  1. The link here is to a long but well written piece that does a good job of putting forward most of the explanations for the rejection of Harris and the Ds mostly agreeing with what our more right wing posters have been expressing. Along with many of the reasons why Trump is going to be so bad for the nation. Some of you might find it interesting enough to read. https://samharris.substack.com/p/the-reckoning
  2. Isn't this a tactic of Trump's? Never admit a mistake.
  3. Isn't there something about the House controlling the purse strings? Not even Trump can make Congress members vote in a way that will ensure their defeat in 2026.
  4. Those are all laudable goals if he is sincere in pursuing them. There are other people available who could also take the Justice Department in that direction but have better records and abilities. It isn't necessary to make Gaetz the AG except to make a statement. And to get him out of congress. Most likely he will be a sacrificial lamb and never become AG. Which is better than he deserves.
  5. Matt Gaetz is not and has never been a senator.
  6. I would commit to a paid subscription. But I suspect that model would cause the membership base to shrink even more. The original mission of the site seems to be no longer valid as we all know. SC is not what brought me here originally. Skydiving, incidents, camera, and the rigging forums were and they are nearly dead. I only have a limited amount of energy to devote to swimming upstream, but if a plan emerges I will participate.
  7. I have learned to be a little subtle at it. Occasionally I slip up.
  8. I don't know where you live, but where I live most people made appointments and lined up en masse to get mNRA vaccines as soon as they could and were very glad of it. You probably look down your nose at most people and call them sheep. Most people are actually a lot smarter than you give them credit for.
  9. I agree Wendy. But on the other hand it is telling that saying a person resembles a high ranking POTUS adviser is universally considered to be an attack rather than a compliment.
  10. Eugenics will be next. After the homeless are rounded up they can be sterilized. At least they won't be pressured to get vaccinated. Let the bells of freedom ring out!
  11. Sigh....it's function is what makes it a vaccine. You have called it a "treatment" which it clearly is not. If it is not a vaccine in your mind and it is not a treatment in anyone's mind , what pray tell should it be called?
  12. Have you ever heard of influenza vaccine? Is it a vaccine?
  13. I'm not sure why you think an mRNA vaccine is not a vaccine but there is a lot of evidence that it functions as one. I know you will carry your personal anger and resentment over the extreme pressure put on you and others to make the sacrifice of taking it for the common good despite your beliefs to the grave with you. I'm not even going to try to have that argument again. But the fact is that it is an effective measure that attenuated the epidemic and allowed society to get close to normalcy far faster and with far less death than otherwise. Without it we would be in a far worse place right now.
  14. Yeah, old people don't count. I know.
  15. Have you seen what is happening with the rates of measles in children of the anti-vaxx community since 2020?
  16. Lucky you. My mother died from it. My wife and I only had moderate cases, more than sniffles but less than the worst flu I've ever had. My wife was reassigned from her regular job to help in an overflowing ICU unit where she nursed more than a few anti-vaxxers more than one of whom changed their minds about the vaccine too late. Most but not all of them survived but some lost spouses or other family members. They were largely from the southern Manitoba bible belt and had leaders who told them not to get vaccinated and that ivermectin would save them if needed. Covid has killed far more people than the opiate epidemic did in the last few years. It currently is responsible for 1.2% of deaths last week in the USA up from 1.1% the week before. That is with high levels of vaccination keeping the rate down. The money spent on healthcare for covid victims could probably buy a few tent city concentration camps for the homeless opiate addicts who are one of the few groups you seem to empathize with.
  17. It's hard to know what anyone truly believes. But I know for sure that "leaders" of the "new right" have been known to promote belief in all of those "ideas" and several more "alternative truths". The news media reports these things because they are things that conservative politicians have said. They did not make it up no matter what you think people you know believe. You only know what YOU believe. This is the definition of reality. Mama always said, "stupid is as stupid does".
  18. It's simple a viral troll designed to outrage. Just small mean spirited nonsense. I would bet that no one here has actually seen or heard about it first hand just read online that "people are posting". It is the equivalent of the people complaining that they are being asked not to say "Merry Christmas". There are real problems to worry about. This is nothing but a distracting meme.
  19. There are a few people in the world even more powerful than rich Americans. How many troops are under his command?
  20. Can they stay in the enlisted ranks?
  21. We don't print the world's reserve currency. We have to be a little more careful about that. Per capita legal immigration to Canada far outstrips that of the USA. But we have the obvious advantage of not having the third world at our doorstep and opening the door without knocking so we have a lot less unauthorized entries. Desperate people seeking entry is a problem in all the relatively wealthy western nations. It was the key reason for Brexit because being an island offers protection. It is a difficult moral dilemma.
  22. After reading what I can in a couple hours about "the new right" I will say that the only thing new about it is that it has no real cohesive goals or ideas. It is an alliance of social conservatives, many driven be religious beliefs and libertarians especially the "don't tread on me types" as well as those who feel they have been left behind by the new information/service economy. These groups are actually potential enemies of each other but are united in the belief that social progress is bad and the good old days can be brought back. There is as you probably know, nothing really new about any of it other than the unlikeliness of the coalition it brings together. Strange bedfellows indeed. Almost all of the aims of this movement to stifle and reverse the progress of man are things that I and probably about half of the world disagree with. The individual struggles will carry on with unpredictable results. But I can say this, western liberalism has brought to the people living in it the best lives and the most incredible achievements that the human species has ever seen. The things that you and your family love so much are the products of liberalism and enlightenment. Be careful what you wish for.
