're away from the dz, we all got free pizza and beer on saturdays, and we all enjoyed discounted jump tickets... shit, we even got membership cards! We all play our part to make The Ranch an incredibly unique dropzone... the "club" aspect of it was a huge part, and it's really disappointing to know that that part has been dissolved. That's what I was thinking when I originally posted. -drew -

Ranch Skydiving Club Ends-Prices Go WAY UP!!
freeflydrew replied to freeflydrew's topic in Events & Places to Jump
This just in... The Ranch Parachute club has ended. (I hear it was Billy's decision) Prices go from $16.50 to $20 per jump $18 for a hop and pop up to 8,500 ft. (used to be $14) no more club membership, pizza or kegs on saturdays... LAME! -
the thing that pops into my mind is exporting back to the camera and connecting the camera to the stand alone dvd recorder (one like a vcr) and recording like that... the imac g5 doesn't have s-video out, so that really limits what you can do. Apple definitely seperates the consumer line from the prosumer line. You are also limited to video mirroring, rather than extending the desktop, if you connect an external monitor (unless you hack the firmware). So you could make a project in imovie, and export it to dvd via idvd, or save it as a disc image from idvd and burn it with the disk utility, or go straight from the camera through idvd to a dvd... Bottom line... and I apologize if I'm wrong or misinterpreting the question, is that you can't connect the vcr type of dvd recorder to an imac without purchasing a media converter (firewire to rca). -drew

I'll take a stab at it that this is the biggest one so far... but I'm not really 100% sure File from Atmonauti website

Amy and Yoko definitely, also Emanuelle (

it's the encoding of the dvd that takes a while, not the burning... once you've burned one dvd, and it asks you if you want to make another, that second disc, and each one after that , burns very quick... Maybe Toast with very basic menu will go faster that idvd, but I'm not sure... -drew

From Apple's site: I'm going to test the disk image idea and edit the post once i have a conclusion... OK, I made a project in iDVD, I saved it as a disk image, and then i burned it using roxio toast... the only thing is that i don't have a nonsuperdrive mac with an external dvd burner to test it out with, so i did it with my superdrive equipped 12" powerbook... but I think it'll work. Good call Murrays -drew

iDVD will only work with the internal superdrive on the mac... If you buy an external drive, you're limited to the Roxio software or some other 3rd party app...

Compact Flash readers on Powerbook G4
freeflydrew replied to rredman's topic in Photography and Video
i've never had a problem using a compact flash card reader... check that your software is updated from software update. Are you using iphoto to import or some third party software? You should have no problem with any usb CF reader, and you can also use a pcmcia card that allow you to insert the CF into the side of the Powerbook... much faster download speeds. -drew -
What horrible, horrible news. Kenny is such a wonderful person, Skydive Arizona and the skydiving community are at such a loss. -drew

you can use a program called dvdbackup to "rip" the dvd... it'll remove the region code. I never try to put them back onto dvd, but there are plenty of programs that will make them into quicktime files (ffmpeg or handbrake)

this is a case of not enough information about the problem/setup... Have you switched wires, do you have a router, if so what rand model is it, has the setup ever worked correctly, if you remove the switch from the equation can the computer connect, if you remove the working computer from the equation, does it work, have you restarted, are your tcp/ip setting set for dhcp and not static... A switch is just a hub that doesn't necessarily route a packet to the router if the target device is one the same side of the switch as the source of the packet... A router is what manage/maintains multiple computers within a local area network. (Basic explanation)

We have 3... the 15 GB goes on the train to the city every day, the mini goes in the car with the itrip sending the signal to the stereo, and the shuffle for when we're walking around town. We have the airport express connected to the stereo so we can listen to the music with a little base. I use both the 15 and the mini as backup devices... The shuffle is really, really nice... No need for the display. There's so many more reasons to get the ipod that not to get the ipod.

I agree it's very funny...
-
check add remove programs and see which version is listed there...
-
use the airport admin utility (in the utilities folder) and switch the "channel" setting from automatic to a different number. (try 1 first)... See if the phone still interferes.

From Apple knowledge base article 107249... (This article describes journaling on server 10.2, but Apple incorporated journaling into 10.3 for regular client machines too)
