  1. Canada is already cutting back on immigration completely independently of US events. The government here has now basically admitted that it has been accepting more people than can be absorbed by the economy and services. Next year it is almost certain that the conservative party will win the election, possibly with a majority of seats and will cut further.
  2. Google search returns many news articles with that title.. Which one are you referring to?
  3. I’m waiting to see how many pardons are handed out to in January 6th insurrectionists.
  4. I appreciate that you are making an effort to explain. Democrats do not have answers either, that is very true. But they are not led by someone who is basically evil and a con man. So the main thing I can take from you is that you are conservative and believe in conservative policy over what a liberal administration would bring. No matter who is the leader, you don't care, it doesn't matter.
  5. I'm confused, you seem to be defending him and saying that all the bad things he has done are really just inventions of the media. As if "the media" is under the control of some evildoer. I remember first hear about Vance and his book when it first came out. He was interviewed quite extensively on NPR which I listen to a lot. He did indeed have a many interesting viewpoints and things to say. And he clearly showed that he understood the immorality and danger that Trumpism and MAGA represented to him and to the nation. And now he even more clearly has shown how the lure of money and power can corrupt an ambitious person. I sincerely believe that you and many like you have been fooled. The people who worked very closely with Trump nearly all have warned you that they have seen him up close and that he is basically not interested in helping anyone but himself. The only thing you are going to get out of this election result is the joy of sticking it the libs. Enjoy it while it lasts because lighting dumpsters on fire is what comes next. These people can be counted on to continue to attack those they don't like and to try to impose their will but they are not interested in helping drug addicts.
  6. I can offer no real solution to that problem which is just as bad here in Canada. Are you saying that in desperation you support Trump in the hope that he can somehow help this? Do you think that so many resources are going into Ukraine that it is causing rampant drug use and addiction?
  7. I'm expecting a flood of TG refugees and forced birth victims flooding the Canadian border seeking political asylum

And that is what is really the most important thing to you judging by this response. Same old same old. You accuse people like John of not understanding you yet you have no clue what he cares most about. Just like Trump you really have no answers when challenged so you revert to gloating and attempt to change the subject.
  9. Trump is so full of bullshit that he could possibly surprise us all. Now that he no longer has to plot reelection it may turn out that he is not really the red meat conservative that he has been posing as.

Yes, both are true. I'm reasonably sure you are smart enough to understand how those two things are not mutually exclusive. I'm less sure why you are bothering to say them as there is no real point. It almost seems like pissing into the wind. (which of course is something only men know about)
  11. Sounds a lot like concentration camps. Like all of Trump's "plans" it is nothing but a off the cuff idea that will not happen. It is just another empty promise designed to appeal to those who don't think it all the way through. Simple answers for complex problems. "We don't like the homeless, so let's ban homelessness". The other half of the promise is redirecting the money going to the defense industry to pay for Ukraine's weapons to support the poorest people in the nation. If you still believe that this will happen after thinking about it for more than a few seconds your level of naivety is exceptional. You have become another follower of a populist, not the visionary you are hoping for. And yes, Trump is very clearly a misogynist and has a known history of forcing himself on women. The media did not choose those juries.

They can just look for the made in China label on their smart phone while they are looking it up.
  13. States rights take on a whole new meaning depending which side of the federal government your state is on. It will now be Newsome and Ferguson in the posistion Abbott and DeSantis have occupied. The largest economic drivers of the USA are in the coastal blue states.

I'm trying hard to understand but even discounting the man's behavior and record I still can't wrap my head around how people can just fall for the simplistic and bound to fail ideas presented as policy. What I do understand is the lack of any anything much beyond carrying on with the status quo presented by the Harris campaign.
  15. Oh yes, he has the greatest lies. Best lies ever, sucker.
  16. Social media is a huge driver of this. That is the reason why true authoritarian nations tightly control it and all media. And where that goes from here is very unpredictable. Most likely it will end up being reigned in everywhere eventually. Probably only after a major crisis like a war or large scale social unrest.

    Trump

It is small, but significant. Just the fact that he won the popular vote is going to be something that we will hear over and over. The liberal side made many references to Biden winning more votes than any other POTUS in history. That is no longer true. The Electoral College can not be blamed this time. America has gone over to the dark side for now. We can only hope that the pendulum has reached its apex and the stark reality of what is going to happen next will cause a change in direction in the future.

Considering that the Rs in the House can't agree on much or pass anything without D votes you may find yourself and your extreme religious agenda frustrated by reality.
  19. Steve Bannon in 2015 said that if the D party tried to win on identity politics it would lose. Because the coalition of identities that are outside of the dominant one is too small. He was right. The only reason Biden won in 2020 was not a backlash against Trump, it was the upheaval of covid.
  20. I don't think it is that simple. Most of the Trumpy people I know (mostly Canadian) feel secure in their employment. But this vague fear that the "elites" are trying to change society by importing muslims is something I am hearing over and over again. Of course when you ask them why these elites would want to do this or they quickly change the subject and go off on a tangent about pizza place basement sacrifices and such. They just are in no mood accept a reality that doesn't make them and their people victims of so many things that make them feel out of control.
  21. Sure, I have accepted that a small majority or at the very least a very large minority is following the path of fear, and even that some of the fear is not unreasonable. But at the same time I would ask you to accept that society is very evenly divided and unless you are willing to accept the end of democracy you will also need to move out of the way one day. Populism is not a new thing and it has a long history of only lasting for a limited time.
  22. People over 45 but are the only age demographic who favoured Trump. Younger ages broke for Harris. The over 65 crowd just slightly went Trump. All major non white groups went for Harris more than Trump but whites were stronger for him. Of course the voting population is predominantly white and over 45 so no one can win without a considerable amount of votes from them. No group is completely on one side only. I believe that concern over immigration is still the predominant reason Trump was able to win both the nomination and the general. It is the same as in Europe. People are feeling invaded by outsiders and they don't like and fear the cultural change. Trump is deeply flawed and everyone knows it but many people hope he will do something to stop the change and they are sure that Harris and company won't.
  23. White people over 45 were by far the biggest percentage performing group of Trump voters. People under that age preferred Harris. The non-white vote did indeed shift slightly to the right.
  24. No need to be so dark. These things ebb and flow. The people of the nation did not really change. There will be policy shifts that you and I find discouraging and there will be strong resistance as well. Giving up is not an option nor is it necessary. The constitution may take a bruising but it will still stand despite the temporary setback.
  25. Just so you know, there are people here who count you in that group for some fundamentals.
