Harris is actually a reasonably good choice as far as I can see. How did that happen? Only because she did not go through the established method of choosing. She is an accidental nominee. Biden probably would have lived long enough to stumble through the 4 years. As a semi-competent figurehead for at least some of them though. This is all part of the price you pay for having term limited leadership in a posistion of such great power and the struggle to attain that power. But it is probably worth it because longer term leaders get so determined to hold on that they become more and more desperate and corrupt as time goes on.
