9 year old thread revival... proof that nothing ever goes away once it is on the inter-webby thing. Well what have I learned in that time. Well plenty, I have progressed from Senior to Master, Packed in the region of a couple of hundred Racers, had a bunch of saves on them too. A number of them have had the bag stay shut on one side, most of them haven't. No-one has complained about the openings nor were there any negative feedback about it from the jumpers perspective. None of them that I am aware of were high speed totals. It works. I get that it works. I don't think that I would go down that road myself, however, I am not a manufacturer or designer, I don't have the experience of trying out lots of different ideas, nor the maths to back it up or refute it. There are often things out there that I find odd in the world of rigging and are not how I would choose to do it probably, but if there are real problems I have noticed they tend to become apparent soon enough and dont as a rule take to long to show. Long story short I take care to ensure the knot is seated below the flap and isnt proud through the hole and I find Racers an easy pack. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I rather tend to agree. I always find it interesting that people refuse to tack soft links due to needles but we are happy to run a needle through webbing to build the rig I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

congrats! also Wings came up with a nifty solution to the problem of people downsizing beyond the scope of the rigs ideal sizing. They have an extra pocket on the BOC for the free-fly pud so that if its loose under the side flap its still tight in the boc pocket as its against the bottom main flap and the dbag keeps the tension good I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

*** I like the cypres washer and cord because it is approved for everything. Otherwise I would need cypres washers and cord in addition to the vigil specific stuff. -Michael well as they said in 2011.... After reading this thread a few days ago, yesterday I saw for he very first time a Vigil washer when inspecting a rig coming through the loft for the first time. They are real! Now where is Sasquatch...... Did the M2 come with a disc that Had CYPRES stamped on it or just a disc that looked like the cypres disc? I installed one recently but don't recall seeing cypres on it, perhaps I should have turned it over? I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

depending on where you are looking you may find that a Certificate D is enough to film tandems. Unlikely to be at one of the coastal locations due to the requirement commonly for Display Licenses. Look at apf.asn.au and research Display Licenses. That said there are a number of Tandem Mills that are not restricted in that manner due to being on normal airfields good luck I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I have heard Jim Crouch (Couch?) at both APF conference and PIA last year give a great talk on this very subject. Well worth chasing it up I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

This is why when I teach either students or Packers (APF ratings) I insist that any checks be accompanied by a finger touching the item they are checking. I forget which older instructor taught me this but it is very necessary. We see what we expect to see but by touching at the same time it draws our focused attention to things. I recently got a Strongarm which is a copy of the Sailrite. Took it to a boogie to do basic rigging on and it got a work out. Not a bad investment if you need something portable. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

I have been using musicians attenuating custom moulded silicon earplugs for the last 4-5 years. They ar about 30dB reduction I think. Put them in before the plane starts and take them out after I land. Can hold a normal conversation without any trouble but takes the edge off the noise. I try and remember to use them on the bike too as 2" straight-through a have a bit of noise to them I highly recommend them if you want to keep your hearing I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Fair comments If I may point out that the APF 'wholesale' student membership which for the larger Multi-DZ owners results in a good mark up from the rate they pay to the 'retail' rate charged to the tandem customer. The exams are under review and have been updated over recent times and appear to be still undergoing improvements. I am not sure when you did your Packer B of course but I am aware that fxc's were still present in my area about 18 months ago and may still be as well as in other areas so still relevant to the exam. Also it is good to know where we have come from as that can help people understand how we got to where we are. Certainly not the cheapest federation but by no means the most expensive either :) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Something to remember here folks with regards to the costs... If you held a certificate for another job... say in the mining industry or off-shore drilling and you move to another country and require said certificates I expect in most cases you need to pay some money to go and do the whole induction training etc again as each country has diffent rules and requirements. Also when you consider at the APF are regarded highly for their systems and processes you need to remember that such systems cost money and whilst the USPA or other larger administration bodies have tens of thousands of people to fund their costs the APF has probably less than three thousand people... The maths is easy from there as to why the costs may be a bit steeper than in other countries 2 cents worth if you care to pick it up I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

Hey Sam I met you at the factory and at Z-hills last week.. Have you been getting on ok with the blue loan rig or is it proving to be difficult as well? Many people want to have the smallest rig possible for the possible canopies that they jump. When you consider your build you may need compromise and accept that you have two passions and continue to jump a slightly larger rig. At the end of the day a rig that is 3-4 cm longer and 3-4 cm wider is not really that much bigger is it? Good luck with it all and interested to hear how you go on. Your rig when it is rebuilt I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
