I would fly one again only if it had just been inspected by PD. My first canopy was a Sabre 170. I had a lot of really hard openings despite any changes to packing technique. I sent it to PD and it turns out that the slider was almost 120 square inches too small, the lines were way out of tolerance, and the d-bag attachmanet point and the line attachment points needed to be reinforced. It became a water training rig canopy since the estimate to fix it was almost $600. I picked up a Sabre 2 170 for $800 and had it relined- still jump that one to date.

Sadly I do not. He was our HQ 1SG (I was in C CO) and I lived next door to him a while over there. Heck, I only have two pictures of me there. Picture a 6'2 240 or so Pacific Islander with dark dark brown skin a chiseled jawline, and a chinese or japanese symbol tattooed on the side of his neck. He was a gym rat and huge and ripped. I hope this rings a bell. Matt

God this is terrible news. I'd just returned with Pablo from Iraq. BSBD Brother

Thanks Dave.

2900 blahblah what do you know in 8 years and that many jumps? What do any of us know? We're all stupid. I just got back from Iraq 30 days ago and upsized though I feel I could do anything in the world since people aren't trying to shoot or blow me up 24/7 anymore. But we're both stupid.... or some b/s like that. I hope you're doing well Frost. Matt

Zzzzzz .... max loading on PDF canopy and reserve?

Wow, it seriously sounds like you need a 'jerk' in your dropzone life. I was told I would die when I started with a Sabre 2 170 and I weighed 210 out the door. Holy Sh*T you're way more than I weighed then. 500 some jumps later, I jump a little smaller canopy and still have hundreds of jumps on my main and almost a dozen on my current reserve through demo jumps. I load my PR126 pretty high (1.67), especially for somebody with a little over 500 jumps. But, the fact that I've flown my reserve as a main for many jumps, in many wind factors and scenarios makes me a better canopy pilot on my reserve and main. You seriously make a fundamental flaw: You decide what to buy on a little guidance and how much you can afford. I always say demo what you want, then pick what you feel is best for you. I can tell from reading already that the container you choose is not the best for you. I assume you will blow this off and think of me as some tool or bitch since I don't agree with you, but, I have been around a lot of injury or death in my limited time in the sport and I simply am hoping to persuade more needless injury. I am 100% sure that 99.99999999% of the people that read this will agree with me: Pull your head out of your fu*king a*s and listen to the 'losers' that don't want to watch you die. Seriously. It's no problem to jump a canopy a little smaller first, then go smaller after a few hundred jumps on that canopy. It's the safest way. -
Elisha, Sent you a PM. Matt

Had my cloudflyer 500+ jumps and it is almost good as new. Got mine from Sonic and Donna at The Ranch. Matt

They may not have been tied in the correct place. I did 2 clear and pulls observing the brake lines while flying around and was getting some wicked bucking while doing riser turns and the brake lines were taught, no bow at all in full flight. I stalled the canopy when I was finding where I could shut it down, up high of course, and it caught me off guard since it was not where I was expecting it to occur. I let them out a couple inches, then did a hop n pop, then let them out again, and did another hop n pop, then figured out where I finally wanted them to be after that and then proceeded to jump as normal. The same thing happened with the Sabre2 170 I used to jump, but I did not purchase that new, and figured the lines would have shrunk 2-3 inches for the roughly 300 jumps on the canopy, but they were more of 5-6 and had the lower steering attachments replaced because the previous owner snipped the line instead of fingertrapping it so there was nothing to let out. Easy fixes, but takes a few minutes. Who knows how long a newer jumper would take to notice, or an experienced jumper to notice the lines taught on the other's canopy? Matt edit: spelling, & add Microline 825 for both Sabre2's

I noticed the same when I got my Sabre2 135 back from a reline. The lines were tight on the tail in full flight and don't even think of trying a riser turn. I let mine out until it did not buck and the lines bowed a lot. Of course I did this in steps so I didn't go to flare and fall down because I'd let them out too much at once. As well, I practiced flaring, breaked turns, riser dives, etc after each change on a hop and pop or clear and pull and came up with what I liked. Never had a problem with it after doing it. Any other questions and your closest rigger or canopy coach can help you out. Matt Edit: Sorry, to answer your actual question if the tail is being deflected while in full flight you are losing an amount of forward speed that you use to cover ground while heading to the landing area and use to help create lift when you flare the toggles. Talk to the riggers around there or canopy coaches. To me, it sounds like they can be let out some but then again I'm not there to see it fly.

And the way the RSL is set up to pull the reserve cable through the two rings making that kink takes a good bit of force. Matt

I don't exactly consider my military static line jumps that fun after a whopping 520 skydives where I haven't fallen down or hit the ground in such a manner. Not to mention wearing gear that weighs almost twice as much and strapped a lot tighter. Carbon fiber helmets are no k-pot either. Matt

Frost is right about the spectacular splash and all of the low turns. Luckily the water didn't break his ass. LifeFlights to Westchester or Poughkeepsie are pretty damn expensive these days. If he'd missed the pond, he probably wouldn't have needed that or a timely EMS response. Matt
